Chapter 70 The Predator

Chapter 70 The Predator

Days had gone by and silence was proudly dominating the home of the Knowles family. Sarah Knowles had not spoken to her husband ever since he took Jessica's side and not hers while Jessica herself walked around the house like a ghost no one could see.

She didn't pretend to be nice to her mother in law, the woman was of no use to her. She smiled at her father in-law, acting nice to him just to get into his head like a parasite and feed on his brain.

It was working, that was the only reason she kept it up.

And to Chris, she ignored him like he was the ghost. A ghost she didn't see or cared less about. To her, he was just as insignificant as their plant to her. Less insignificant even.

She found herself thinking of a man before falling asleep though, a handsome man, suit and tie yet underneath he was like Superman.

He was handsome, impossibly good looking for that matter. With eyes that seduced just about anyone and a smile that was even more beautiful than a sunset and a sunrise.

Romeo Armani.

She would blush whenever he came to her mind, she was a girl after all, she was allowed to fantasize about things like that.

She didn't remember when she clicked it, but she had started following him on social media and she was grateful for that.

His updates were always something to bring a smile to her face. If Chris wished to spend the rest of his days fantasizing about Cara then he could go ahead, she would have her on fantasies too meanwhile focusing on her new goal.

One time, she was angry at Chris for calling her over to please himself, but a notification from Romeo brought a smile to her face.

He was dressed so casually, a day at home with his dogs. His smile looked ever so natural and he looked so happy.

She ignored Chris' call and fell asleep happily that night.

A knock rapped on her door that Friday evening and she frowned, wondering who it could be that was disturbing her.

Lazily and without haste, she climbed out of her bed and walked towards the door.

Another rap of knock landed on her door and she groaned softly. "Coming." She finally responded.

Unlocking the door, she twisted the door knob and pulled the door open. Her eyes landed on her mother in law and she stood with her hands on her hips, wondering what the woman wanted from her.

"Jessica Knowles," Sarah seemed quite angry, her stare was ice cold. "Your character towards me, towards us! The people you should call a family and respect, are getting very intolerable and if you do not adjust your manners then you will have to face the consequences." She spoke firmly.

Jessica rolled her eyes skyward and placed one hand on her door now, the other still glued to her hip. "What is it now?"

"You speak without manner, respect or regard for who you are talking to, look at you now, rolling your eyes at me! Your mother-in-law!"

"Do you speak with respect for me as well?" Jessica arched her brow as she asked.

Sarah was beyond flustered. She batted her lashes repeatedly. "Wh--what?"

"Think about it, you also speak without regard. Look at you now! Yelling at me like I stole something. What exactly brought you to my door?" She crossed her arms below her breast with an air of authority around her.

Sarah scoffed a laugh which transformed into a chuckle. She was trying to understand the boldness and daring behavior of Jessica but nothing came to mind.

She might have been laughing but on the inside, she was fuming, failing at each attempt to control her emotion. Yet she managed to remain calm.

She raised her chin in the air and crossed her arms below her breast. "You have been meeting with my husband a lot at work lately, tell me why."

Jessica scoffed a laugh. "Why would you be curious about my business?" She placed a hand on her chest as she said the word "my".

"Excuse me?" Sarah arched her brow.

"I mean... It is my business after all. Whoever I am meeting with whether your husband or not is my business and I don't think you have any right to know why. You can be curious, sure, you are only human after all, but your curiosity is yours to feed with whatever you want."

"Mind you, young lady, you are my daughter in-law and Michael is my husband! If I demand to know something, you are both entitled to tell me what it is without any waste of time!" Sarah barked.

Jessica moaned softly. "Ah... I get it now," her voice was soft and calm. So calm that it placed Sarah on edge. "Your husband didn't tell you when you asked him and it must have hurt your pride, so now you are here to feast on the smaller prey but I am afraid to tell you that I am no prey at all not to speak of a small one."

Sarah broke out in a hoarse laughter. "You think so highly of yourself young woman yet you have so much more to learn. Do you think it's all about being gutsy and putting up an attitude? No my Darling, you should have paid attention to me and took lessons while I was offering.

"But then again, you're no wife material like Cara, in fact, you're no wife material at all. You think it's about being obedient to your husband that makes you a wife? Then again, you're not even that too. Obedient."

Jessica felt a spark of rage inside her. It was what Sarah wanted, to put her on edge. She always compared her to Cara any time she wanted to hurt her feelings.

Knowing that didn't stop it from hurting though especially since she knew it was true. That was exactly why Chris was still so hung up on Cara. Because she laid an expression not to ever be forgotten.

Yet Jessica smiled. "You are so petty, Mrs Knowles, comparing me to my husband's ex wife any time you want to hurt me. I know your tricks and I am afraid to tell you that they no longer affect me."

"Oh really? Then why does your face say otherwise?" Sarah arched her brow with a smug smile on her face.

Jessica let her eyes roll skyward. "I hate to break it to you but I'm not someone you can feast on you parasite, I am the predator here. Watch me sink my fangs into your throat!"

She slammed the door in Sarah's face.
