Chapter 61: His unusually gentle side
"Sir, even though you feel safe at her place, you shouldn't try to have other thoughts on that little girl." The therapist couldn't help but genuinely advise Vance. When Vance saw the message, his lips twitched. Why did it seem like the guy was accusing him of being a pedophile in other words? If it was another day, Vance could have ignored the text message. He needed his help, though, so he had to respond to him.
"I won't." Vance typed the message. However, he wasn't sure he would stop himself. He remembered how the girl looked so beautiful and small two hours ago when she fell asleep on the edge of the bed, he couldn't help but smile. Vance knew that whatever he was doing was definitely contrary to his character, but could someone stop the heart when it wanted something? He had initially thought it was just a fleeting emotion of concern, but as he kept on encountering her, he knew it wasn't mere concern. He had fallen in love with this petite girl. She was so small that Vance couldn't believe it when he heard that she was over eighteen years until he had to confirm. He knew she had been married before, and Vance wondered what made her get married when she just turned eighteen. Was it love?
Either way, he was not going to let her go. Once he set his eyes on something or someone, he never thought of letting them go. He knew he was being selfish. She was just a timid girl, but he still wanted to drag her into his dangerous path. The path of treachery. He would protect her. That was a given.
"So?" Vance was getting impatient. What was the therapist thinking?
"Give me a minute." The therapist typed back.
He was organizing the report at that moment. Five minutes later, he sent the report to Vance's phone with a text accompanying it.
"You can forward this to her."
At first, Vance frowned. But when he read through the contents of the report, he instantly understood. The plan was quite feasible. It seemed like he had to give some bonus to the therapist.
"Thank you." For the first time, Vance thanked someone sincerely. He was mostly sarcastic whenever he spoke, so that couldn't be counted.
Even the therapist was taken aback. That arrogant guy actually thanked him? This just meant the little girl he mentioned held an important place in his heart.
Ahh, what should he do? He didn't want his client to go to jail for pedophilia.
Vance stood up and headed to the study room.
"What's it?" Viola raised her head from the stack of documents she was reading.
"May I use your study?" Vance asked.
"Of course." Viola had no issue with that, as long as he did not touch her stuff.
Vance entered the study and took a seat across from Viola. He still had company matters to attend to, so he knew he couldn't slack off. Although he had a capable assistant by his side, he preferred making the decisions himself. His assistant was mostly in charge of executing them because Vance didn't have the patience to talk to people. The whole country knew about that, and he never even dared to hide his cold and bloodthirsty nature.
From time to time, Vance would glance at Viola's serious face. She would frown most of the time, maybe because of facing one or two problems, but the other times, she was only focused on her work with a plain expression on her face. The more he looked at her, the more beautiful and intriguing he found her.
Vance was so focused on his work at some point, and when he turned to look at her again, he found that she was already asleep. Her face showed how exhausted she was.
Vance glanced at her laptop. He happened to catch the issue about the stock exchange market. Did she know how to do stuff about stocks? Vance didn't dwell on that, though. He turned off the laptop gently before arranging the files that were scattered on the table. His movements were so subtle that anyone could tell that he didn't want to wake her up. After closing his laptop too, he carried Viola to the guestroom.
The housekeeper had just heated up two glasses of milk and was bringing them to the study when he stumbled upon this scene. After placing the milk on the table, she hurriedly opened the door to the guest room to help Vance carry her in . Deep in her heart, the housekeeper was shocked. What was the cold and bloodthirsty Vance doing in their mansion? Wasn't he known to be emotionless?
The housekeeper watched as Vance carefully took care of Viola and felt like she was seeing this. This definitely wouldn't be the legendary Vance, right?
Just then, Vance directed his sharp glare to the housekeeper. His message was clear: Get out!
