Chapter 94

Chapter 94
WRITER'S POV
Vera had spent countless nights lost in thought, worrying about her son. She didn’t know how to make up for the years they’d spent apart, but one thing she was sure of, she wanted him to feel loved, deeply and truly.
He had accepted her back into his life with that first tight hug, but it still wasn’t easy for him to start calling her “Mummy.”
The first time he did, following Timothy’s lead, something fluttered inside her, like butterflies bursting into flight in her stomach. It was a moment she would never forget.
Since then, she had been sharing his room, wanting to stay as close to him as possible. But the first night he told her he wanted to sleep in Timothy’s room instead was the same night she finally spent the night with Jack again. It was like Jack had become an afterthought in her new life as a mother.
“We’ll have to rearrange the room for the boys if he’s going to stay with Timothy,” Jack said cheerfully when she told him.
“Thank you, Jack. For everything. You made all of this happen,” she said, melting into his warm, secure arms.
“I promise you this kind of happiness will never leave your beautiful face again,” he whispered, locking eyes with her as he gently slid a ring onto her finger. Then he kissed the corner of her mouth.
His hands moved slowly, starting to undress her. She let go completely, trusting him.
He was going to make her his again. She didn’t know what made this time feel so different from the rest, but she felt it.
Maybe it was because she had just fallen in love with him all over again.
Maybe it was because her biggest dream, having her son with her, was finally a reality, and he was under the same roof.
Maybe it was the ring on her finger, a symbol of Jack’s love and commitment.
Maybe it was the way his arms made her feel strong and safe.
Or maybe… it was all of those things.
Naked now, she climbed onto the bed and waited for him. She heard the soft rustle of his clothes, the zip of his pants. Then the mattress dipped as he joined her.
Jack curled beside her, one arm draped over her waist, kissing her gently, first her ear, then her neck, then her shoulder.
His hand found her thigh, patting her gently before sliding between her legs. When he started to stroke her softly, she gasped.
“Oh, Jack…” her voice was breathy, and it drove him wild.
He slowly turned her to lie face down, then ran his hands over her hips, caressing her gently. His fingers explored her with delicate care while his mouth left kisses along her spine.
She tried to turn over, to touch him too, but he held her in place, letting his touch speak for him.
Then he gently lifted her hips, parted her thighs, and slowly eased into her. Vera’s hands clenched the pillow as a deep moan escaped her lips.
Jack had always been passionate, but this time was different. He was careful, respectful, like he was worshipping every part of her.
She felt like she had left Earth, floating into something higher. Until Jack groaned and collapsed against her, breathless. That’s when she remembered, this is what being truly loved feels like.
She didn’t move. She didn’t want to. She loved the weight of his body on hers.
She opened her mouth, knowing what he would eventually ask, and what she was ready to offer.
“I’ll talk to Harry. I’ll ask him to drop the charges against Natalie. I’ve already forgiven her… and my mother, too. I love you, and I want to be your last bride. I’m willing to do anything you want.”
Jack rolled to the side and pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly.
His phone rang. They both heard it, but neither of them moved. Neither wanted to break the moment.
Right then, Vera knew, whatever the future held, this closeness made everything else worth it.
Jack woke first and quietly got out of bed. He didn’t want to disturb Vera. He padded into the bathroom, took a quick shower, then came out with a towel around his waist, another towel in hand as he dried his hair.
He glanced at the time, already planning the day. He wanted Vera to feel even happier. He wanted her and Malone to grow closer. Maybe he could take them to the farmhouse, let them decide where else to visit. Today would be for building memories as a family.
When he tapped his phone screen, the brightness made him squint. His expression changed as he noticed multiple missed calls and a few text messages. He picked up the phone, unlocked it with his face, and scanned the screen.
“Good morning, baby,” Vera said softly behind him, making him smile as he turned to look at her.
“How was your night, sweetheart?” he asked, leaning down to kiss her forehead.
She wrapped her legs around his waist playfully, fingers tugging at his towel. “Best night ever. I’ve never felt so complete.”
Then she noticed his tense expression. “Is something wrong? You seem distracted by your phone.”
“I… I missed a lot of calls last night,” he said, his eyes glued to the screen. “There’s a message and a file sent from a number I don’t know…”
He trailed off, his expression shifting from curiosity to disbelief.
“What? What is it?” Vera asked, kneeling on the bed, placing an elbow on his shoulder to balance as she peered at the screen.
Her mouth dropped open. “What the hell?! Who would send something like this? You don’t believe it, do you?”
“I don’t know… Someone wouldn’t send this kind of information if they weren’t sure. Maybe I should call and find out.”
“Jack! Are you hearing yourself right now?” Vera’s voice grew louder. “We were there! We watched Monica die. We went to her funeral. Her grave was covered with flowers. Her own father, a priest, prayed for her soul!”
She stared at him, frustrated. “And now, out of nowhere, you believe some random message saying she’s alive and was seen at an international airport? Jack, people look alike. This could be someone trying to mess with your head. Or blackmail. Or worse!”
He didn’t answer.
“Unless you want me to believe her ghost is haunting the city,” she added bitterly. “Or maybe this is a reincarnation?”
She didn’t care if she sounded crazy. Whoever sent that message had a goal, to stir up Jack’s feelings, mess with his emotions, or drag him into something dangerous.
Why couldn’t he see how ridiculous it all sounded?
“This is insane.”
But Jack still looked uncertain, eyes glued to the message, his thoughts spinning fast.
