Chapter 41 A Clash For The Billion Dollar Deal

Chapter 41 A Clash For The Billion Dollar Deal
Cleo strode into the room, his hands smoothing his tie as he got in.

‘’Mr Mcshane.’’ The investor called out, offering his hands out for a handshake.

Cleo took it, nodding.

His eyes whipped in Alex direction, briefly raking him. Before pushing out the chair reserved for him and his team.

They sat down, their hands slipping Into their suitcases as they brought out huge folders from it.

Anna’s eyes widened in shock as she stared at them.

She stared at the folder in her arms that had seemed so heavy before.

Compared to theirs, Gritz firm had nothing!

‘’Christian!’’ Alex whisper-yelled, jabbing Christian by the side of the ribs.

He clenched his jaws painfully, seething in anger.

‘’You are dead!’’ He whispered, his knuckles going white from anger as he stared intently at Cleo.

Christian shivered.

He retrieved his phone from his pocket, worry lines etched on his face as he quickly sent a message to the private investigators.

‘WHAT OF THE MAN I ASKED YOU TO TAIL?!!!’

He screamed through the text, swallowing the screams that threatened to come out of his mouth.

He was surely going to skin them alive immediately they touched down in New York City.

He tapped his legs impatiently on the floor as he waited for a response.

His eyes unconsciously flew to Alex, the icy aura brooding from him, made him turn his gaze back to his phone.

After a while, his screen lit up with an incoming call.

‘’I’m sorry I have to take this.’’ He muttered, standing up from his seat.

He stood up and headed for the door, opening and closing it behind him.

His hands hovered against the screen, anger emanating from him as he picked it up.

‘’Do you know that the man I asked you to tail is in Venezuela right now?!’’ He shouted, his voice not audible enough to be heard by the people in the room.

But audible enough to send chills down the spine of the listeners over the phone.

‘’W—We couldn’t.’’ The man stuttered, his voice filled with fear.

Christian frowned.

‘’Couldn’t what?! We paid you enough!’‘ He whisper-yelled.

‘’He caught us tailing him. Me and my men have been stuck in the hospital ever since.’’ The man cried out, groaning in pain.

Christian paused, disbelief clouding his feautures.

‘’You’re saying that he caught you and beat you and your men up?’’ He asked, curious.

The man nodded immediately, despite Christian not being there to see him. ‘’Yes! That is exactly what happened!’’ He uttered

Christian could hear the voice of a nurse asking him to take his medications.

He immediately realized that the man had not been joking.

‘’So…did he ask who sent you?’’ He asked, staring at the door from time to time.

‘’He didn’t. But he called the boss name. He knows the boss sent me.’’ The man answered.

‘’Alright! You don’t need to tail him anymore. I’ll send the rest of the balance and some more for the hospital fees.’’ He said, offering a few apologies to him before hanging up the phone.

Sighing, he pushed the door open and walked back into the room.

By the time he got in, he could see Cleo and Alex already having a full blown eye contest.

‘’Before you both start, I would have you both know that you aren’t competitors.’’ The investor said, breaking the ice.

The room that was once cold with tensions was now replaced with confusion.

‘’Excuse me?’’ Alex asked, his face falling.

‘‘Duly excused, Mr DiCaprio. As an investor, I have learned to be very smart in my dealings. And right now, I have come to the conclusion that I won’t be releasing any funds into the project unless I know for sure that it would be beneficial to me.’’ He said, rubbing at the stubble on his chin.

Both his elbows where placed on the mahagony desk as he stared at them, his eyes filled with an excited glint.

Cleo shifted in his chair.

‘’Is there something we are missing Mr Don?’’ He asked, staring at him curiously.

The man broke into a smile. ‘’I want you both to be partners.’’

Alex froze.

‘’This was not the agreement Mr Don!’’ He uttered, his voice rising higher than normal.

Don Davis smiled. ‘’I don’t see why I should bank on just Gritz firm or just Shane Ltd. When I can literally bank on both.’’ He said, staring at both the men.

‘’But of course I’d still love to see those lovely pitch of yours. Heard you two were the best in the business.’’ He continued, chuckling.

With a snap of his fingers, the once bright room was engulfed by darkness.

Another snap of his fingers and the projector came on, the screen still blank.

‘’I believe you can both perform an excellent pitch together in this short period of time?’’ He asked, staring at both of them.

Cleo nodded, confidence brooding off him.

He grabbed a USB and some pile of paper and got up, heading for the projector.

Anna sighed, her heart hammering in her chest and she pushed her sit back, standing up.

She picked up the huge file and placed it in her left arms, ready to head over to Cleo when a hand reached out, stopping her.

It was Alex, grasping unto her arms.
Anna frowned.

‘’I’ll do it.’’ He said, making his team’s eye go wide.

He’d never done any of his presentations himself.
It was always done by his employees.

Anna heaved a happy sigh of relief as the weight was lifted off her shoulders.

She pushed the papers into Alex hands, making his eyes go wide in shock.

Like he had been expecting her to protest against his offer.

He stood up and walked towards Cleo, confidence also brooding off him.

They started their pitch immediately, debating corporate words like they were still competitors instead of partners.

Don Davis just stared on, clearly impressed.

Meanwhile…Anna was biting into her nails.

The free opportunity of not being the one presenting had gave way for negative thoughts.

She just remembered her step-mother’s threat and she stared at her screen, the timer getting faster by the minute.

In about three hours or less, the video would automatically be sent to Alex.

She tapped her legs impatiently on the floor as she sent another text to Gigi.

‘Is it done?’

She waited, but still no response.

It was the third time she was asking her if she had completed the task of dealing with her step-mother.

And even though it clearly said that she had read it, there was still no response.

Anna shivered, sweat pooling at the side of her head as she tried not to think of the question that had been swirling in her head ever since she sent the last message.

Had her mother-in-law bailed on her?!
