Chapter 146 Away For A While

Chapter 146 Away For A While
Chris' eyes flickered with evident confusion. Something about his movement made Jessica wish the floor would just open up amd swallow her.

"What did you just say?" He repeated his question, taking a bold step towards her.

She batted her lashes, anxiety causing her to take a step back. But she told herself she could still change her words, give it a different meaning. So she swallowed and let out a soft chuckle.

Chris' brow twitched. "And what exactly is so funny here?"

"Why are you getting all worked up? What I meant was would you still want custody if he was not your son? If you had married me after I had given birth to him for another man, would you still want him?"

Chris still stared at her with doubt in his eyes, but he did not press further. "What an irrelevant question. Anyway, he is a sweet boy and I will still take him because I cannot leave you to raise a child, you would destroy his life."

Cara scoffed a laugh, folding her arms below her breast. "And you wouldn't?" Her thin brow arched. "Funny this is coming from a man who is going on a wild goose chase. Actually, no, this is more stupid. You are chasing another woman who is about to get married!" She flapped her hands angrily in the air.

"Getting married?" Chris' brow arched, questioning her words.

Another scoff left her mouth. "Of course, you didn't know. How would you know when you have been blinded by your greed and stupidity?" She muttered softly though audibly, rolling her eyes.

Chris felt like he had just heard the news of his mother's death. He wanted to go crazy, cry out, but he just stood there, lost in a web of thoughts.

Married? How? When? Why? With that bastard rich kid Armani? Why would she even do that? So she left him to get married to a wealthier guy? Was that it? Well not on his watch.

"That wedding... I will not let it hold. When is it?" He questioned, his voice had run cold.

Jessica groaned. "Ugh!!! For fcks sake! Chris just let this go! This unhealthy obsession will lead you behind bars or even be the death of you! You know how powerful the Armani family are! You are just going to put yourself and me and our son in danger! This entire family will have to walk on eggshells because of you! Stop being such an embarrassment!"

"Shut up!" Chris barked at her. "Shut the hell up! Don't try to tell me what to do!" He rushed towards her and gripped her wrist tightly. "Stop wasting my time and tell me when the wedding is!"

She sighed tiredly, why was her life like this? She wondered. Why did she have to be so unfortunate? "How am i supposed to know?" Tears built up in her eyes. "Just... How am I supposed to know? Do you think Cara and I are best friends? Huh? After what I did to her? Do you think she would wish to see my face?"

Chris pushed her aside, "useless!" He spat at her face. "You useless little btch! That's all you are and all you will ever be! Get out of my way, I'll find out by myself."

Jessica remained on the ground, not bothering to get up. She did not know how to escape from such a life, she regretted ever getting herself into it in the first place.

Should she just run away with Jayden and start a new life with him? Just she, him and Jeremy. But that would only be worst because Jayden was a man worse than Chris.

Jayden was too toxic. Chris was just a fool and hopefully he would come back to his senses and finally let his obsession of Cara go. She hoped Cara would marry and relocate.

Maybe she should even tell her! She sprung to her feet and reached for her phone on the sofa. Then Cara's words returned to her like a soft breeze, she would have her number blocked.

The phone fell from her hand and her eyes fell close as tears trailed down her face.

Romeo stared in utmost surprised, he had never imagined something like that could possibly happen. Ever. A sigh left his mouth, "I really wish I could give you some alcohol right now."

Cara let out a soft laugh. Emptying the remaining content of her cup down her throat, she let out a soft sigh. "Anyway, i made it clear to her so she would also pass the warning down to her husband. I hope I never hear from both of them ag--"

Cut off by the sound of her phone ringing, she let out a scoffed laugh as she saw the name Chris written on the screen. "Oh my goodness," she ran her fingers through her hair. "I am going to lose my mind at this rate. What is it with these people?!"

"Hey, calm down." Romeo stroked her cheeks softly. "Just block his number, all of it. Then if he tries reach you with another number, we'll get a restraining order and hire some cops to protect you."

Cara let out a laugh. "I feel like the female lead in a novel. When her psychotic ex refuses to leave, she has to get extra protection and a restraining order. My goodness, this is unbelievable."

Romeo took the phone and went ahead to block Chris. "You know what? I think we need to get away for a while. What do you say we stay at your parents for a few days? Maybe until the wedding even. Then we'll come back when we have to."

A soft smile formed on her face. "That would really be nice, and no phones please! No work, no disturbance, just peace and quiet."

"Uhm... I might need my phone but don't worry, we'll work it out. It will be fun. We leave tomorrow."

She nodded her head with an excited smile.
