Chapter 39 Lingering gazes
Chapter 39 Lingering gazes
‘’I’m sorry.’’ A manly voice bloomed, an apologetic expression on his face as he stepped into the elevator.
‘’it’s you!’’ Anna choked out, staring up at him.
Cleo turned to her, his eyes also widening in shock as recognition dawned on him.
‘’It’s you.’’ He repeated, skimming through her.
Her lace was tightened around her chest area, making the luscious part of her skin shine brightly.
Cleo gulped, averting his eyes from her chest area.
‘’What are you doing here?’’ Anna asked, also stating him up and down.
He was dressed in a tuxedo, just like the one he had to worn to the gala the last time.
His cufflinks shone brightly, illuminating the price he had spent on getting it.
‘’Here for something important.’’ He murmured, his voice low.
‘’You?’’ He asked, pressing on the button to the ground floor.
Anna nodded.
‘’For business.’’ She answered, earning her a curt nod.
The elevator dinged open to the ground floor and they both stepped out.
‘’I guess I’ll see you around again.’’ He murmured, winking at her before leaving.
Anna cringed at the gesture.
The world was indeed really small because she had seen someone she didn’t know much twice.
But it wasn’t small enough for her to see him again.
She took the thoughts off her mind and retrieved her phone, checking the location where she’d be having dinner with Alex.
For some reason, she smiled at that.
She put the phone back into her purse.
Her stiletto clicked against the marble floor as she head over to the dining area.
Security stopped her just right in front of the dining area before she could enter.
‘’This is the VIP dining area.’’ One of them spoke up, his tone laced with annoyance.
Like he’d been sending away Non-VIP customers all day.
Anna’s face twisted.
‘’Alexander DiCaprio asked me out here. I’m sure he’s in.’’ She said, tapping her legs against the floor impatiently.
The security man frowned.
He pulled out a ledger and opened it, his eyes scanning the content. ‘’Are you Anna joe?’’ He asked, corking an apologetic smile her way.
‘’Yes.’’ Anna answered, heaving a sigh of relief.
‘’I’m really sorry about this. This way!’’ He said, ushering her into the room.
Anna’s face that had already contorted due to anger was now replaced with anticipation.
The security stopped just outside of the room and bowed his head, stepping away from the VIP section and back to his post.
Anna breathed out, her hand resting on the knob in nervousness.
She turned it, pushing it open.
Once she got in, the sound of noisy chatters greeted her.
‘’Oh you’re here!’’ Sarah exclaimed, standing up.
She reached for Anna and yanked her by the arm, pulling her into a sitting position.
‘’What are you wearing?!’’ She scolded, the smell of alcohol hitting Anna’s nose.
She shifted, pulling her hands away from Sarah’s grip.
‘’You look overdressed for dinner.’’ Sienna’s bored voice bloomed, making Anna snap her head in her direction.
Her hands tightened into fist as she stared up at Alex whose brows were now raised as he stared at the clothes she was wearing.
Anna ignored, pouring herself a bottle of whiskey.
The drink stung her throat, her hands itching for more.
‘’Stop!’’ Alex said, his voice cold, unreadable.
Their eyes snapped to him, shock and curiosity laced in them at his sudden outburst.
Standing up, Alex headed for Anna and pried the cup off her hands, yanking her by the arms.
Sienna gasped.
She stared around, noticing the shock on each of their faces as they stared at Alex and Anna.
‘The couple didn’t bother hiding their relationship anymore.’ Sienna thought, mentally facepalming.
Anna gasped as she watched Alex pull her, her legs wobbly as she followed behind him.
‘’Where are we going?’’ She whispered, trying to yank her hands off his.
But he was stronger.
‘’To get some fresh air.’’ He answered, stopping just in front of a lobby.
They both sat beside each other, silence gaining the upper hand as the breeze hit their skin harshly.
Anna shivered.
Alex took off his jacket and draped it over her.
He pulled away, his eyes unfocused as he stared out the streets.
‘’You’ve never told me anything about yourself.’’ Anna murmured, breaking the ice.
‘’You know everything about me. I know nothing about you. Only that you own kyro industries.’’ She continued, staring at him.
Alex cleared his throat, turning his attention to her. ‘’There is really nothing to know about me.’’ He breathed out, averting his gaze from hers.
‘’What about your daughter?’’ She asked, testing the waters.
She knew it was too direct. But ever since she head from HM Zita about Alex’s daughter, she hadn’t stopped thinking about it.
She had never once since her before. Not had Alex ever been on a phone call with his daughter.
‘’She hates me.’’ He murmured, making Anna stare at him with pity.
She had never heard him sound so….sad.
She almost reached out to touch him but she held her ground, awaiting his next words.
‘’I have never really been there for her. Fighting for her custody is like fighting a lost cause.’’ He said again, dipping his hands into his pants pocket.
He pulled out a pack of cigarette and placed it on his lips, his mouth holding it in place as he reached for the lighter in his other pants pocket.
Anna stared at him.
She never knew he smoked. There were lots of things she didn’t know about him.
‘’You can always use me to fight for custody of your daughter.’’ She breathed out, cursing inwardly after she spewed those words.
What would he need her for?!
Alex bolted up from his seat, startling her.
She got up too, staring at him in shock.
‘’Is something wrong?! Did something happen?!’’ She questioned, her eyes roaming around the place before landing back on Alex.
He had this glint in his eyes. The type that made Anna shiver as she stepped back, unable to get her eyes off his.
‘’So I can use you. Uh…?’’ He asked, his voice hoarse as he stepped closer to her.
Anna stepped back, her face contorted in confusion.
‘’Yes.’’ She breathed out, her voice barely audible as she watched him come closer.
His face was barely a inch away from hers and his hot breath fanned her forehead.
The coldness of the night now turned into warmth as he closed in on her, his lips just inches away from hers.
Just as—
‘Zzzzzzzz’’
The sound of phone vibrating at the back of Alex’s pants pocket reverberated.
Anna legs were already jelly as she watched him pull away from her.
