Chapter 40 Part Time Jobs

Chapter 40 Part Time Jobs
Part time jobs
Staring at the picture in my hand, I turned to the door, rushing to meet up with Dante, only to notice that his car wasn’t parked at its designated area. “I must’ve missed him—he’s gone and he’ll stay mad at me” I sobbed. But then I felt a familiar scent seep into my nostrils, his hands hugged me from behind.
“I can’t stay mad at you for so long Amorino—especially when you look like that” he whispered. I felt his hands move down my waist to my private area. I hadn’t noticed that I was in a chemise gown not the shirt I had come home with. Quickly, I hit his hands off.
“Not now Dante” I whispered, breaking free from his grasp and heading back inside, he followed right behind me. I took out the picture and slammed it right in his face “This is what I want to talk to you about” he took it from my hands and stared at the blurred photo.
“It might just be a guess but—”
“He’s the one who tried to kill you—I know, I’ve sent someone to get all they can in him. It seems like he’s been sent by a rival, they’ve started taking you as a target” I looked in horror as he explained “I’ll make sure to find him so that it never happens again” he assured me, a smile on his lips, I finally felt relieved, my heart didn’t race as much.
“But you owe me an apology” he smirked, pulling me gently by the arm. I stared at him with amazement as he looked down at my eyes, that mischievous grin in his eyes, his finger on my chin, my stare on my face.
“Don’t you have to go to work?” I said, averting my gaze from his. I felt his lips on my skin, kissing and sucking—his hands having a firm yet gentle grip on my body. I felt my blood rising, my face turned red, my will to control my body hadn’t gained much experience but I fought back. Pulling away, I stepped back.
“Please you can go to work—there’s no need for you to be here” I said, shutting my eyes completely, feeling his hand below my waist and then I felt a light brush on my lips, soft and gentle.
“I’ll see you soon Amorino” he smiled, pulling away reluctantly as he made his way back outside, leaving me with butterflies in my stomach. I almost giggled aloud but I threw my hands over my mouth to muffle my scream before rushing up the stairs to have a bath and start my day.
The thought of almost dying in that fire haunted me for the whole day—so much so that I thought the leave of absence was too unnecessary. My mind wandered back and forth with so much time to spare about thinking about Dante and how to deal with my no money situation.
And then it hit me—Claire! If I could work for her, I can make a little bit more and use that money to get out of his house. It’s bad enough that he spends on me without thought but harboring me in his home right now seems more like a burden than a lovely gesture.
“Hello—Claire speaking” her subtle yet seductive voice said over the phone, reminding me of how bland I sound and look. “Hello?” She said once more, reminding me that I hadn’t replied just yet.
“Hey Claire, it’s Lily”
“Hey girlfriend—what can I do you for?” Her voice sounded quite jovial then when she picked up the phone. “Hope you’re not having any issues—I heard what happened yesterday, my condolences” she continued with a sad tone but it sounded almost robotic. It hurt me, not just my belongings but the hotel room as well.
“I really don’t know how I’ll pay for the damages—that’s why I called, what if I worked for you?” I asked, my body filled with anticipation as well as fear. Maybe it’s a long shot and she won’t let me work for her or she would and I’d hate it cause it’s shady.
“That’s not a problem—but have you told Dante?” Her questioned lunged in my chest. If it was something I would have to confide in him, then I wouldn’t dare to do it all. I had no response and she let out a sigh “I guess this decision was made all on your own then” she added.
“He’s not my husband and he definitely doesn’t dictate what I do—can I send in my resumè to get started, I really need the extra cash” I could feel the desperation in my tone but I cleared my throat and tried again “I would like to work with you as long as the projects are clear and it doesn’t really affect my job with Mister Moretti” I added, making it sound more professional was the way to go.
“Alright then—how about you become my personal assistant?” It sounded more like a statement than a question. At first I didn’t respond but then she continued “You don’t have to come in frequently, all you need to do is schedule everything and learn and then inform me before time—also, you may need to stand in my place with or without Feil” that sounded like the perfect thing for me.
“Does it involve meeting unknown men and having to entertain them with smiles?” I had been instantly reminded by Felov.
“You don’t need to do that—you’re behind the scenes and your pay—we’ll discuss it when you’re here, I’ve got to go now, see you in an hour” she hung up the phone.
I stared at the blank screen “In an hour? What the—” I quickly leaped from my bed and headed straight to the closet, rummaging through what was sitting idle there. “Clothes—clothes” I mumbled as I moved from one robe to a night dress “What on earth is wrong with Dante? I don’t see anything I can use—Arghhh!” I groaned.
“Miss Lily—what if you take this?” Casperall asked from the door, holding up a silk dark blue top and skirt that looked just my size. I stared at the beaut with amazement.
“How did you—what is this?” I asked with a smile, rushing to her and placing my fingers on the silky surface as I traced the sleeves and collar. It looked new, eccentric even. I turned my attention back to her.
“It’s my dress—I’ve had it for a while but honestly, it would fit you better than it did to me” she smiled. I took out the dress from her grasp and pulled her in for an embrace. There wasn’t a time where I could say I had a friend or sister but Casperall had been all of that since I met her.
“You’re amazing—do you know that?” I smiled, planting a kiss on her cheek “Thank you so much for this Cas” I took off my gown and quickly slipped into it before turning to her and asking how it looked.
“You always look beautiful mi—” I glared at her “Lily—you look beautiful Lily” a smile formed on both our lips. I slipped into my pair of flats from last time and set out.

The text she had sent about their location had brought me into a real busy town—blaring horns and large buildings. I looked up at the huge structure standing in front of me that read ‘Nikifrov industries’. I stared at it with my mouth opened wide enough that if I stayed longer with it in such a state—a fly would jump right in.
“Woah” I gasped, making my way into the hallway filled with busy people—women in pencil skirts and suits holding up phones to their ears, men with tailored suits and shirts heading out to different parts. “So this is what it’s like being in a busy industry” I mumbled, walking into the counter. A lady held up a phone to her ear busy with documents and everything around her.
“Excuse me—I’m—” I yelled trying to get some attention “Pardon my intrusion” I said once more as the lady continued with her phone and documents kept scribbling around.
“I need to speak to Miss Nikiforov!” I yelled aloud making my interest known and then she paused and I could feel the tension in the air thicken as they all paused, waiting and staring.
“What did you say you’re here for love?” She asked, her Irish accent resounding through the hall.
“I’m here to see Miss Nikiforov—for an appointment” I said with a shaky voice as the phone which was held up to her ear was now just in her hand, the wire hanging in the air.
“What’s your name love?” She asked in a subtle tone, placing the phone back on the receiver and her eyes on the computer and then back on me.
“It’s Lily—Lily Thompson”
“My darling Lily” Claire called out from the front of the elevator, her short brown hair reminding me of how different and beautiful she looked, her eyes still taking the cat-eyed shape, her scent having that delicate mix of roses and Jasmine.
“Hey Claire” I smiled awkwardly as she placed her arm around my waist, pulling me to follow her, whilst the lady at the counter said a quick ‘good morning ma’am’ as we walked past. I could sense the air of animosity around the females and jealousy around the males while she took me to the elevator smiling and laughing her way to her office.
“So do you have it ready?” She asked calmly, stretching out her hand while she placed her bottoms on the cushion of her swivel chair. I hesitated and thought about it for a second. What am I supposed to have ready.
“Your résumé” I quickly took it out of my bag “It’s right here” handing it to her, I stood back a bit. She placed it on the desk with a smile on her lips.
“You’re hired!” What on earth did she do? She didn’t even look through it.
“But you didn’t even scan through it” I chuckled with a forced smile on my lips.
She stood up from her seat, walked over to me and placed a finger on my chin, lifting it up to see her face. Her long lashes seemed perfect, her cherry red lips almost puckered up in my face “I already know who you are and what you do right—this is all just a formality Lily Jamal Thompson, right down to your middle name” I stared at her, my eyes widened in shock.
No one knows about my middle name—that is, except Pamela and I. Who on earth is this woman?
