Chapter 107 Now Everyone Knows
The Armani family-- Cara included-- along with their guest stared at Jessica as she dashed out of the room, ignoring Tori's call to her.
They could only wonder what could have resulted to such impromptu action. All except Giovanni of course. The look on his face was neither surprise nor pleasure. He was just simply staring.
Cara involuntarily rose to her feet and chased after her former best friend. She had not even expected herself to do something like that but she was already standing outside the room before she realized it.
"Jessica!" She called out to the runaway princess.
Jessica stopped and turned around, surprised to see Cara outside as well. She waited until Cara had walked up to her before she began to spit out without a second thought. "What are you doing here? Did you come here to make fun of me? Did you come here to let me know how much of a failure I am?! Huh?!"
"Calm down." Cara said softly. "You need to breathe or else you'll pass out at this state."
Jessica still did not spare herself a chance to breathe. "Why would you care? Huh? Stop it with all these fake acting! You are not a friend to me! Stop pretending as if what is happening to me is actually--"
Jessica was cut short by a hard slap to the face. It took her by surprise, she stared at the woman standing in front of her, only after a moment's breath before realizing what had happened to her.
"Did you-- did you just hit me in the face?" She questioned confusedly.
Cara let out a soft breath. "Good. You're breathing again."
Jessica blinked, touching her sore cheek. She did not know whether to get angry and hit Cara back or to say thank you. She knew she could have actually passed out from the way she was panicking.
She let her hands fall to her side and remained silent while staring at Cara. She did not feel like there was any need to show her appreciation to Cara, after all, they were now rivals.
Cara let the silence drag on for one more minute, hoping Jessica would have gotten more than enough breath, before speaking. "So? Want to explain why you humped out of there like you're running for your life?" Her perfectly shaped brow arched.
Jessica thought to herself, 'because I was.' But she did not want to tell Cara that, so she opened her mouth to speak but her head went blank. "I was... I mean I wasn't but I was... I was just..."
"You don't have to tell me if you don't feel like it but I just want you to know that if you walk away right now, it's really over." Cara's voice was gentle and hinted with sympathy.
"Why would you care? Didn't you walk out on me when I asked you to help me talk to Romeo? It would not have gotten to this stage if you had just helped me!" She spat out angrily.
"Because I wanted a sincere apology." Cara responded plain and direct.
Jessica blinked. "What?"
"For everything you have done to me, everything you are still doing and everything you are thinking of doing. I did not deserve any of it no matter how much I think about it and I still don't."
Jessica could not bare the heaviness of Cara's gaze on her. She shuffled from one foot to the other, not knowing how to respond to such a confession.
Cara took in a soft breath and breathed out. "Besides, how do you think you were able to get through to Mr Marcus Armani? He doesn't even know you, do you think he willingly gave you a chance to explain yourself?
"I did this because for once in your life, I want you to achieve something properly and actually pay for the things you have done. Whatever he decides, then you will know you actually gave an effort and the result will be your pain or gain."
Jessica' jaw dropped. "Wait, you did this for me?"
"Do you want to explain to me why you ran out or will you just walk back home?" Cara stood with her hands folded underneath her breast.
She looked like a teacher scolding a disobedient and stubborn student.
Jessica did not know how she was feeling, it was like a rose bud was growing in the deep dark forest. She hated it.
But what she hated more was the fact that she was explaining the true reason to Cara. "Your boyfriend's friend, Giovanni, I... Slept with him."
Cara's eyes widened. "What?!"
"Yesterday..." Jessica added.
"What?!" Cara exclaimed. She did not know how to respond, she scoffed. "Aren't you supposed to be a married woman? With a son?" She demanded angrily.
"So she has a son?" A masculine voice asked from behind both of them.
Thru both turned only to see Giovanni standing there. He was not smiling at first but gave Cara a gentle smile. "Hello again, our beloved fiancée."
Cara arched a brow at him. "I don't think now is really the time for greetings, Giovanni."
"Wait, fiancée?" Jessica questioned.
"Does it matter?" Cara asked her.
Jessica's eyes trailed to Cara's ring finger only to see a lovely engagement jewelry wrapped around it. She stole Cara's hand to get a better look at it. It was obviously very expensive.
Cara jerked her hand free from Jessica. "What the hell?"
"So you two are getting married?" Jessica questioned once again, finding it beyond hard to believe.
Cara saw the disappointment in her ex friend's eyes. She wanted to roll her eyes. "Are you kidding me? Does it change the fact that you slept with Giovanni?!" Anger hinted at her tone.
"She did what?!" Romeo came into the view just then.
Jessica's eyes widened. Now her secret was everywhere around the place. "How great! Who else will walk up to us? The restaurant's manager?"
"Do you need me, madam?" A man asked. He was walking along the passage way with a staff, giving her some orders.
Jessica flinched. It was the manager himself. "What the actual fck!"
