Chapter 52 I Never Planned to Be Ryan’s Aunt

A lesson, just a lesson?

Hearing Marigold's words, Julie was extremely disappointed. She covered her face and said, "Mom, I want to go upstairs and rest."

"Okay."

Seeing her bad mood, Marigold didn't dare say much and quickly had a servant come over to help Julie upstairs.

After the servant left and the door closed, Julie shed her aggrieved expression, and her face instantly became somewhat twisted.

She picked up her phone and dialed the same number from last time, lowering her voice. "I'm certain that Cordelia is Phoenix who came back from Empire of Upheaval. I want you to spread the news right now."

The man on the other end of the phone laughed. "Ms. Fox, is this information accurate? If people find out I'm spreading fake news, I'll be the one in trouble."

"True or false, someone will verify it. Just spread the news, and I'll naturally reward you once it's done."

Hearing Julie's words, the man on the other end finally relented. "Since we've worked together so many times, of course I trust you. Ms. Fox, just wait. I'll spread the news right away."

After hanging up, Julie's twisted expression slowly faded.

"Cordelia, don't think I have no way to deal with you. This time I want your life!"

At eight o'clock in the evening, Cordelia returned to Starlight Heights. She stopped at her door.

A paper bag hung on the doorknob—light yellow, no logo, no signature.

Cordelia looked around. There was no one in the hallway.

She took the paper bag inside and opened it on the table.

Inside was a matte black flat box with good texture. When opened, the lining was black velvet.

On the velvet lay a jar of ointment. The bottle had no trademark, only a line of very small handwritten numbers.

Cordelia recognized this as a globally limited handmade ointment specifically for fading old scar tissue. Annual production didn't exceed two hundred bottles, not sold publicly, only circulated internally through specific medical circles.

She had heard about this ointment when she was at Empire of Upheaval. At that time, an arms dealer's mistress spent three hundred thousand dollars and still had to rely on connections to get one bottle.

A small note was pressed in the box: "Take good care of your injury."

The handwriting was cold and sharp, identical to the one on the care plan in her drawer.

Cordelia stood holding the note for a while, her expression complex.

She finally put the box in a cabinet, placing it alongside that care plan and the bag of medicine.

As she closed the cabinet, Cordelia murmured, "Sick."

But her tone was low, without any hint of cursing.

When Raymond opened his door again, he saw that the medicine bag on the opposite doorknob had disappeared.

The corner of his mouth lifted slightly as he closed the door.

Early the next morning, when Cordelia opened her door to go out, she saw a bag of trash in front of the opposite door. She found it strange—when did someone move in across from her?

Just as she was looking around, the opposite door suddenly opened, and Raymond appeared before her.

Cordelia asked in surprise, "Why are you here?"

Raymond smiled slightly and raised his hand in greeting. "Morning. This is also my place. I've been busy at the hospital recently, so I had no choice but to stay there. Now that I'm done, I've moved back."

The reason was perfectly flawless.

But Cordelia didn't think so. Seeing Raymond calmly press the elevator button, Cordelia couldn't hold back anymore and stretched her arm out directly, blocking Raymond's path.

Raymond was startled. He looked up, his handsome eyebrows gently knitting together in confusion. "Ms. Fox, what are you doing?"

Cordelia's scrutinizing gaze swept back and forth across his face. She chuckled and said, "Are you trying to pursue me?"

"You!"

Raymond hadn't expected Cordelia to be so direct.

His face turned slightly red, and his voice even stuttered. "What do you mean?"

Cordelia withdrew her arm and said slowly, "Just what it sounds like. But if you do like me, it won't work, because we're not suitable for each other."

As she spoke, the elevator door opened. Cordelia slipped inside. Raymond, stunned in place, smiled.

He had never seen a woman as direct as Cordelia, and moreover, Cordelia had directly rejected him.

Although his feelings were currently just budding, Raymond didn't plan to kill them off.

Raymond lifted his long legs and stepped into the elevator in one stride. The elevator door slowly closed, leaving only him and Cordelia in the small space.

Raymond couldn't help but turn around, his gaze falling on Cordelia. "Why aren't we suitable?"

Cordelia looked up, her eyes like a pool of clear water, falling directly on Raymond. "You don't really like me, do you?"

Cordelia crossed her arms, half-smiling. "You're actually serious?"

With the conversation having reached this point, Raymond didn't plan to hide it anymore. A hint of appreciation flashed in his eyes. "If I am serious, would you agree?"

"No!"

Raymond wasn't at all surprised by Cordelia's answer. He knew Cordelia would reject him so ruthlessly and decisively.

But today he wanted an answer.

"Why not? Can't you forget Ryan?"

Raymond's words made Cordelia laugh. She raised an eyebrow and glanced at Raymond. To be fair, Raymond was much better-looking than Ryan.

Long legs, 6'3" tall, broad shoulders and narrow waist—judging from the bulging muscles under his shirt, even if he stripped naked, his body would definitely be sexy.

But Cordelia didn't want to get involved with anyone from the Perez family again, at least not now.

"I said I wouldn't accept Ryan. It seems Mr. Perez has forgotten what I said last time."

Seeing Cordelia say this, Raymond frowned. "If that's the case, then why would you reject me?"

"So you're actually serious."

Originally, Cordelia wasn't quite sure about Raymond's intentions and just wanted to test him, but she didn't expect to extract such shocking news.

"Yes, I'm serious."

Raymond took a few more steps forward, his tall body completely enveloping Cordelia.

"You don't have a boyfriend, and I don't have a girlfriend. We're both single. Why can't we try?"

Seeing him so serious, Cordelia's expression also became somewhat solemn. "Although you're better-looking than Ryan, I currently have no intention of having any relationship with anyone from the Perez family. Also, I don't plan to become Ryan's aunt for now."

As she finished speaking, the elevator stopped.

Cordelia stepped out of the elevator and waved at Raymond. "But thanks for the medicine anyway. And next time, don't go to so much trouble."

By the time Raymond slowly walked out of the elevator, Cordelia had already gone far. Looking at Cordelia's retreating figure, he chuckled softly. Cordelia really was ruthless.
