CHAPTER SIXTEEN—Why so mad, huh?
Freya Rose “Mason, what in the hell are you doing? Where are we going? What's wrong?” I quickly bombarded him with questions, not giving him a chance to answer the first before moving onto the next.
“Freya, shhh, please. My mom's watching us. Just act like everything's normal,” he answered through a gritted smile while he waved at Sadie through the kitchen window.
I smiled at Sadie, and she returned the smile. The suspicious look she had on her face didn't dissipate and she continued to watch us like a hawk as she finished making the coffees. Mason leaned into me and pulled me in for a hug. While in our embrace he began to whisper into my ear, “There's a serious problem back home.”
I could hear the panic in his voice even with him trying to hide it from me. I pulled away from our hug and stared into his worried eyes.
“Well, what are we waiting for? When are we leaving?”
He tried to soften the look on his face, but he was failing miserably.
“You're not coming with me, Freya. It's not safe. I have a plan, don't worry. I just need you to stay here for a few days while I sort this mess out.” He brushed a strand of hair away from my face, then traced his thumb down my cheek and across my jawline. He rested it on my chin, before slowly pulling my face towards his and while staring lovingly into my eyes said, “I love you so much, Fi. I will never let anything happen to you and I'll kill anyone that tries to hurt you. You have my word!” His voice was calm and filled with such feeling, but his words sent a chill down my spine.
I went to speak but he leaned in and pressed his lips softly against mine. I could feel the electricity gradually building up in my blood, setting off little sparks all over my body. Mason placed his hand behind my head and entangled his fingers in my hair. He tugged it gently, making my head tilt back as he intensified the kiss. My heart began to race as my body started to heat up. I raised my hands up to hold Mason's gorgeous face.
“Freya!” He whispered in a panic, as he quickly pulled away from me, grabbed my hands and spun me around so that his back was now towards the house. I looked down at my hands. I had been so lost in our kiss that I hadn't noticed that my hands had ignited. I closed my eyes and began my breathing exercises, taking in deep breaths through my nose and out through my mouth. Within seconds I could feel my heart rate slowing down and the heat within my body began to subside. “Better?” Mason asked with a chuckle while he rubbed his thumbs over my hands.
“Yes much. I'm sorry I couldn't control myself. “It was crazy how much this guy could affect me. Just one kiss turns me into a human flamethrower and I'm not entirely sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing. All I know is that it feels amazing and so natural and that I am totally in love with him. “What's happened back home Mason?” I asked him.
I hated to ruin the mood, but I needed to know what was wrong and why he felt the need to tell me that he would kill anyone that tried to hurt me.
“The council have arrived, and they want to take you away, but I will not let that happen. I have a plan, but for it to work, I need you to stay under the radar, okay?” His voice still calm he continued, “I need to know that you are in a safe place. I will call you as soon as I can, but please promise me that you won't talk to any hunters while I'm gone, we still don't know who we can trust.”
My eyes grew wide as I tried my best to take in all that he was telling me. With everything that's happened in the last year, my head was really messed up.
“Why do they want me, Mason?” I asked bluntly.
He sighed and took my face into his hands.
“You are unique, Freya. Hybrids are very rare. As you know, from such a young age we are raised to hate and hunt vampires and werewolves. So, as you can imagine not many hunters have fallen in love with other supernatural beings and wanted to become one of them,” he said honestly.
I exhaled and looked out into the woods trying to let it all sink in. I furrowed my brow as I looked into Mason's eyes and said firmly, “I'm coming with you!” Mason began to shake his head and as he opened his mouth to protest, I interrupted immediately, “you should know me well enough by now, Mason. Do you really think that I'd let you go back home and face the council alone?” Mason looked shocked as he stepped back. I guessed he wasn't expecting me to be so direct or forceful. I kept the serious look on my face and folded my arms across my chest for added emphasis. “Well, if you did, then you clearly don't know me at all. I have lost too many people in such a short space of time. I will not lose anyone else that I love!” I snapped at him.
I turned away from him as a single tear rolled down my cheek, now was not the time to break down and lose my shit, so I hurriedly wiped that tear away like it hadn't even fallen from my eye and then started to regain my composure. All of a sudden, I felt this extreme warmth building up from behind me, and as I looked out into the distance, all around me began to glow a bright white, with a faint hint of baby pink. A rush of pure love and feeling of being whole, hit me like the burst of heat you feel when you get off of a plane. It was so powerful and all-consuming that it made me lose all train of thought. Strong protective arms wrapped around me like vines encasing a tree, soft yet firm hands slid across my stomach sending wave after wave of electric heat surging through my body. One hand rested on my stomach while the other found its way up and over my breasts, gently brushing them as it continued its journey upwards, finally resting on my cheek. With my breath now very much labored and my heart racing, I could feel myself melting into his touch. He gradually turned me around to face him and the instant our eyes locked, I ascended and burst into brilliant flames, making the whole world faded away. We weren't here or there, we weren't high or low, in or out, the only existence was us, we were one.
Mason pulled me close, our breath and heartbeats in perfect rhythm. We couldn't take our eyes off of each other and our bodies had minds of their own. I could feel my hands moving all over his body, but I wasn't controlling them, well at least I didn't think I was. To be completely honest it was hard for me to think of anything at that moment except for how stunning this man was. He was perfect in every single way. How could I ever let him go? I knew right at that moment that I was completely and utterly in love with him. In classic Mason style, he swept me up and flew me into the air. I had no clue where he was taking me, but I really didn't care. As long as we were together and he was safe here with me, then nothing else mattered.
***
We flew for a little while, maybe about ten minutes or so. It was starting to get dark, and I was sure I saw a few people pointing up at us. Maybe they couldn't see us properly, perhaps they would think we were some sort of falling meteor, or a low shooting star, or even a UFO. Either way, no one is going to believe that they saw two people surrounded by flames flying through the sky, now, were they? We flew up above the people, the houses and the trees until we finally came to a stop at the top of a small mountain. Mason gently lowered me to the ground, then descended and sat down on the flat light-gray rock ledge, that he'd placed us so delicately upon. He stretched his legs out and placed his hands behind him to prop himself up. With a cheeky grin on his face, he raised his eyebrows at me to look behind me. I gradually turned around and gasped at the view that awaited me. We were so high up, that it was like I was standing on top of the world.
There was a small village below us with tiny twinkling lights from the houses, hotels, streetlamps and cars. A beautiful river curved around and embraced the village, like a mother holding her infant. As if keeping it safe from the enormous tree-covered mountains that surrounded it. I descended then walked over towards Mason, he sat up and opened his legs, tapping on the rock floor for me to sit. I sat down and rested my back up against his chest and I watched in wonder at the sky. It was boldly painted with a stunning orange and pink hue as the sun began to slowly set behind the mountains. The bright colors began to fade into darkness and were quickly being replaced by tiny little twinkling stars. The streetlights became brighter, as the light faded away from the night's sky.
“It's so beautiful here, Mason. Where are we?” I asked as I continued to soak up the natural wonders that were spread out before me.
I had never really taken the time to just sit and watch the world. I appreciated the beauty of my hometown Jasper, but I'd never really been anywhere else except to visit my grandparents in Banff, and I didn't really explore much there. But for some reason, this place felt like home. I felt safe, protected and loved. I hadn't felt this relaxed and calm since before my mom…
“It's called Waterton. We are about four hour’s drive south of Banff,” Mason thankfully answered and interrupted my thoughts, much to my relief.
“So, what was it like growing up here?” I didn't see anything wrong with the question, but I felt his body stiffen beneath me. I swivelled my body around so that we were sitting facing each other, looking into his sad green eyes I asked him, “are you okay, babe? Did I say something wrong?”
He leaned forward and stroked my cheek with his thumb, his touch was so loving and gentle.
“No, of course you haven't.” I could still hear the pain in his voice and see the sadness on his face. I got up onto my knees and crawled towards him, he placed his legs back down onto the rock so that I could sit on his lap. I placed one leg either side of his and then sat on his lap. He slid his arms around my waist and interlinked his fingers at the small of my back. “Waterton was a great place to grow up. I loved school and my friends. We would play all day in the woods and by the water. My mom was always so happy, the house always smelled of fresh baking and my dad used to teach me how to ride bikes and play football, we were so close. We were just your average happy family,” he said with a huge smile on his face as he reminisced. His smile soon faded, and the sadness grew across his face once again, like a dark cloud. I furrowed my brow with concern as I waited for him to continue. “When I was seven, I started having these rage fits. It would always be over something silly, and I would go from my usual happy go lucky self to a raging maniac who was smashing up his bedroom within seconds. I couldn't control them, and they just got worse and worse. My mom took me to many different doctors who all agreed I had some form of epilepsy, but my dad knew the truth,” he paused as he felt me lean back against his hands.
I knew he thought I was shocked, but not for the reasons he thought. I was taken aback because the rage fits sounded like the exact same ones I had as a child and what I had been having the last few years. I snapped out of my thoughts when he lowered his head. I placed my hand on his chin and lifted his face. I leaned in and kissed his lips softly letting him know that I wasn't shocked and that he was safe here with me. He sighed as I pulled away from the kiss. I smiled cheekily at him, and he replied with a side grin. He took a deep breath as he prepared himself to tell me the rest of his story.
“These fits were my hunter side getting stronger. It hits earlier than human puberty and it sends your hormones raging. It eventually subsides and calms down, but it's different for everyone and can take years. Once the rages have calmed down though, they can always come back, right up until your initiation, or ascension ceremony as the wolves call it.”
I rolled my eyes in understanding. I nodded slightly as all of this was now making sense to me.
“That's why I had them as a child. They went away but then came back a few years ago. It's a hunters thing,” I spoke out loud to myself.
“That is why hunters take their hunter children away from their human parents. They aren't safe knowing about us. Hunters from other factions, on orders from the council, took to killing or kidnapping hunter’s partners and their non-hunter children. It was their way of trying to control us and keep us obedient,” he explained, his words getting angrier and angrier as he went on. I placed my hand on his chest and as he looked up into my eyes, I smiled sweetly at him. He took in a deep breath and calmed himself before continuing, “my dad tried keeping me with my mom for as long as he could, but he found me one night ignited in flames standing at the top of the stairs. My mom was lying motionless at the bottom of the stairs with blood flowing out of her head…” He said sadly. I gasped and held my hand over my mouth, he immediately looked away from me out of shame. “I don't remember much of that night, my dad rushed her to the hospital and thankfully convinced her that she had tripped and fallen down the stairs. Soon after she recovered, my dad asked my mom for a divorce, he told her that he had met someone else and that he was taking me with him. She tried to fight through the courts but as hunters, we have many powerful contacts and she lost. He really broke her heart. But the sad thing is, there was no other woman, like ever. He never wanted anyone else other than my mom, but he had to do it like that to keep her and me safe,” he finished his story calmly.
Mason sat back onto his elbows and looked up into the clear night's sky, a single tear glistened in the moonlight as it slid down his cheek. The moment didn't need words, the moment needed me to show him exactly how much I loved him and how special he was to me. I stood up and began to pull my t-shirt up and over my head, thankfully in our rush to escape there was no time for a bra. Next to go were my shoes, followed lastly by my jeans and again no time, hence no underwear. Mason watched intently as every single piece of my clothing came off, he went to speak. I guess to protest and tell me that I didn't have to ‘blah, blah, blah,’ but I didn't care. I wanted him, and I wanted him now. I stood there completely naked, literally on top of a mountain in front of the man I loved, waiting for him to come and get me. But he didn't move, I could see that he wanted me, he couldn't hide the fact. I mean his jeans were nearly bursting at the seams and he had to keep rubbing his hands together to put out the flames every time they ignited with excitement.
I huffed and placed my hands on my hips, scowling at him I shouted, “Well!?”
He chuckled in response, which made me even madder. I decided to stomp around and gather up all of my clothes. I felt completely humiliated and was getting angrier and angrier with each garment that I retrieved from the floor. As I bent down again to pick up my jeans, Mason's hand grabbed my arm, and he yanked the clothes out of my arms and threw them back onto the floor.
“Don't get dressed babe. Why so mad, huh?” He asked with puppy dog eyes and a lowered bottom lip.
“You didn't say or do anything. You had me standing there freezing my bits off like an idiot,” I yelled back at him, but my words got quieter and quieter as my eyes scanned his now entirely naked body.
How the hell did he get undressed so quickly? What? Who cares? Look at them arms and his chiseled abs, and oh my God…I took in a deep breath and gulped when I saw his huge manhood standing to attention, ready to greet me.
“I'm sorry, Fi. I was just enjoying the view. You should have told me that you wanted me to do this…”
Without warning, he picked me up and with lightning speed slammed me up against the cold hard rock face behind us. I didn't even get a chance to inhale a breath before he smashed his lips onto mine. The sparks exploded instantly, making us both ignite into flames. I wrapped my legs around him, and he quickly pushed himself into me. Our bodies moved in perfect time. Our breaths matched down to the millisecond. Every twist and turn, every thrust and squirm were matched by the other's body, making every movement and delicate touch more intense than the one before it. We didn't stop kissing the whole time. Mason held the small of my back with one hand and the other was above my head, entangled with my own hand. Moans began to escape my lips and the louder they got, the more they echoed through the mountains. Mason's thrusts got harder and faster with every moan that I let out, like a reward system and I had no complaints about that. I began to slam myself down harder onto his cock, trying to make it delve into me as deep as it possibly could. I could feel my orgasm approaching fast while I let out another moan. Mason let go of my hand and slid it down to my bud. His fingers encased in electrical flames went to work on my bud, rapidly moving it around in circles. Within seconds I tilted my head back and screeched into the air, instantly joined by Mason's own screech of ecstasy.
***
We got dressed and Mason sat down with his back up against the large rock face. I decided to lay down and rest my head on his lap. I stared up at the stars as he stroked my hair and I had never felt so complete.
“Mason?” I whispered when my eyes became heavy.
“Yeah?”
With my eyes now closed and the land of dreams calling to me, I whispered, “I Love you…”
