Chapter 33 Ideas in her head
SIENNA
After showering, I went into the kitchen to make dinner. Angel wasn’t home. It was her annual vacation, and she had traveled a day before, so I literally had the whole house to myself.
As I took the meal to the room, my mind drifted to what had happened at the office. He didn’t speak afterward, yet I couldn’t take my mind off him. I kept looking at his office to see if he would step out or even spare me a glance, but he didn’t. His head remained bowed.
Disappointing feelings surged within me. Was he really punishing me for going into Ethan’s office? But that shouldn’t have been a problem. It was strictly for work. My colleagues would suspect something if I didn’t follow him into his office.
I had just taken a spoonful of my meal when my phone buzzed. As though programmed, my eyes fell directly on the screen, and I wasn’t disappointed. It was the same person I’d been expecting. My lips curled into a smile, but after remembering how he treated me earlier today, the smile dissipated. I sneered and continued devouring my meal. He couldn’t ignore me all day and expect me to pick up as soon as he called.
The ringing stopped and started again almost immediately. Then again. Afterward, it was accompanied by a text.
“I’ll be forced to knock on your door if you don’t pick up.”
My heart skipped a beat, and my eyes involuntarily moved to the window. It was dark, but I could still see a faint figure.
What! No way. How did he think of coming over? Isn’t he scared that Angel might discover what was happening between us and turn it into the next office gossip?
Putting the food aside, I stood up and rushed out of the house.
And there he was, leaning beside his car with his legs crossed and hands tucked into his pockets. He looked like something taken straight out of a magazine. I couldn’t help but drool at the sight. My boss is fucking handsome and hot.
My steps slowed, but I eventually got to him.
“Boss… you…”
Before I could formulate a proper sentence, his arms encircled my hips, and he pulled me against his body. His scent wafted into my nose—still the same sharp, calming sandalwood. No matter how angry I was, I couldn’t resist that scent.
“You’re ignoring me.”
His voice was stoic and stern. Then he supported my chin with two fingers and raised my face to his.
“Huh, Sienna?”
It came out as a breathy whisper as he leaned closer.
My breath hitched, and my lashes quivered as I anticipated his next move.
“You… I am not,” I stuttered. “You’re the one who didn’t spare me a glance at the office.”
He chuckled and pulled back. “You don’t know what the mere sight of you does to me every fucking time.”
One of my brows lifted slightly. I didn’t know what he was talking about.
“Am I disgusting?” I asked.
“Whenever I see you, I want to hold you, turn you around…” He shifted to my ear and whispered, “…and fuck you until you can’t even say my name properly.”
A strange but pleasurable chill ran through me as his deep voice brushed against my ear. It was as though the screws holding my self-restraint loosened.
I raised my gaze. His eyes held something deeper than lust… something I couldn’t name. I would have called it love, but what we shared was far from that. Love? No. My boss and I were just having fun. There was no way a man like him would fall in love with me—his employee.
I swallowed, still staring into his eyes, unsure how to respond.
“So, you should know I wasn’t ignoring you. I just needed to stop looking before I lost control in the office,” he continued. “Although I wouldn’t mind fucking you right on my table.”
My face turned crimson. Lucien was shameless, and he wasn’t hiding it.
“You know that isn’t right,” I managed in a hoarse voice. “We could be caught.”
His hands gently squeezed my hips. “I don’t mind that, Sienna. That means I don’t have to hold back in the office.”
I gaped, unable to blink. “And what happens to my privacy?” I muttered. “If this gets out, I’ll be the scapegoat.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s wrong to sleep with one’s boss,” I replied. “Even if this is just for fun, people will think I’m trying to sleep my way to the top.”
I shifted away from his grip, and my tense body relaxed as soon as his hands left me.
Something shifted in his expression at my words, but before I could name it, it was gone.
“I’ll protect you, Sienna.”
His tone carried a seriousness that unsettled me. When I looked at him, the sincerity in his eyes almost made me believe him.
I chuckled. “Anyone would misunderstand your intentions with that look on your face.”
“Don’t act like you don’t know what I mean.”
“I don’t know what you mean, boss,” I countered. “What I do know is that we’re committing something that shouldn’t be revealed or taken further.”
His brows knitted, and his jaw tightened. He looked like he wanted to say something but decided against it.
Silence followed. I couldn’t even gather the courage to look at him again.
“I’ll pick you up tomorrow,” he said finally, sighing. His tone had lost its earlier energy.
“You don’t need—”
He closed the gap between us so suddenly that the rest of my words got stuck in my throat.
“You don’t have a say in this one, kitten.” He wrapped his arms around me. My body stiffened. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow, and that’s final.”
I stared into his eyes, my lashes trembling, then nodded. “Okay, boss.”
He kissed my forehead and smiled. “Go back inside. It’s cold, and your clothes aren’t thick.”
“Oh…” I nodded. “Yeah… thank you, boss.”
I forced a smile, waved, and walked away.
I didn’t turn back. I kept walking until I got inside and slammed the door behind me. It felt like I would suffocate.
The moment the door shut, I spun and watched him through the peephole. He stood there for a few seconds before getting into his car and driving off.
A heavy breath escaped my lungs. That was exhausting.
When I was with him, my heart beat so fast I thought it would leap out of my chest. The way he looked at me and touched me was enough to steal my breath.
And the conversation he was trying to pull me into? I didn’t want that. He was about to raise my hopes, and I fucking despised that.
Honestly, I almost believed him when he said he would protect me. I almost thought he meant it—that he truly cared. But then I remembered what we were: nothing more than sex partners. So I pushed the thought away and held onto reality.
That was safer.
That would save me from heartbreak.
The sound of my phone pulled me out of my thoughts. Instinctively, I picked it up, and for reasons I couldn’t explain, my heart sank when I saw it wasn’t him.
It was my mom. She rarely calls, and that alone puts me on edge.
Immediately, I answered.
