Chapter 22 Ruined
Cara was silent. The drive to her apartment seemed longer than she thought. Yet the deafening silence prevailed without competition.
On arriving at the entrance of her complex building, Romeo pulled the car to a stop and made to open the door to come down but Cara didn't budge.
He stopped and turned to look at her, hands still clinging on to his seatbelt. "Carina?" He called her name softly. "Are you alright?"
She turned to look at him, her eyes staring into the magic green orbs he called eyes. "Are you alright?" She threw the question back at him.
His thick brow arched skyward. "What? What do you mean?"
"Back there, you seemed... angry." She hesitantly responded, not knowing the words to use and how to put them carefully with each other.
His hands finally slipped away from his seatbelt as he relaxed into his seat with a silent sigh. "How could I be alright when he talked trash about you? And besides, what does he know about me to say that nonsense he said? Does he think everyone is like him? A useless cheat? I mean his new marriage is what? A year old? But look at him, dancing with another woman at the club, getting all sensual with her while trying to get in the head of his ex wife." He scoffed a chuckle. "What a waste of flesh and bones."
Cara didn't know why he was getting so angry. He didn't care about Chris or anything he did and even in the past, when Chris would talk bad about him, he would just smile and ignore him because he truly considered him as a waste of flesh and bones.
She turned to look at him, staring directly at his face. "I want to–"
Cut off by the sound of his phone ringing, Romeo asked for a moment while he took out his phone to receive his call.
"Hey mom, what's up?... The Carlson's deal? It's almost in the bag, I just need to go over a few details to make sure everything is alright and properly fixed... alright, I'll call you when I arrive at the office. Okay."
With that, he hung up the phone. "I have to get back to the office to go over some files. Did you want to say something to me?"
"Uh yes, I wanted to... thank you for what you did tonight, I really wanted to punch him for ruining my car and my day but I was afraid my hand would be hurting and not his face."
Romeo let out a soft chuckle at her remark. "You're welcome. Feel free to call me whenever you see him and wish to punch him, I'll rush right over."
She laughed softly as she undid her seatbelt. Opening the door, she got down from the car and turned back to face him. "You don't have to see me off, I'll go up by myself. Just try to leave work and get some rest. It's way past midnight already."
He saluted her. "Alright ma'am. See you." With that, he put the car in ignition and drove away.
Cara let out a gentle sigh. She had wanted to ask him the most ridiculous question ever and she was glad she was cut off by his phone ringing.
She didn't know what gave her the courage to do so but she had wanted to ask him if he liked her in a romantic way. What would it matter if he said yes? Would it change anything between them?
It would have changed a lot between them if he had said no. They would have been thrown into the most awkward situation ever if he had told her he didn't like her that way.
With another sigh, she turned and went straight into the complex building.
Sarah walked into her bedroom with a glass of champagne in her hand. She sat like a model in her Queen sized bed and took a sip from the wine glass in her hand.
She had been so busy with work that she hadn't been home in a while.
The door opened and Michael Knowles walked in to meet his wife with a smile on his face. "Honey! How long has it been since I last saw your beautiful face?" He teased. "You have to promise me that you won't go on another business trip for the next few months."
She smiled softly. "Tell me how much you missed me, the things you missed about me."
Michael's lips spread further on his face into a wider smile. "I've missed your angelic voice, your beautiful face, your amazing porcelain skin, your magnificent curls."
"Oh please." She let out a chuckle as she responded. Taking another sip from her drink, she asked. "And Chris? I haven't been paying much attention to him. Even when I was still around, I didn't step into his corner of the house. How is he?"
"He is alright my love," he climbed onto the bed and settled next to his wife. "He hardly shows himself at work these days though but I can't blame him."
"And why is that?" Sarah's thin brow arched slightly as she asked.
"Well with the birth of his baby, I think it is very natural for him to–"
"Wait what?" She cut him off. "Baby? Cara has a baby for him and none of you thought it was ideal for you to notify me of this?"
"My love, I thought you knew! And, it isn't Cara that had a baby for him. She divorced him a year ago and he is married to another woman. Her name is Jessica–"
"What?!" Her eyes widened. "My son got a divorcé and no one told me too? Why did they divorce? No! Don't answer that." Her expression turned grim. "I was happy for no reason whenever I saw news frequently about the success of the Smith's company but she dared to divorce my own son? I always knew she was a pig in filth and no matter how much you cleaned it up, It would still return to the filth!
"I guess I'll have to teach that pig a lesson and make her regret everything she did wrong to my son and my family! She had better be prepared to be ruined for life!"
