Chapter 16 16

Chapter 16 16
Henry’s pov

‘Please just say yes,’ I prayed deep down inside, hoping she’d change her heart.

My heart raced hard. I'm still down on my knees, looking up at her, waiting patiently for her answer.

She rolled her eyes, her hand resting on the sword handle on her hip area, even though she tried to act tough I could tell she was holding back so many emotions.
“No…. I’m not going to be your mate, after all you rejected me five years ago.” She shrieked.
“Oh…” I said, my tone disappointed.
“Yes…. And as for your request to help the pack? That's up to Alpha Cain.” She growled, turning away from me like I was irrelevant as was the piece of paper on the ground.
This wasn’t the reaction I expected from her, I know I hurt her, I did her a terrible thing but then, I still hoped she still had a tiny- bit of affection for me.

My jaw clenched as I watched her walk over to where Alpha Cain sat, a false smile spread all over her face.

“Father,” she began, her tone softer now. “Are you sure you should trust him? This could be an usurpation for all we know.”
Alpha Cain cleared his throat not answering immediately, his gaze remained on me like he could see through my guilty soul.
“Of course, we can't afford to trust him but we need every arm we can get,” he mumbled.

“We already have enough men.”

“They aren't enough, daughter. If we’re going to take over the witches and the hunters then we need to come at them with full force, we need AlphaHenry's men.”

There was a tinge of disappointment in her eyes as he said that she tried to hide it with a bitter laugh that never reached her eyes.

But I could tell she was hurt and it was sad because I was the cause of it.
“I'm sorry if this is going to sound disrespectful, I’m not going to fight alongside his men.” she croaked, her eyes flashing with anger.

“I’ve already made my decision, daughter,” Cain said, then he turned to me with a smile. “Please you can rise.”
I rose slowly, my knees stiff but I was glad I wasn’t killed by them. He then discharged me.
“I expect you to return soon with your men… remember, a deal is a deal.” Those were Cain’s last words before he released Scorpion and me.
As we drove back to my territory, Chloe remained in my mind. Like a dream hard to forget. I wish she had accepted to be my mate, maybe that would make me feel better, maybe feel the empty gaps in my life after all the moon goddess says your true mate would change your life forever and only make it easier.
I guess she was right because I had no peace with Lacey. She was the worst mistake I ever made.
Now she thinks we’re tied together because we have a child together, well she’s delusional. She’s never going to be my mate no matter how hard she tries.
I won’t give up until Chloe says yes to me even if it means risking my life for her affection.
Finally, we arrive at my home, but instead of feeling happy, I’m saddened, my home isn’t filled with warmth anymore. Instead, it’s cold, it reminds me of the coldness of the union I’d forced myself into.

It feels like an arranged marriage only that I’d done willingly, it also reminded me that I have to return to the false Luna, Lacey.
My lovely wife whom I couldn’t bear to fuck anymore.
She sat down on my throne wearing my crown, alone in the living room, “Well, well, well, see who decided to show up, where have you been, Alpha? How dare you abandon your pack?” She snapped, sitting straight.
“What I do is absolutely none of your business,” I retorted coolly.
And she smiled as if she was trying to contain the anger she felt. “Trust me, I don’t care, I just wanted you to know that I’m going ahead with my plan.”

“What plan?” I asked in a lackadaisical way.

“In case you’ve developed a sudden amnesia, I’m going to remind you, I’m sending the best of our men to attack the Blueblood territory soon, they are threats to us and we need to take them down before they take us down.”

Instantly I froze, I couldn’t believe my ears, when she first told me about this, I only thought she was joking, but her brooding made me realize she was dead serious. Something told me this has to do with Chloe.
“That’s preposterous, Lacey,”
She folded her arms across her chest, “And why is that?”
“Because you don’t make decisions for me, I’m the alpha….”

“And I’m your Luna!” She shrieked, getting up on her feet.” I deserved to be heard and seen and valued…. Not treated like a ghost!”
I clenched my jaw, “What’s this all about? You know damn well that your sister Laura who is now Chloe lives in the Blue Blood territory yet you still want to wipe out her newly found family?”
She didn’t respond, she just sat back on the throne looking above my shoulder avoiding my gaze.
“Sometimes I wonder if you were behind that car accident,” I added and she didn’t in fact flinch or react, instead she seemed hella guilty.

“That’s a serious accusation, Henry!” She snorted in an unusually calm tone.
“I know you, Lacey, even more than you think, I know what you’re capable of, so stop playing games with me!” I roared and she flinched this time.
“I don’t play games. Unlike you, I’m too busy planning to make the pack better, I’m not sneaking out and acting like a stranger in my home.”
“You are mistaken!”
“No! You barely even spend time with your child, you’ve not been a husband or an alpha for a while now, I’ve been the one covering your mess and this is what I get?”

“As your alpha, I order you not to send any men, because if you do, I’ll make sure they end up as Alpha Cain’s allies and fight with him in the upcoming battle against the witches .”

Her eyes widened, “Henry! This isn’t our battle to fight! Why do you do things to annoy me?”

“I’m only being reasonable here, you should learn a thing or two from me.”

All of a sudden she burst into uncontrollable laughter, one that scratched my ears, then she stopped, her face flushed out of anger. “You disgust me!”
“The feeling is in fact… mutual!”
I smiled, turning my back and storming off. She yelled and threw an iron cup at me but it missed.
I’m lying in the guest room trying to catch some sleep but Chloe’s face won’t leave my mind.

She seemed like an impossible dream, like a price possession I couldn’t reach because she was way up there. Not only was she hostile towards me, but she hated me so much, she wouldn't even dare to look at me.
She had every right to be, I failed my best friend and mate.
But I won’t give up, at least not yet.
The door screeched open and Andrea stepped in.

She was dressed in a white transparent gown that revealed her cleavage and long legs, she stared at me with seduction and something dangerous.
“What do you want?” I asked.
“Would you like dinner?”
“Did Luna send you?”
She shook her head, “No, Sire, I came on my own, you look so stressed these days, I can’t help but notice you train every time, do you need a massage?”
“I need you to fuck off!” I yelled.
She nodded and scurried away like a stray dog.
I shut my eyes tightly and I saw Chloe’s face, this time it was pleasant, I could smell her, and merely thinking of her made me fall into a deep slumber.

By the time I opened my eyes, the sun was out.

I yawned and stretched in my bed, my vision foggy from sleep, but as my vision cleared I froze immediately
Lacey sat right in front of me, watching me like a creep.
She had a smile on, this time it wasn’t filled with contempt but…. Kindness.
“Rise and shine, My king!” She gushed.

“What are you doing here?” I asked coldly.

She stood and sat at the edge of the bed, “ I’m here because I’m glad you met up with Alpha Cain.”

I was taken aback by her words. Glad? How?
“I thought you hated the Blueblood’s pack!”
A scoff rolled out of her pink glossy lips. “Of course I hate them, but then I’ve seen the bigger picture of this alliance."
“Which is?”

“They are stronger than us, if we want to bring them down then we must first learn about them,” she muttered, her finger tracing my arm. “Their weakness and strengths.”
I jerked her hands off my skin, “Does that include Chloe too?”
She grinned. “ Of course not, we’ll save my twin, but you have to promise me something.”
“Promise you what?”
She rose to her feet and walked over to the window, her back against me. “Promise me,” she began,” that it’ll never come to a point where you have to choose between her or me and Eloise.”
