Chapter 38 We Are Not Friends

Chapter 38 We Are Not Friends
A billion dollar?!!

That could change her entire life!

‘’Oh my God! That is huge!’’ She screamed, her hand clamping against her mouth as shock and excitement filled her being.

She hurriedly got into a sitting position.

‘’I’d need more time to prepare my ‘perfect’ pitch. When would we be heading there?’’

‘’At the break of dawn.’’ Alex sleepy voice came.

‘’What?!’’ Anna shouted. ‘’That’s too soon.’’

‘’How do I—do I—?’’ She stuttered, her chest heaving like she was about to have a full blown panic attack.

No response.

‘’Alex?’’ She called out.

Still no response.

Anna sighed, knowing he’d been plunged into a slumber.

She slipped into the covers and layed down, her eyes closing in exhaustion.

—/—

Just like Alex had said, they were already on the first flight to Venezuelan immediately the sun rose.

‘’Oh my God!’’ Anna gasped when she saw Sarah hurriedly getting in with a large suitcase in hand.

‘’Anna!’’ Sarah exclaimed, hugging her.

‘’What are you doing here?!’’ Anna asked, her attention now shifting to Christian who was now pulling Sarah’s luggage to the overhead compartment.

‘’I—I’m just an escort.’’ Sarah whispered, when she noticed the knowing look Anna was giving her.

‘‘I’m serious!’’ She continued, her hand touching her overheated face.

‘’You like him.’’ Anna murmured, a shocked expression on her face.

‘’Stop!’’

She shoved Anna away and got into the plane, lounging on one of the chairs.

The other workers from the branding department graced their presence and the airplane got into the air.

Anna stalked towards sienna whose hands where typing away at the laptop in front of her.

She sat beside her, her eyes moving from sienna’s face to her fast fingers.

‘’What do you want?!’’ Sienna asked, bored.

‘’I—‘’ Anna started, scratching the back of her head.

‘’I just wanted to say thank you for the other day. I guess I—‘’

‘’We are not friends.’’ Sienna interrupted, her eyes never leaving her screen.

Anna nodded.

She stood up from beside sienna and went back to her side of the plane.

‘’Tasty?’’

Anna stared up, her eyes widening.

‘’You!’’ She gasped

‘’In flesh.’’ Simon said, smiling.

‘’You literally ghosted me after the gala.’’ He continued, a tinge of sadness laced in his voice.

‘’Because I didn’t see you again.’’ Anna defended.

‘’Really thought you lied about being in the branding department. I didn’t see your around.’’
She continued, staring him up.

‘’I took a leave. See…’’ He said, pointing towards the badge on his chest.

‘Brand managing director’

Anna gasped.

He was the director.

‘’Oh my God! You’re my superior.’’ She literally screamed, getting into a standing position.

She offered him her seat.

‘’Oh no it’s fine!’’ Simon chuckled.

‘’You don’t mind if I sit next to you though?’’ He asked

‘’Not at all.’’ Anna hurriedly said, sitting down immediately.

Alex cleared his throat, gaining their attention.

‘’We would touch down in Venezuela later tonight. The pitch is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, so you’ll have the morning to finalize preparations. I expect everyone to be ready. You know what this deal means for Grey’s couture.’’

They all nodded.

‘’Good!’’ He murmured.

Anna watched him lean back on his seat, his eyes closing.

‘’Is something going on between you both?’’

Anna jumped.

She had completely forgotten that Simon was still beside her.

‘’Nothing.’’ She choked out, covering her eyes with a sleep mask.

‘’Something is definitely going on!’’ He said again, a tinge of excitement and curiously laced in his voice.

Anna sighed loudly.

She picked up some earbuds and stuffed them in her ear.

They stepped off the plane and into the warm humid air of Venezuela.

A sleek black SUV and series of other SUV’s awaited them.

‘’To be rich huh!’’ Sarah exclaimed, jabbing Anna by the side of the ribs.

Anna winced, bitting back a retort.

‘’Yes.’’ She nodded slowly, walking towards the car.

‘’I guess I’ll see you at the hotel.’’

Anna frowned.

‘’What do you—

She stopped when she noticed that no one else was in sight.

She watched the filled up cars drive out of the airport, her eyes widening in shock.

She was stuck with Alex!

‘’Are you getting in or not?!’’ Alex cold voice brought her out of her reverie.

She cursed under her breath, taking her heavy feet all the way to the car.

The chaffeur pulled the door open and they both got in, sitting quietly in the back seat.

The silence was heavy, tension palpable.

But none of them spoke.

Anna just stared out the window, gasps and awes escaping her lips once in a while.

‘’Did you pick the location?’’ She asked, turning to face Alex whose face was buried in his phone.

He turned off the screen, facing her.

‘’The investor did.’’

‘’Ohh!’‘ She mused, nodding her head as she turned her attention back to the window.

‘’The pitch—How is it going?’’ Alex asked, his voice low.

‘’Good.’’ Anna chuckled, waving the thick paper in his face.

Sienna had suddenly handed her the thick file saying it entailed information about the pitch.

She still didn’t know if she could handle it.

‘’Okay.’’

Silence engulfed the place after that.

The car suddenly pulled to a stop in front of a luxury hotel.

The golden glow of the lobby slipped out of onto the pavement as they stepped out of the car.

Inside, the receptionist didn’t waste any time in handing them their key card with a huge smile plastered across her face.

‘’Thank you.’’ Anna breathed out, taking the key card to her room.

They all got into the elevator, heading for the same floor.

The elevator dinged open and they stepped out, heading for their respective rooms.

Anna flashed Sarah a knowing smile as she watched her and Christian disappear into the room to her right.

To her left, Alex turned the knob and got in, not bothering to spare her a look.

Anna sighed, entering into the room with her luggage.

She plopped on the bed, her hand digging into the plush mattress.

She moaned, excitedly rushing into the washroom to take a hot bath.

Once done, she exited the washroom with a robe tied around her body.

Her phone dinged.

She picked it up, a smile on her lips as she stared at the text.

‘Come down for dinner’

It was Alex. Asking her to dinner.

She let out a soft giggle as she slipped into one of her finest dinner gowns, the fabric hugging her curves perfectly.

She stepped out of the room, heading for the elevator.

A rhythm danced in her thoughts, lifting her mood as she made her way to the elevator.

The elevator doors slid open with a chime, she stepped in.

Just as the doors were about to close, a hand shot out, stopping it.
