Chapter 68 CHAPTER 68

Chapter 68 CHAPTER 68
I got back home just as Tori and Edgar were coming back, so no eyebrows were raised.

And once again, she kept my secret.

Okay, maybe she's being real this time.

But I wasn't convinced yet.

Thursday rolled by and I got to school to see another row of roses, filling my desk and chair.

And then another note.

"Can you have lunch with me? Bring your cousin if you want. But I promise I won't hurt you."

"Let me see," Tori snatched the paper before I could stop her. "He's lying through his vampire teeth!"

"Yeah, well I'm not going."

"Why? How would you know what his plans are now that he's here? Mom told you to let him get close."

"You guys keep forgetting he's also my mate."

"Hm, someone is truly a whore, in and out. Why else are you getting two mates?"

"You know, Kane, I could go tell him to come finish what he started that night, is that what you want?"

His silence was very satisfying.

"That's what I thought."

"Are you going?"

"No Tori, I don't want to get too close to him, okay? He's leaving soon. That's what they need to know."

"But what if they don't want him to? If they get one brother, the other will follow. This might be your only chance to kill them."

"Come on Tori, don't be cruel," Pragya spoke up, "it's her mate we're talking about here."

"Yes, but he wanted to kill her first!"

"Doesn't make it easy. You don't understand because you've not met your mate yet. I have and I can't imagine the idea of hurting them, murderer or not."

"Damn, are you having second thoughts, Sera?" Annabelle chipped in.

"Second thoughts about what?"

"Anna is saying you plan to abscond with the vampire and I agree with her. You don't sound particularly loyal to your kind," Cara drawled from the back.

"Yeah, I think the Alpha should know this. You choose your pussy over the Pack."

"Are you nuts? I killed three vampires because of this Pack and their requirements. I didn't ask to be a wolf, and I shouldn't be expected to kill my own soulmate. That's cruel. I can help lure him in if that's what they want but they have to do it themselves."

"That's worse, Sera," Pragya said, "killing him is mercy compared to what the Council will do if they catch him. Try to make peace with it. It's bound to happen."

"Or she'll betray us, she looks like the type to do that."

"Who's coming for the Full Moon party tomorrow night?!" Christian yelled from the other end of the Pack and the attention shifted from me to the topic.

I sent him a smile of gratitude and did the same with Pragya and then I took the roses out to drop them in my car.

I turned to shut the door and there he was, standing behind me.

"What do you want, Cael?"

"Are you coming? I don't mind all your guards coming as well. I just want to talk to you where I won't be wary of the entire Pack listening to our conversation."

"Look, just forget about this Cael. What's the point? You're leaving soon, aren't you?"

"Well, erm, yes."

"Then what's the point? Dates, roses, apologies and stuffing my nose full of your scent that I can barely think, what is the point of it all? Are you just trying to punish me?"

He crossed the one step of distance between us and held my hand, his eyes blazing into mine.

"I just want a chance to make memories that'll last me for a lifetime Sera. Please."

"It's selfish and cruel."

"To you or to me? You're going to pass away in what? Seventy to ninety years? I'll have that death ruining my existence and I'll keep living in darkness, hoping and waiting for your reincarnation. The possibility of never finding you again, heightened. I have no soul, so I must stay alive for yours to return. Isn't that a worse punishment?"

"I..."

"The fates are cruel to us, my love. But we have to find a way to make the best of this lifetime. Maybe in the next one we won't have swords pointed at each other's throats."

"But I don't know how."

"I'll set up something small in the new section. The hallway that collapsed that afternoon. There's no soundproof door there so if you need to scream, you can but it's private enough."

"What do you want to do with me?"

"So many things, Sera. But I can only talk. I want to see if there's a way to counter this."

"I'll be there. Thank you for the roses, they're my first."

"I'm happy you like them," he whispered, kissing my hands.

I headed back to the class but before I could get in, hands roped around my waist and I pulled out claws, ready to slash when I realised it was Fabian.

"You scared me," I whispered, quickly retracting then before he could see.

"You're stronger than you look," he chuckled, pulling me past his class and to the abandoned class after our own.

"Where are we going?"

"Can't a man steal a kiss from his girlfriend?"

"Haha, girlfriend huh?"

"Okay, love of my life is more like it. My queen works too."

"How long will this hobby of yours last?" I asked, relaxing into his arms.

He backed the door and leaned on it.

"As long as you want and if I have to head back, we'll keep chatting. You can always come visit me whenever you want."

"I doubt I'll have the free time for that, sorry."

"Then I will keep coming to visit you. I bought that resort after our date last night. So you can always go there whenever you want."

"Really?"

"What is mine is yours, darling."

"Sorry, I'm not used to people doing... wild things with me in mind."

"Trust me, you don't know half the things I'll do for you."

"You can kiss me now."

"I thought you'd never ask."
