Consumed By Him.

Consumed By Him.
POV: Isla

The sound of my name on Damian’s lips as he woke up shocked me to the core. It wasn’t his usual command or threat wrapped in a lethal tone that could strip me of any restraint I had.

His eyes drifted down, catching on the pillow as it fell from my grip. The phone in my hand went dead suddenly.

I knew the stranger had heard it too— the sound of Damian’s voice, weak but alive. He knew that I hadn’t done it, that I failed.

Fear clawed its way into every part of me. Did Damian know? Did he see me trying to strangle him with the pillow? Could he tell I had been standing over him seconds ago ready to—

No.

I can’t let him suspect anything right now, or I’ll be a dead person. I dropped to my knees beside him, forcing tears to stream down my cheeks. My voice breaks into a ragged cry.

“Oh my God….Damian. You’re awake. Thank God, thank God…..” I pressed my hands to his chest as if to soothe him, my fingers trembling over them. “I thought I had lost you forever.”

His lips curved into a thin smile, faint but deliberate. As if mocking death itself.“Not… yet.” He growled, gasping from exhaustion.

Then, with all his effort, his eyes locked on mine. Only me, before parting his lips to speak. “Isla… I had to make sure. I had to see… that you were safe.”

I blinked, unable to comprehend what exactly he meant by that. “Safe from what?” My voice trembled, but not from my fake pretense this time. From what he said which sent a shiver through me.

“The Crimson Jackals,” he said, forcing each syllable through clenched teeth as sweat slid down from his forehead. “They left a warning that they’d come for you.”

His chest rose and fell rapidly, shallow breaths rattling out of him before he spoke again.“If anything happened to you…” His voice cracked—

Damian Cross, the man who barked orders and threatened me all the time, now sounded different than I had ever seen. “I would never forgive myself.”

For one blinding second, I forgot about everything I had wanted to do earlier—the man’s voice forcing me to kill Damian. All I saw was a vulnerable Damian, whispering words I never thought would come out of his mouth.

His words were weakening me and I hated it. That made my chest ache in a way no blade ever could. I looked away, swallowing the lump that formed in my throat.

“You idiot,” I whispered, but it came out softer than I meant. “Why the hell would you risk driving back here with a bullet wound? Do you have a death wish?”

His lips twitched at the corner, almost a smile but it wasn’t. “Maybe.” He leaned in, closing every inch of space between us. “I'd rather die than see you in danger or harm, Princessa.”

The silence between us stretched, thick and heavy with something dangerous I didn’t want to name as I turned my eyes away from him, forcing myself to stop this before I would let myself stupidly melt into him again.

“I’m going to call Mark,” I said quickly, standing up instantly. “He’s been worried sick about you and I know he’ll—”

His hand gripped my wrist before I could stand up. He tugged sharply, pulling me back down onto the bed beside him.

“Damian….”

“Stay with me,” he ordered, his voice low and final. I turned toward him, words gathering at the edge of my lips, but I never got to speak them.

Before I could say something his mouth crashed against mine with a violent force. A consuming force that stole the air from my lungs and replaced it with something else.

His lips were rough and demanding as they claimed mine. I gasped against them, the sound breaking into a moan I couldn’t swallow.

I pressed my hands to his chest, trying to resist the overwhelming urge to push him away— but he deepened the kiss mercilessly, his tongue sliding against mine with a hunger that left me dizzy.

“Da…Damian, stop” I tried to speak, but his mouth swallowed the words whole before they could even come out. And then his lips crashed against mine, harder, a demand I couldn’t escape.

“mmph….”

A muffled protest spilled from me as my hands shoved weakly at his chest, the sound of my own whimpers vibrating against his kiss. He didn’t stop because his mouth moved over mine with relentless hunger.

I gasped against his mouth, the noise something in between half pleas and half pleasure. But the sound only seemed to motivate him, his tongue pushing past every barrier until there was no space left for me to breathe.

And God help me, I didn’t even try stop him.

My fingers gripped his shirt, pushing me even closer as though I’d die if he let go. My body betrayed me completely, arching against the heat of his. With every sound coming out from my throat now a soft, broken whimper as he dragged me closer.

His hand slid to my waist and pulled me against his chest. The grip was bruising and possessive, every part of his mouth kissing me in different places until the only sounds I could make were muffled gasps and helpless moans.

And just as his hand tugged at the fabric of my dress, trying to rip it open to surrender all of my body to him—

BAM!

The door slammed open.

I jerked back, breathless from the intensity of the kiss between us. The taste of his lips still burning on my tongue as I turned to know who it was.

Selene stood in the doorway.

Her eyes locked on us with a vicious and dangerous look in them. For one chilling second, I swore that her silence screamed louder than any bullet.

“You fucking bitch!”
