Chapter 26 Tricks
She blinked. Clearing her throat, she managed to rid her face of every look of surprise but not after Cara had seen everything.
"You think that..." Jessica started but swallowed before continuing. "You really think that I will believe the words that come out of your mouth?"
"Looks like you already did." Cara smiled. "But hey, eat it up, puke it out, I don't give a fck, I already served the meal warm and delicious. Now if there is nothing of importance that you came to see me for, kindly get the fck out of my office and my company. Oh and darling? Never step foot in this place ever again or I'll freaking get you arrested!"
The look on her face was stern which made Jessica understand that that was no empty threat.
She cleared her throat dryly and managed an empty smile. One that barely touched her lips spoke less of her eyes. "I'll get out of your hair... For now. As long as you steer clear of my husband, I don't think we will have a problem."
"Yay thanks." Cara rolled her eyes along with her sarcastic remark. "Also, tell your husband to steer clear of me as well, I just can't take it anymore seeing his face so early in the morning twice in one row."
Jessica wanted to keep talking but Cara showed her the door and even taught her how to use it!
"In case you don't know how to operate such a pretty and expensive door, it's easy. Just hold the knob and carefully push it--"
"Thanks for the lesson." Jessica angrily cut her off and showed herself out of the office.
Cara let out a heavy sigh as she ran her hands through her hair. It wasn't such an easy task looking into the eyes of a person you cared so much about and forced to act all bitchy to them.
The only reason she still hated Chris and Jessica was because she still loved them.
She might have lied that she didn't get the luxury to think about personal matters, not to mention them which was not fully a lie since she was always busy. Yet at the oddest moments, her ex marriage resurfaces in her mind and dumps her in a shitty place for a while before she can get back on her feet and be free again.
It was a continuous happening.
The door opened and her personal assistant walked in. "Ms Smith, are you okay? That lady didn't seem like a friend? Is there anything I should be worried about?"
Cara forced a smile and shook her head. "It's fine. She isn't our worry. Just a bee without stingers and bees without their stingers are just some annoying bugs who get smashed when they don't know when to stop buzzing and leave."
Her personal assistant didn't have the look of someone who understood clearly on her face but before she could ask anything, Cara spoke up.
"You can leave now, I need to relax."
The young lady nodded and obediently walked out of the room. Leaving Cara alone with her thoughts.
With another long and heavy sigh, she walked back to the leather chair she had been seated on and relaxed into it.
She needed to rest.
Jessica felt like her sanity was slipping away from her. She kept pacing about in the living room while chewing on her finger.
Chris had left Cara for her, who was prettier and younger, so it made every sense for him to repeat that action again with another woman especially now that childbirth had changed her a little.
But wasn't it a child he wanted? If she knew then she wouldn't have gone to such extents to get pregnant in the first place!
She shrieked while running her hands through her hair and pulling at it like she wanted it out of its roots. She was losing her mind.
To make the matters worse, she had been calling Chris for over an hour now ever since she got back home and he had ignored every single one of her calls.
Now, the number wasn't even going through!
"What am I going to do? What am I going to do?!" She screeched. "He had better not be doing what I think he is doing!" She yelled at herself.
But what if Cara had said what she said just to get to her? Just to put her in panic mode for no goddamn reason? What if she was just being tricky?
"Save your tricks for Halloween, Cara Smith!" She yelled.
But she knew Cara and she knew her well enough to know that she hardly played tricks if ever. Whenever she said something, it was the truth and cold hard fact!
She decided to call someone else who might have known where Chris was. One of his friends, Max, but was sent to voicemail only after three seconds which meant her number had been blocked.
She didn't know why he would do such a thing but there was no time to dwell on that so she called another of his friends, Mathew.
Thankfully, he answered her call. After six missed calls. "Oh thank goodness! Mathew! Why didn't you answer your calls before? Never mind that! Where are you right now?"
"What do you want from me?" Mathew uninterestedly asked.
"What do you..." She shook her head, reminding herself there was no room for any more curiosity. "Mathew, do you know where Chris is? He is at work right? Or maybe he is hanging out with you guys somewhere. That must be it. It's only afternoon guys, save the fun for later in the evening and can you tell him to pick his calls for fcks sake!"
Mathew was silent.
"Hello?" She spoke into the receiver.
"Look," he finally spoke up. "I don't know what the hell is going on with you guy's marriage and I also don't want to know. Why? Because I don't give a fck. Your man and I are done, we are no longer friends and I have no reason to talk to you either.
"I didn't block your number out of courtesy and also because I thought you would never call which obviously, I thought wrong. Just please, never contact me again about that fool you call a husband. Don't even contact me for anything! Now get the fck off my phone."
Every single word came with politeness.
She was too stunned to speak.
