Chapter 133
Sienna's pov
Sometimes I felt like Zach was just here to freeload.
He joked around with me all day, and I never saw him working seriously.
"So, you were eavesdropping last night?" I stood up, rubbing my back. "Or did we disturb your work?"
Zach's yawn froze mid‑air, like he couldn’t believe I’d said that.
"Sienna ... did something upset you last night?"
I responded with a blank expression, "Didn't you say we were loud last night? Sorry if we disturbed your work."
Zach was just trying to test me with his jokes.
To deal with someone as shameless as him, you just had to stoop to his level.
Martha had already heated up breakfast.
I planned to eat and then take a nap.
"Sienna , what did you say to Luna? She agreed pretty quickly." Zach seemed worried. "She won't really use me as a shield, will she?"
I was speechless. "You know that already. Using you to provoke Alexander is perfect."
I couldn't understand what Zach was thinking.
He knew getting close to Luna would drag him into her feud with Alexander, and now that she agreed, he was worried.
People were always greedy.
In big families, romantic affairs were often just for show. Zach should be used to it by now.
I didn't believe he would easily fall for Luna.
"Well, if I can win her heart... that would be even better." Zach said with a hint of danger, and I quickly sensed it.
"I don't care what you're thinking, but you better not hurt her."
These people were terrifying.
If it was just fake feelings, that's one thing. But the fear was that they might even calculate their own true feelings.
Like Alexander with Luna, he probably didn't expect to actually fall in love with her.
"Sienna , don't worry about that. Besides, you should thank me for giving you the chance to connect with Luna. It's not just me acting; you're working harder at it."
I drank a bowl of soup and left the table, ignoring Zach's provocation. "I'm going to take a nap."
"Good morning, sweet dreams."
His flippant tone inexplicably sent a chill down my spine.
I quickly ran back to my bedroom, leaning against the door and gasping for breath.
Sometimes I think Zach is even more reckless and crazy.
Harrison was cold on the outside, with strong methods and an intimidating presence. Zach was the opposite, but his underlying ruthlessness was no less than Harrison 's.
In other words, Zach was more reckless and luckier.
Soon, it was the day of the birthday party.
I thought Harrison would go with me to the Blackwood Villa, but I got word that he would go directly from the Blackwood Group, and I would go with Zach.
"It's Grandpa's birthday party. Dad will be back, and he's probably bringing Kaia."
Zach chuckled knowingly. "Harrison plans to stir things up at the party."
"What do you mean? I don't get it."
Harrison 's father, Everett, and Kaia… what's the connection?
"You don't know? Kaia's aunt, Rachel Wright, was Everett's fiancée, now Mrs. Vane."
The information hit me so hard that I couldn't process it.
"What... what?"
Luna did mention the feud between the families, but I didn't expect Kaia to be involved!
I was stunned and asked, "So Kaia is related to Julian?"
Exactly!
"You just found out?" Zach sighed and explained, "Julian wanted to use you against Harrison before. Now he's using Kaia against the Vane family. It's all a game to him."
I asked again, "What's the deal with his dad coming back? Everyone at the Blackwood Group knows about Harrison and Kaia."
Zach didn't elaborate. "The feud between the families is not something you need to get involved in. Sienna , I'm serious. Staying out of it is for your own good. I don't want your relationship with Harrison to be exploited anymore."
I couldn't hide the sarcasm. "Oh, so everything you guys do is for my own good, huh?"
It was always the same story.
For my own good, but in the end, I was the one who suffered.
"But the feud has nothing to do with you."
That was their excuse for keeping me in the dark.
I shook my head. "Whether it really has nothing to do with me is no longer up to us. As long as I'm married to Harrison , everything about the Blackwood family will inevitably involve me. There's no avoiding it."
Maybe every step I take is already part of someone's grand plan.
At the old mansion, there were luxury cars parked everywhere.
This birthday party seemed especially grand; even the usually closed-off Blackwood family estate was open to outsiders today.
I kept my distance from Zach to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.
Many people in Regal City didn't know Zach, and they didn't greet him, but they looked at me with surprise.
I distanced myself further from him.
"Go find Luna. I'll be fine on my own."
It was better than enduring those strange looks.
"No way. Do you know how many people are watching you today? I have to stay by your side."
Zach was unusually serious, not joking.
"Then it's even stranger. If Harrison didn't plan to attend the party with me, why bring me? If he wanted you to watch me, why involve Luna? She's busy abroad and came back just for me."
It was ridiculous.
"Grandpa's birthday party, you have to be there. Reconnecting you with Luna is a good thing, isn't it? Otherwise, if I stayed by your side alone, wouldn't it cause more misunderstandings?"
I grew even angrier. "You could have just told me straight. Now, you're treating me like a fool?"
Zach sneered. "If we told you directly, would you still attend the birthday party?"
I was speechless.
If I had known Kaia would be there, I wouldn't have come.
Even if Arthur treated me well, I wouldn't have come.
"As for Luna, I am interested in her. But more importantly, she can influence Alexander and protect you."
Zach seemed to drop the pretense, shrugging. "I'll be honest with you. Tonight's birthday party will be chaotic. You not only have to show up, but you also have to bring Elena into the spotlight and deal a heavy blow to the Vane family. Getting revenge on Elena, isn't that what you've always wanted? Tonight is the chance. If you don't want it, you can leave now. I won't stop you like Harrison would."
This was Zach's real face.
But what did I do wrong?
I knew nothing, yet they arranged everything for me, and even asking for the truth made me seem ungrateful.
And now, I had no choice but to comply.
