Something Old, Something New, Something Borrow, Something Blue
Something Old, Something New, Something Borrow, Something Blue
Karen
I twisted Natasha’s hair up into a crown that wrapped around her head. I smiled at her in the mirror.
“It’s about time you married this boy,” I teased her.
She laughed. “It’s not my damn fault they have kept me pregnant! Blame them!”
I rubbed my hand over her belly. I knew she had mere weeks before she started showing. Again.
“How kind of them to wait long enough for you to get married.”
She grinned. “You know they all want at least 1 kid with me.”
I rolled my eyes playfully. “Who all has kids with you now?”
She lifted her hand and started putting her fingers up as she listed names. “Falcon, Raul, Lee, Sebastian and Timothy.”
“Hmmm. Do you want to know who fathered this baby?”
She turned on the bench to face me. “Did the results come in?” she asked excitedly.
I shrugged, making her pout.
“Come on, Mom. It can be my wedding present.”
I laughed as I walked over to my purse to get the envelope. I held it out to her and she immediately snatched it out of my hands as I went back to finishing her hair before placing the veil in her hair. She smiled before getting up to go to the door.
“OSPREY!” she screamed.
“Mom?”
She held the envelope out. “Can you take this to your fathers, please?”
He frowned at her. “Okay.”
He took it from her and she shut the door. She walked over to the full-length mirror and turned slowly in a circle. I watched as the beautiful white lace swirled around her before settling down gracefully over her body.
“You look like a princess, baby.”
She smiled at me. “I feel like a princess. Falcon chose such a wonderful gown.”
The door was flung open and Jamie rushed over to her with the results clutched in his hands. “Is this for real?”
She nodded. “Are you happy?” she asked shyly.
He beamed at her. “Happy? No, I’m not.” He picked her up and spun her in a circle. “I’M FUCKING ECSTATIC! WE’RE HAVING A BABY!” he shouted.
She giggled before kissing him. “Put me down so I can finish getting ready to marry your best friend.”
He set her down but kept her tight in his arms. “I fucking love you, baby.”
“I love you, too.”
He kissed her again before skipping out of the room. I grinned at her.
“So, tell me how you don’t have multiple children with the same one?”
“Every time I was ovulating, I only slept with the ones that I didn’t have babies with.”
I raised an eyebrow at her. “And they agreed?”
She nodded. “They’ve gotten very good at sharing.”
“I’m happy for you, baby. Your father would be so proud of you,” I tell her as I cup her cheek. “Oh my god. I almost forgot! Stay here!”
I ran downstairs to Carl. “Did you remember to bring it?”
He nodded and handed me the small box. I rushed back up to Tasha who was waiting for me curiously. I opened the box and lifted the small pendant out of it. She reached out to run her fingers over it.
“What is it?”
“Hold it up to your eye.”
She lifted it up to her eye before uttering a small sob. “Mom?”
I smiled at her and took her hand. “I wish he was here to meet everyone and see just what a wonderful woman you have grown into. We wanted you to have a memory of them with your family. There’s also a photo album.”
She pulled me into her arms. “Thank you.”
I pulled back to kiss her cheek. “How are you feeling?” I asked as I put the pendant around her neck, so that it hung over her heart.
She played with it. “Where did you get this?”
“Falcon had one of the sleuth members photoshop you and your family with your father and Hawk. Timothy then sent the photo to a company that put it into the pendant. There was another one ordered of just Tom but it didn’t arrive in time. Now, anytime you miss him, you can look into it and see him.”
She wiped the tear that fell off her face. “This is my something new.”
I grinned. “The other girls have your something blue, something borrowed and something old. Which do you want first?”
“Something borrowed?”
Tara walked over and winked before kneeling in front of her. I lifted Tasha’s dress up so she could wrap a small vine around her thigh.
“The forest wanted you to know that it approved of your marriage. It only asks that when the wedding is over, you return its brother home.”
She gulped and nodded.
“What’s next?”
“Something blue and then old?”
Mona wrapped a blue satin sash around her waist and let it rest on the dress. She hugged Tasha.
“Your something blue, sis.”
Valerie rolled her eyes. “Since you are already wearing something old, I have this for you and I want you to know how hard it was to find.”
Tasha studied the small coin in her hand. “What is it?”
Valerie beamed. “A sixpence. Most people forget about it. It goes in your left shoe for good luck.”
I helped balance her as Valerie took her shoe off to slip the coin into it. She put it back on and we all stepped back to look her over again. I brushed her hair back before smiling and holding my hand out.
“Come on, sweetheart. Let’s go put him out of his misery. He’s waited for this for years.”
She took my hand and let me lead her out of the room. I took her down to the back porch where Tony, Raul, Falcon, Lee, Sebastian and Jamie stood waiting for her. I took my place beside Jamie while Tara stood next to Raul. Valerie took Lee’s arm and Mona lightly put her hand on Sebastian’s arm. Falcon took Tony’s hand and Carl patted Tasha’s hand when she put it through the crook of his arm. He smiled at her.
“So, your son is not happy that we told him he couldn’t walk down the aisle with Elena and Scarlett.”
She shook her head, grinning. “He’ll be okay.”
The music started as the lights dimmed. Tasha took a deep breath. I patted her shoulder.
“Let’s go get you married, sweetie.”
