Chapter 181

Chapter 181
Sienna's pov

"Right now?"

My mind went blank for a moment. I had so much more to say.

From the moment we met until now, it had only been half an hour. I had originally planned to leave right after handing over the documents.

But the person receiving the documents was my biological mother. Our reunion came so suddenly.

"Yes, right now. Leave immediately. I've been hiding in this small town for years, but it's no longer safe here. You need to leave quickly and make sure no one knows about our relationship. This is to protect both me and you."

I completely believed what Sabrina said. She must have had a compelling reason to hide here. No mother would want to be separated from her child.

"Then... can you at least tell me a little bit about why you're doing this? I..."

Maybe it was the bond between mother and daughter, but at this moment, I couldn't bear to leave. I wanted to spend more time with Sabrina.

Sabrina gave a helpless smile and didn't explain. "Go now. You'll understand the reasons later."

I glanced around the room. The suite was quite large, with two bedrooms. Was there someone else living here?

"Is it just you here?"

I asked casually, but Sabrina didn't respond. She pulled me out of the bedroom. We ran into another woman.

"Who's this?"

The woman seemed to have a good relationship with Sabrina, smiling as she looked me over.

"You'll find out later."

Sabrina didn't explain, pulling me past the woman. I couldn't help but look back. The woman had a gentle yet stern expression. I guessed she was Sabrina's trusted assistant at the research base.

Sabrina escorted me to the village entrance and urged me to get in the car. "Alright, don't worry about me. We'll meet again."

She insisted I leave, so I got in the car. Through the window, I could only see Sabrina's back. Even though she knew I was her daughter she hadn't seen in years, she showed no reluctance when she turned away. The better we appeared to be connected, the more danger it would bring me. That's what Sabrina believed.

But what could possibly make her stay in this place for ten years? Was it just for the research?

"Ready to go?" The driver fiddled with the steering wheel. "If we don't leave soon, it'll be dark. The mountain road takes an hour to drive, and it's hard to navigate in the dark."

I turned back and said calmly, "Let's go. The sooner we get home, the better."

I hoped Milo could explain everything to me. But it got dark faster than I expected. By the time the car finally reached the flat road, it was completely dark. The road was lit by yellow lights, and there were far fewer vehicles than during the day. The driver sped up.

I leaned against the window, dozing off, and seemed to have a dream. Until a loud crash woke me up completely.

"What happened?"

The car shook violently, as if it had collided with something.

"We're in trouble..."

The driver's voice was heavy. I looked up and saw the car was surrounded. A group of people with guns and knives.

"Who are they? Are they here for me?"

Otherwise, I couldn't think of any reason to target a driver.

"Stay in the car and see what they do."

The windows were closed, making it hard for them to do anything to us.

I nodded and remembered Milo's advice: if necessary, I could fight. Otherwise, all my combat training would be wasted.

One of the men put down his gun and walked to the driver's window, knocking on the glass. The window wasn't rolled down, so we couldn't hear what he was saying. But they had guns. They wouldn't just wait around.

Seeing no response from us, one of them grew impatient and aimed his gun at the window.

"Roll down the window and see what they want," I said.

In this situation, we had no choice but to open the window. The driver knew something was wrong and opened a small gap in the window.

"Where's the stuff?" the man demanded.

I stayed silent. They must be after the document bag Milo gave me.

"What stuff?" The driver was confused. "We don't have anything."

"Speak!" The man barked. These people were sure we had what they wanted.

"What exactly do you want? You have to tell me!" I heard the sound of a trigger about to be pulled. It seemed I had to hand over something.

I knocked on the window. "I have what you want. Put the guns down, and I'll get out and give it to you."

If I guessed right, handing over the stuff wouldn't save our lives.

"Hand it over, and I'll put the gun down."

Unfortunately, the car had collided, so even if I stayed, the driver couldn't leave alone. I didn't know if the driver could handle these people.

"Protect yourself," the driver suddenly warned me seriously and got out of the car and started fighting them.

There weren't many of them, no more than ten. Even without guns, how could one person fight ten? Soon, sporadic gunshots rang out, and the driver fell to the ground, shot.

That wasn't enough. Countless bullets flew, and even though the car windows were closed, I could smell blood. Then... the window was knocked on again.

If I got out, I couldn't fight them alone. Though there was a slim chance, if the window was shattered, I wouldn't have room to resist in the small space inside the car. So, I chose to get out.

Immediately, a gun was pointed at my temple.

"Where's the stuff?" the man demanded again.

I turned around. "I'll get it."

As I opened the car door, I suddenly grabbed the man's wrist, quickly snatching the gun. Whether I could leave alive depended on this. After half a year of combat training, it couldn't be for nothing.

Gunshots kept ringing out. The area was too remote for anyone to come to my rescue. If possible, I didn't want to shoot. I didn't want my hands stained with blood. But avoiding it would only lead to tragedy. Their bullets seemed endless.

"What exactly do you want?" I asked, desperate.

"You don't need to know," the man replied coldly.

The gun was aimed at me again. I aimed my gun at him. He might be a fearless killer, but I was afraid of dying. I hadn't avenged myself, hadn't reunited with Sabrina completely. But what could I do now?

At that moment, a car stopped on the other side of the road, and people rushed over. There were many of them. I didn't think they were here to help me. Until I heard a familiar male voice.

"Sienna ! Get back in the car!" It was Julian. How did he get here?

But I had no time to think. The car was right behind me. A bullet grazed my forehead, and I opened the car door and got inside. The world finally went quiet.
