Chapter 43 My Disappearance Has Something to Do with Julie
Cordelia looked up in confusion, her eyes sweeping over him before landing on his hands holding the lunch box.
His fingers were well-defined with slender bones, and he wore a white coat—clearly a doctor who saves lives, yet here he was at her bedside, acting like a caregiver bringing food and water. Something seemed off about this.
But Cordelia couldn't quite put her finger on what was wrong. She threw off the covers and got out of bed. "Thanks for last night. I'll treat you to dinner some other time."
Her action left Raymond frozen in place. His grip on the lunch box tightened as he asked, "What are you doing?"
After putting on her shoes, Cordelia stood up and looked at him. "I'm checking out, Dr. Perez. Can't you tell?"
Raymond blurted out without thinking, "But you haven't recovered yet."
Cordelia looked at him strangely. "I really appreciate your help last night, but we're not that close, are we?"
Cordelia's words left Raymond stunned. Damn it, he knew he shouldn't have been so nice!
But thinking about the injury on Cordelia's arm, Raymond's heart softened again.
Seeing Raymond standing there frozen, Cordelia felt a bit sorry for him. Could it be that he'd never been rejected by a woman before?
What a shame—if only he weren't from the Perez family.
With this thought, Cordelia kindly patted his shoulder. "But I really do appreciate your help. Thanks again, and I'll treat you to dinner later."
After saying this, Cordelia turned and left the hospital room.
Raymond was left alone in the room, looking at the lunch box in his hands with mixed feelings. He shook his head slightly, knowing Cordelia was heartless. He let out a cold laugh, tossed down the lunch box, and walked out of the room.
After leaving the hospital, Cordelia touched her stomach, knowing this problem of hers wouldn't be cured quickly. After thinking it over, she turned around and went to a pharmacy to buy a box of painkillers before heading back to The Fox Villa.
As soon as Cordelia walked into the courtyard, she noticed something was wrong.
The servants in the courtyard were rushing back and forth, busy with something. The moment they saw Cordelia, their eyes darted away, and they didn't dare linger, turning and running off.
Cordelia found this strange. She looked around, and just as she turned her head, she saw Willie.
When Willie saw her, he hesitated for a moment and was about to turn away when Cordelia called out, "Stop."
Willie slowly raised his head with a flattering smile. "Ms. Fox, hello. You're back?"
Cordelia gave a light response and walked up to him, looking him over. "Why are you hiding? What happened?"
At Cordelia's question, sweat began to form on Willie's forehead.
Everyone knew Cordelia had a terrible temper and could kick someone to death when angry. The former head of security, Dorian, was a living example.
If Dorian's chest injury had been any deeper, he would have died. Thinking about this, how could Willie not be scared?
He forced an unnatural smile. "Mrs. Fox and Mr. Fox told us to clear out a room for Julie."
"Then clear it out."
Cordelia replied casually. Julie must have been so scared by the snake that night that she wouldn't want to stay in her own bedroom anymore.
If they needed to change rooms, so be it—there were plenty of empty rooms in the house anyway.
Thinking this, Cordelia suddenly realized something was wrong. Were they clearing out her bedroom for Julie?
With this thought, she looked at Willie, who was so scared his legs went weak. He waved his hands frantically. "It wasn't my idea, really not my idea. It was Mrs. Fox and Mr. Fox."
Before he could finish, Cordelia turned and walked away.
Seeing her leave, Willie breathed a sigh of relief, but when he saw Cordelia heading toward the living room, his heart rose to his throat again. It was going to be another chaotic day.
When Cordelia reached the first-floor living room, she discovered that her belongings had already been carelessly thrown into the stairwell, and several servants were moving the bed from her room.
"Stop!"
The people working hadn't expected Cordelia to return at this time. Hearing her voice, they looked at her nervously.
Cordelia walked upstairs and pointed at the servants. "You all, put those things down."
A few were scared, but one brave soul replied, "Mrs. Fox told us to clear out this bedroom and redecorate it for Julie."
"I know, but without my permission, no one is allowed to touch anything in the room. Otherwise..."
Cordelia turned and saw a vase in the hallway. She kicked it hard, and with a loud crash, the vase shattered into pieces on the floor.
Everyone was instantly shocked. They quickly dropped what they were holding and ran down the stairs in panic.
When Jack and Marigold arrived after hearing the news, they saw Cordelia standing at the bedroom door with a huge iron hammer on her shoulder, almost as tall as she was.
Seeing this scene, Jack was shocked beyond words, his voice trembling. "Cordelia, what are you doing? Put that thing down!"
"Why should I put it down? You don't like these things anyway, so I might as well smash them."
As Cordelia spoke, the huge hammer seemed like a toy in her hands. She swung it high and brought it down hard on the half-moved bed. Wood chips flew everywhere as the bed broke into two pieces.
Marigold covered her ears and let out a scream. "What are you all standing around for? Stop her now!"
With Cordelia acting so crazy, who would dare step forward?
Seeing the security guards all standing still, Marigold shouted angrily at Cordelia, "You stop right now! If you keep acting crazy like this, I won't let you get away with it!"
"I'd like to see how you won't let me get away with it."
Cordelia didn't take her threat seriously at all. She swung the hammer onto her shoulder and walked down the stairs step by step.
With a loud crash, the hammer fell and hit the floor hard, scaring Marigold out of her wits. But at this moment, she had no way to deal with Cordelia. Damn Cordelia was a real demon!
Cordelia didn't care what she thought. She sat down on the sofa brazenly, crossed her legs, and said, "I was only gone for one night, and you've made such a big scene. Tell me, what do you want?"
Seeing her arrogant attitude, Jack was so angry his vision darkened. He shouted at Cordelia, "Julie was frightened. She can't possibly move back to her own room. As her sister, what's wrong with giving your bedroom to her!"
Marigold chimed in, "That's right. During the years you were missing, Julie lived in pain and guilt, searching everywhere for you. But what about you? After coming back, you've been targeting her at every turn. How can you face her?"
"I can't face her?"
Hearing this, Cordelia instantly became furious.
She suddenly pulled up her sleeve, exposing the dense scars on her arm. Some were deep, some shallow, showing how much torture Cordelia had endured.
Seeing the injuries on her arm, Marigold screamed and quickly covered her mouth, stepping back in horror. "How did you get these?"
Cordelia said coldly, "This is the torture I suffered in the Empire of Upheaval over the past three years. Want to see more? There's plenty on my body."
More on her body?
Hearing this, a sense of fear rose in Marigold's heart. Could Cordelia have been raped by men out there?
Thinking this, she didn't dare think further. She suppressed her discomfort and looked at Cordelia with an unpleasant expression. "Cordelia, I know you've suffered, but what does this have to do with Julie? Ever since you went missing, she's been worried about you day and night."
"Really?"
Cordelia let out a cold laugh, looking at Marigold with eyes as cold as frost. "What if I told you my disappearance was related to Julie?"
