Chapter 40 Falling For Him

Chapter 40 Falling For Him
Alex came back after the phone call, his expression a complete contrast to how it was a few minutes ago.

‘’Is something wrong?’’ Anna asked, staring at him with worry.

Alex shook his head.

‘’You should go to bed now.’’ He uttered, briefly glancing at her.

Anna watched him walk away, her face contorted in confusion and worry.

She slowly walked back to her room and plopped on the bed, her eyes closing in exhaustion.

‘Ringggggg’ ‘Ringgggggg’

Anna’s eyes fluttered open.

Grunting, she grabbed the phone beside her with a scrunched face.

‘’What?’’ She grumbled, placing the phone in her ear.

‘’Come down for breakfast.’’ Alex cold voice bloomed from the other side, making Anna grumble some more.

She got up, rubbing at her eyes.

‘’Okay.’’ She muttered, hanging up the phone.

With an annoyed sigh, she slipped off the bed and headed for the washroom.

She stared at her reflection in the mirror, chuckling at what stared back at her.

She looked a complete mess. Still in last night’s dinner gown, smudged makeup and a nest of a hair.

Sighing, she turned on the faucet.

Her hands lingered on the cold water for a while before she slapped it against her face.

Turning off the faucet, she slipped out of the clothes and headed towards the shower.

Her mind reeled from last night’s event with Alex as water dropped from the shower head and into her tangled hair, smoothing it.

She giggled slightly.

‘Fuck!’ She cursed inwardly, wiping the smile off her face.

She couldn’t have—have falling for him. Could she?

No way!

She got off the shower and wrapped a towel around her chest, stepping into the room.

Another towel was wrapped around her hair, water still dripping out of it.

Anna plopped on the bed, dragging her suitcase close to her.

She eyed the beautiful outfits she’d packed for the trip, looking for the least.

Her hands settled on a large tank top and baggy jeans.

She took it out, slipping into it quickly.

Her hair was still damp as she combed through it, packing it in a sleek bun.

After the embarrassment last night, she didn’t plan on looking flashy for breakfast.

She stepped out of the room and headed for the elevator, stepping into it.

Clicking on the button to the dining room, she waited for the elevator to ding open before she stepped out.

They were having breakfast at the same location they had dinner last night. So she was able to find her way back there.

One look at her from the same security from last night and she got an instant pass in.

She wandered deep into the room, her legs stopping as she got to the main dining room.

It was empty, expect Alex whose back was facing her.

She stepped in front of him, taking a seat.

‘’What of the others?’’ She asked, staring around.
Alex stared up at her.

‘’They already had breakfast. It’s just us.’’ He said, waving a hand for the waitress.

A petite woman appeared, nodding her head as she scribbled the meals he wanted to order on a piece of paper.

When she was done, she walked out of the room, leaving them both.

Anna fiddled with her shirt, staring at anything but him.

He looked overdressed..

In a black suit and glittering jewelry to match his outfit, his aura.

She felt lowly under his scrutiny.

‘’You know we are heading straight to the investors after eating right?’’ He asked, staring her up and down.

Anna shrinked back. ‘’I didn’t know that. I would change.’’ She murmured, averting her gaze from his.

Just at the nick of time, the waitress sauntered in, carrying trays of food with her.

Behind her, other waitresses followed, also carrying trays on both their hands.

Anna’s eyes widened as she stared at them.

Was all that food for just she and Alex?

As if to confirm the question that lingered in Anna’s eyes, Alex nodded, gesturing for the waitress to place the food on the table.

‘’Yes. You’re too thin.’’ He murmured, picking up his cutlery.

Anna’s icy glare fell on him.

Too icy, it was enough to send chills down the spine of anyone.

But not Alex. He had already pierced a piece of meat with his fork and placed it in his mouth, completely oblivious to Anna’s angry stare.

With a huff, Anna picked up her cutlery and dug in too.

By the time they were done eating, Anna’s belly already looked like she had twins in it.

Not literally..

She picked up a serviette and wiped her lips, murmuring a silent thank you to Alex. Which he acknowledged with a curt nod.

‘’Is your pitch ready?’’ Alex asked, placing the glass of water back on the table.

‘’Yes…A bit..’’ Anna replied, scratching the back of her head.

Due to the limited time she was given, she couldn’t practice a lot.

Not after she fell asleep last night without even going through it.

‘’Let me see it.’’ Alex said.

Anna nodded.

They walked all the way back to her room and she gave it to him.

With the remaining time left, they practiced her pitch together.

Anna also had the time to change to a decent work-related clothing.

They walked down to the hotel’s lobby, joining Christian, Sienna and Simon.

‘’Where is the meeting being held?’’ Alex asked, staring at Christian whose face was glued to his iPad as he typed something on it.

‘’An executive lounge just around the corner.’’

Alex nodded.

They all got into a rental car and stopped just in front of this place, stepping out.

Alex walked into the place, his aura commanding the attention of people.

While the others just trailed behind him, glued to their devices as they struggled to grasp at any new information to make their pitch perfect.

They stopped in front of the executive lounge and got in, the lights blinding as they seeped through the blinds.

‘’Mr DiCaprio’’ A man who looked to be in his late 50’s got up, heading towards him.

He stretched his hands towards Alex, shaking him briefly before ushering them in.

They got in, sitting at the left side of the table.

With Alex sitting at the CEO’s chair.

At the right side, there were a few empty sits.

‘’I guess my competitor is late. Are you sure you want to do business with someone that can’t keep to time?’’ Alex asked, swiveling in his seat as he stared at the older man.

The man chuckled, a small smile playing on his lips.

‘’I’d rather pick based off expertise.’’ He answered, straightening his tie around his neck.

‘’Oh..he’s here.’’ He uttered, standing up.

Alex head whipped in the direction of the door as it creaked open, the sound of masculine heels clicking against the floor as his competitor walked in.
