Chapter Sixty Five

Anger flowed in our blood. My wolf was enraged, she had remained dormant out of will for long allowing me to lead but not after what the Alpha of Emerald pack had done and the last of it was threatening her mate.

The rest of the Alpha’s men were beginning to shift and from my peripheral vision, I caught Nikolai doing the same.

“Natalie…” His worried voice rang in my mind as I ducked in time avoiding an attack.

“Don’t worry about me,” I responded before I backed off, breaking into a sprint and successfully luring the Alpha way as he came after me, all anger and aggression in his movement.

I dived down a path and I could hear the Alpha hot on my heels, barely a breath away from me.

He caught up with me, his body slammed into mine causing my wolf to tumble down and he was on top of me instantly. The Alpha of Emerald pack was also the head of the werewolf council for good reasons —his wolf was huge, a stunning brown-colored creature with an obvious affinity for brutality.

His teeth bared down on my wolf, tearing into my skin. I let out a yelp before struggling off of him, I stumbled backward and held my stance, snarling at him.

“You do not belong in this. Leave here while you can because I won’t hesitate to kill you!” he growled at me as I slowly began to circle him.

“No one threatens my mate. You brought me into this the minute you arrested me unfairly.”

“Lest you forget, you are no longer an Alpha. You won’t win against me.”

“I’ll decide for myself.” I pounced at him, grabbing him just in time before he could see the attack coming. A sharp pain radiated through my inside when I slammed against him but I knew he had it worse. His wolf was forced to slam against a tree and a cry of agony shook the forest.

I could hear the cries of smaller animals as they scurried away. The Alpha didn't take long before retaliating, he came at me again and this time succeeding, he once more got away with a bite. His teeth clamped down my shoulder.

Blood trailed me, tainting my furs and filling up my nostril.

I backed off with a limp and the Alpha came at me again. He was right, he had been right.

It was as though, without my position as Alpha, some of the powers I had had somehow disappeared. I hadn't thought of this and when I felt the loss of my position, I had no idea who had taken it up, it could be Theo and Catherine for all I know but I wasn't bothered. I had felt the very moment the Alpha position had slipped away but now I was feeling its full brunt.

With my powers, I had fought as an Alpha. The power had met with mine and had made me incredible but now that I no longer had it, I barely had the original strength I’d possessed before I became Alpha.

My breath was running out faster, my heart was pounding, and I was injured and losing a lot of blood too fast for my body to heal itself at the same time rate.

He was the Alpha of Emerald pack. He was head of the werewolf council… I was reminding myself of who my opponent was and why this might have been a bad idea.

I was no one.

Another bite and this time I stumbled over my own steps and when he sent a kick my way, I tried to dodge but his leg rammed directly into my stomach so that when I fell, I was unable to get up.

“Nikolai,” I called weakly through our bond but only silence met me reminding me that I’d left my mate with at least twenty of the Emerald pack’s warriors.

His silence unnerved me but I had no time to dwell on it before I received another blow again. This one sent me flying directly into the dirt, my injured shoulder touched the ground first and I let out a harrowing wail.

“You should have listened to me.” The Alpha’s voice filled with taunt reached me.

He attacked me again and this time when I felt his teeth graze my neck I was reawakened; he was going to kill me, he was going to kill me to exert vengeance and the only way to stop him was if I killed him first.

I was Natalie, without the Alpha title, I was still Nataloe and the woman I’d come to know for the last years of my life wasn't one who’d give up — especially not to a bully like this one.

He was mid-air, lunging at me again when my fore legs smashed into him, sending him flying off. I hurried to him and just before he could get up, I aimed for his neck too but he was fast, a little too fast because he was able to avoid it but not without harm.

My teeth snapped instead into his back, tearing past furs to rip out skin.

'We are going to kill him,' I said to my wolf.

'We are.'

And as though my words were the buoying up she needed because I could sense the shift in our fight now when the Alpha got up. It was now a fight between two equals, I stared down at him like I thought he was less than me.

I attacked this time. I got him by the ear and I tore it out first.

“You shall rue this day!” the Alpha swore but unlike earlier, there was fright and weakness in his tone.

Good!

I went at him again and this time I marked my aim, I grabbed him by the neck and sank my teeth into it.

I faltered. This was Ada’s father, Eleanor’s father, and…

In my hesitation, he noticed and made me do the same thing I was about to do to him. His teeth snapped slightly at my neck and I flung him off, forcing him to the ground before I instantly climbed on top of him, dominating him.

The last expression on his face was vile anger right before I tore through his neck, putting an end to him.

I staggered back up on my four feet… I’d just killed the Alpha of Emerald pack.

I felt the corner of my wolf’s mouth lift proudly.

'Good riddance,' she said approvingly,
