Chapter 77 Chapter 77: I Will Let You Pay For What You’ve Done
Cristofer was stunned. He didn’t expect that Estelle would be so emotional.
“Cristofer, our relationship has come to an end, and you’ve found your true love. Why are you still acting like a victim here?”
Cristofer took a deep breath and asked, “What do you mean?”
“Why do you have to make things hard between us?” Estelle retorted. “I don’t care who you will marry, and I don’t have the right to interfere with your life. But I can’t let my daughter live with a vicious stepmother like her. I will try every means to get Yvonne’s custody.”
Cristofer sneered, “Who do you think you are? As long as I want, no company in Hadale will hire you. You hear me?”
“Yes!” Estelle stared at him defiantly. “But for my daughter, no matter how many difficulties come along my way, I will try my best even if I have to risk my life.”
The sudden quarrel between them attracted the attention of the company’s staff.
The meeting room was in the middle, and the walls were made of glass. Therefore, everyone outside could see what was happening in it. Although they could only vaguely hear the voices of Estelle and Cristofer, they could guess what was going on and were all surprised.
When Jeremy saw the staff gathering outside, he immediately rushed out with a frown and drove everyone away. “I’ll give you half a day off. You can go back home now. Hurry up. Leave the company immediately.”
Hearing this, the employees were overjoyed and quickly left with their belongings. After all, half a day off was more attractive than gossip to them.
Soon, the whole floor was empty except for the meeting room, where the atmosphere was still tense.
Cristofer said, “Estelle, I don’t believe you.”
“What a coincidence!” Estelle said, “I don’t believe you either, especially under the circumstances that you will marry this woman.”
With a darkened face, Gretchen had been sitting there silently.
In the past few days, with Melody’s encouragement, she had been trying to urge Cristofer to marry her as soon as possible. However, Cristofer was avoiding her recently.
Every time she wanted him to come to Only Love Jewelry with her, Cristofer would refuse immediately by saying that he was busy and didn’t have free time.
Unexpectedly, last night, he suddenly said that he would accompany her to Only Love Jewelry today.
When she heard that, she was overjoyed. It had been six years since she was with Cristofer, and she finally could marry into the Hans family and soon become a rich hostess. However, she didn’t want to live the life in which she worked in the 4S shop and had to bow and scrape to every customer to sell cars anymore.
When Gretchen came here today, she was pleased. But she didn’t expect to bump into Estelle today. And once again, Estelle messed up everything.
‘Why is Estelle here? Why does she always show up in my life and destroy my plans when I’m about to succeed?’
‘When I was about to get married to Cristofer, she gave birth to a baby. Now I’m here to buy wedding rings, and she tensed up the situation.’
Gretchen had been pretending to be obedient and sensible in front of Cristofer for six years. But at this moment, she could not hold back her anger anymore.
“Estelle, what do you mean by saying that Yvonne will have a vicious stepmother?!” she snapped.
Hearing this, Estelle, who had been staring at Cristofer, shifted her gaze to her and said with a sneer, “Who do you think you are? You don’t deserve to ask me any question.”
“You...” Gretchen growled, “Estelle, watch your mouth!”
“Did I say anything wrong? You almost killed my son and my mother. I’m kind enough that I didn’t slap you! Save all your pretentious meekness and try to please this man who believed you’re his saviour” Estelle glared at her.
Gretchen became flustered, and her face was flushed with anger. She glanced at Cristofer with a guilty conscience and then raised her voice deliberately as if she was wronged, “Don’t talk nonsense! Your son was born with a congenital disease. How could you blame me for that? I did not cause his bad health. Your carelessness during your pregnancy must have caused him to suffer from septicemia!”
Estelle sneered and said meaningfully, “Even Cristofer doesn’t know about my son’s disease. Gretchen, you know too much.”
Gretchen was caught off guard and stammered, “I...”
“Gretchen, I’ve reminded you before that I’ll let you repay what you owe me. My son’s disease, my mother’s illness, and the deaths of my father and Mrs. Moorsum are all caused by you! I will let you pay for what you have done one day!” Estelle said as she stared at Gretchen coldly.
Biting her lip, Gretchen hurriedly pulled Cristofer's sleeve and was about to cry. “Cristofer, I have never done anything to hurt Estelle. How could she say such words?”
Seeing her fake weakness, Estelle felt sick and thought, ‘She’s pretending to be pitiful and innocent again. Doesn’t Cristofer feel disgusted when seeing her acting this way? Funny. Maybe he likes this type of woman. A pathetic liar!’
Then she recalled the time when she was with Cristofer. Even when they were passionately in love and were very intimate, she never behaved in such a manner.
‘It is said that women who are good at getting what they want from men by throwing a tantrum or pretending to feel wrongly accused will enjoy a better life. Gretchen is a positive example, while I’m the opposite one. Perhaps the reason why my marriage was a failure was because I’m not good at acting docile.’
Thinking about this, Estelle glanced at Cristofer.
To her surprise, Cristofer didn’t comfort Gretchen as she had expected. Instead, he pulled his arm out of Gretchen’s hand, sighed, and said in a deep voice, “Gretchen, stop it.”
“Cristofer, what do you mean? Just because Estelle is your first love, you allow her to slander me, right? Don’t forget you are my fiance now! Why don’t you stand for me when I’m wronged?”
Cristofer closed his eyes and rubbed his temples wearily. “Calm down. It’s not that I don’t want to defend you. I just...”
“Just what?” Gretchen burst into tears in anger and snarled, “Cristofer, she abandoned you and left you when you were most helpless. It was also her who ruined your family. But it was me who accompanied you through your rough times! It was me!”
“I know!” Cristofer's voice thundered.
“Then why didn’t you speak for me when she accused me?”
Cristofer couldn’t stand it anymore. “Is it really a slander?”
