Chapter 80 The Truth Beneath the Alpha’s Throne
Chapter 80 The Truth Beneath the Alpha’s Throne
Kate wasted no time.
With sharp, efficient commands, she ordered her guards to help her carry Shax. The black wolf's massive body shuddered violently before shrinking, his bones crunching back into human form. Shax lay panting on the ground, naked and drenched in sweat, as the soldiers draped a thick cloak over his broad shoulders.
"Look at you, Babe," Kate's voice softened, but with a sharp edge. She knelt beside Shax, touching his face with her cold fingers. "That bitch really took advantage of you. She kept you in a weakened state just so she could take advantage of you. Truly cunning."
Shax winced, his head still throbbing from the remnants of the transformation and the impact of overlapping memories. "How... how did you know?"
"I met a woman named Rachel," Kate replied, helping Shax to his feet.
"Rachel?" Shax winced. "Ah, her."
"Yeah, she told me everything. How that bitch... held you captive and ran you from town to town. She treated you like a lapdog with no memory."
Kate let out a long sigh, looking relieved. "But don't worry, honey. You can proudly return to the pack now. That little bitch's been caught."
Shax's world seemed to stop spinning for a moment. "Michelle... caught?"
Kate frowned, her eyes narrowing at Shax. "Michelle? Since when do you call her by her name?"
Shax flinched.
He quickly changed the subject, trying to stand up straight, though his legs were still shaking badly. Kate tried to support him, but he avoided her embrace. Instead, he grabbed the arm of one of the men nearby to help him walk.
Kate fell silent, her lips pressed together in a thin, bitter line. She followed Shax as he limped toward the black SUV waiting at the edge of the forest road.
In the car, speeding toward Black Fang territory, a suffocating silence enveloped them. Shax leaned his head against the window, staring at the trees rushing past. Behind his stern face, his mind was raging.
He smiled bitterly, a dark grin hidden beneath. Michelle truly was an incredibly disgusting woman. She orchestrated everything so meticulously. She'd made everyone believe Skai was Sylas's son when in fact, Skai was his own flesh and blood.
'How dare she claim my child as another man's?' Shax thought, his fingers gripping the car seat until the leather squeaked. 'How badly does she want Sylas? That she's willing to give our son to him?'
However, a major question struck his logic. If Michelle truly wanted Skai to be Sylas's sole heir for power, why did she bother running away? Why did she bring Skai to suffer on the streets if her goal was the throne?
Shax sank deeper and deeper. The more he thought, the more things didn't make sense. One thing he was certain of: if Sylas found out that Skai wasn't his biological child, Michelle would die instantly, and so would Skai.
Sylas wouldn't let an Omega deceive him in such a despicable way.
Shax couldn't let Michelle die just like that. Not before he found out the reason behind all this madness. He also wanted to punish Michelle himself. He wanted to see her kneel and beg forgiveness for all the years she'd spent in hatred.
"What about Skai?" Shax asked suddenly, his voice hoarse after a long silence.
Kate turned, looking at him as if he were asking the obvious. "Of course he's fine. He's the Alpha heir, finally home after being kidnapped by that crazy woman for so long. Alpha will make sure he's well cared for."
"What about you? Are you feeling better?"
Shax turned his head back to the window, ignoring Kate's concern. Kate bit her lower lip, her expression twisted in sadness and hurt, but Shax didn't care.
He only hoped he'd get to the mansion in time. He had to prevent the truth about Skai's biological father from getting out yet. Sylas couldn't know the truth. Not yet.

Michelle's POV
My body hit the cold marble floor with a painful thud. The two warriors threw me off my feet, causing me to fall prostrate right in front of a pair of very familiar boots.
I curled up, shaking violently. The pain in my head from the impact made my world spin, but one sound managed to penetrate the fog of pain.
The sound of Skai crying.
His cry was shrill, high-pitched, ripping my heart to shreds. It wasn't a cry of hunger; it was a cry of fear. My attention was immediately diverted, my eyes wildly searching for the source of the voice, but my vision was blocked by a large shadow looming over me.
"Don't move, bitch," Gamma Anton hissed.
Without warning, Anton pressed the tips of his sharp claws directly into the skin of my neck. I could feel the burning pain as the tips of his nails slightly broke the surface. I was forced to look up, staring at Sylas, who sat in his large chair with the grace of a tyrant.
"Depends on your answer, maid," Sylas's voice was so calm, and that was what made it terrifying. "Your head will either stay where it is... or roll across this floor."
I swallowed hard, feeling the pressure of Anton's claws deepen in my throat. I couldn't breathe properly, but my eyes remained fixed on Sylas with every ounce of courage I had left.
Sylas leaned forward, staring at me as if I were an interesting insect to be dissected. "Tell me... what did you do to my son while you ran away, that he would cry so nonstop like that?"
My breath hitched. Your son? I wanted to laugh hysterically in front of him, but death was on my neck.
Skai was crying because he missed me. After all, he smelled this monster.
But Skai's true identity mustn't be revealed yet.
"He... he just misses his mother," I whispered with all my remaining strength.
"Really?" Sylas smiled lopsidedly, a smile that didn't reach his dark eyes. "Then... you just need to bring his mother to him, right?"
Rage surged through me like fire.
I lifted my head and glared at him, every bit of hatred burning in my chest.
“You bastard,” I growled hoarsely. “You already… killed his mother.”
