Estelle whispered gently, “Maybe... he did that not because he wanted to torture you.”
“Then why else would he do it?” Rebecca retorted angrily, placing her hands on her hips. “Furthermore, he once asked me to correct errors in a document. He should have pointed out all the mistakes at once, but he didn’t! Whenever I presented the revised document to him, he would point out another mistake and ask for further modifications. Consequently, I ended up making countless revisions! It was incredibly frustrating! I reached my limit with his unreasonable demands, so I dismissed him!”
“Then what are your plans regarding Henry’s adoption? Isn’t it stated that only married couples can adopt children?” Estelle inquired.
Reflecting on the matter, Rebecca let out a sigh and replied, “Estelle, the adoption process for Henry might be somewhat challenging.”
“What’s the issue?”
“The legal procedures for adoption are not a problem. Howard has agreed to assist me by entering into a marriage with me. Once I have successfully adopted Henry, we will proceed with a divorce. However, the current hurdle lies in Henry’s reluctance to be adopted,” explained Rebecca.
Upon hearing this, Estelle furrowed her brow and inquired, “Why is that?”
Rebecca shook her head and responded, “It could be due to his depression. The loss of his mother has profoundly impacted him, and he’s unwilling to embrace a new family. He’s truly a pitiful boy. His father deserted both his mother and him when he was young. His mother struggled all these years to earn money for his treatment, and he was progressing toward recovery. However, unexpectedly...”
“Alas, Estelle, why is life so unjust? A genuinely kind individual endures serious ailments while an immoral person can remain in good health despite multiple abortions and even manage to conceive again!” Rebecca added with a touch of despair.
“Who knows?” she smiled bitterly, knowing that the bad person that Rebecca was referring to was Gretchen.
“By the way, let me ask you something. Is Cristofer exceptionally fertile?” Rebecca inquired.
Estelle was shocked when hearing her question. “Why do you suddenly ask about this?”
“I just think that it’s amazing that both you and Gretchen got pregnant so easily, especially Gretchen. I swear that I really heard the doctor say that she couldn’t be pregnant anymore. But even so, Cristofer still made her pregnant! It’s incredible!”
“Maybe she got pregnant by luck,” Estelle said, looking a little embarrassed.
“Hmph. The two of them make a perfect pair, as they are both despicable individuals. Luckily, you have Mr. Mysterious now. Once his identity is disclosed in the future, you will become Cristofer's sister-in-law. I’m certain Cristofer will be utterly shocked when he finds out!” Rebecca remarked.
Suddenly, she glimpsed two figures at the gate of the outpatient building in the distance and then said excitedly, “Haha, what a small world. I saw her again!”
Following her gaze, Estelle turned her head and saw Melody and Gretchen walk into the outpatient building side by side.
“Estelle, there must be something wrong with her pregnancy. The doctor has said that she is sterile. No matter how great Cristofer's sexual capacity is, I don’t believe that she can create a medical miracle. Let’s go and see what they want to do!” Rebecca pulled her instantly.
Estelle, who didn’t want to go with her, quickly said, “Rebecca, just let them go. I’ll go upstairs to take care of my mother.”
“Auntie Aurora is currently spending time with her grandchildren, and the nurses will look after your mother. You don’t need to worry about that. Remember, last time we encountered Gretchen at the hospital, you didn’t accompany me. This time, it’s crucial for you to witness firsthand what she intends to do!” Rebecca urged.
Before Estelle could say anything else, Rebecca pulled her to the outpatient building.
“Gretchen and Melody appear to be quite familiar with this hospital. They even took the elevator directly. They might have scheduled an appointment with the doctor,” whispered Rebecca as she and Estelle discreetly positioned themselves behind a nearby pillar.
Once the elevator doors closed, Rebecca and Estelle proceeded to approach the elevator. The elevator monitor indicated that it had stopped on the fourth floor, where the gynecology and obstetrics department was located.
“Is she here for a prenatal examination? Oh, no. Is she really pregnant? It doesn’t make sense!” Rebecca said in surprise.
Estelle was not interested in it at all. “Rebecca, let’s go.”
“No,” Rebecca insisted. “My intuition tells me that there is something rather strange about her pregnancy. Estelle, I suddenly think of a possibility!”
“What is that?” Estelle asked.
Rebecca then whispered in her ear.
Hearing Rebecca’s words, Estelle frowned and said, “How dare she！ If Cristofer knows that...”
“She has always been so bold and unscrupulous, hasn’t she?” Rebecca said with a sneer. “Think about it. All that she did in the past have been exposed to the public, and she is notorious in Hadale now. If she leaves Cristofer, no other rich men will be willing to marry her. Therefore, she tries to marry Cristofer by every means. And the only way to make Cristofer agree to marry her is to get pregnant with his child. Beforehand, she reached out to Cristofer's grandfather because she believed he would convince Cristofer to marry her for the child’s sake, right?”
Estelle bit her lower lip and hesitated.
“Let’s go and see if she is here for an IVF treatment or not,” Rebecca urged her.
Inside the doctor’s office on the fourth floor, Melody retrieved a bank card from her handbag, placed it on the desk, and slowly slid it toward the doctor.
“I’ve already told you that with your physical condition, it’s not possible for you to conceive a baby. Even if you were to become pregnant, you would likely miscarry. Giving me money won’t change that. I cannot assist you,” the doctor bluntly informed Gretchen.
“Doctor, we’re not aiming for the baby to be born. We simply want her to be pregnant,” Melody smiled and clarified.
“If you have no intention of having a baby, why go through the trouble of seeking IVF treatment? It would simply be a waste of time,” questioned the doctor.
“We have our reasons, and all you need to do is perform the IVF procedure for her. There are over two million dollars in this card,” Melody stated matter-of-factly.
Once again, the doctor firmly declined without hesitation. “No, I cannot proceed with that. Furthermore, IVF treatment necessitates the involvement of her husband’s sperm. Does her husband have knowledge of her condition?”
“We cannot disclose this to her husband due to certain circumstances. Doctor, my daughter will provide the egg. As for the sperm... you can use anyone’s,” Melody stated.
