Chapter 54: Can we be friends?
Viola felt a pang of pain in her heart. She didn't know why there was that pang in her chest when she heard what Vance said.
"Yes indeed, I should steer clear of her. And I'm sorry to have intruded your space with her." Viola said sarcastically. She wondered, who was it that invited her over to that fortress, if not Vance? What a jerk!
"Hey, that's not what I meant. I-"
"Sir, if there's nothing else, I'll get back to my work. I have a lot to do." Viola cut him off. In other words, she meant that she didn't have the time to waste talking to him. It was clear that she was annoyed.
Vance stared at the hung up call and felt anger bubble up in his chest. He smashed the phone in his hand on the floor and stood up. He had no idea why he was annoyed, but he just knew that he was very much angry. He was so angry that he could kill anyone who crossed paths with him at that moment without blinking.
To vent, he made his way to the gym and found a punching bag. He exercised for so long until his knuckles bled, but he couldn't care less. His anger didn't subside.
After taking a shower, he called his assistant.
"Yes, sir?" Sam spoke as soon as he picked up the call.
"Send me Viola's schedule. " Vance instructed and hung up.
The following day, Viola had the cooks prepare some sumptuous meals for her parents who were in the hospital. She planned to pay them a visit. It had been quite a while since she saw them, and that made her feel unfilial. She had been too busy and sick that she had forgotten about her parents. After getting ready, she made her way to the hospital. She was glad to find that her dad was awake.
"Dad, mom." Viola called out as she entered their ward. She was excited. How long had it been since she had seen her dad's smile?
"You're here. " Her father said as her mother went to help her carry the things she had brought with her.
Just then, Viola spotted someone she never thought she would that day.
"What are you doing here?" Viola questioned.
"Oh baby, he's been taking care of us for the past few days. He's a good person." Viola's mum said as she placed the things Viola had brought on the table.
Good person, huh?
Viola thought to herself. She just couldn't tell her mother anything lest she worried about her.
After staying with her parents for more than two hours, she bade them goodbye and left the ward. She still had some business to attend to. Just as she was about to walk out of the hospital, she saw Vance again.
"Can we talk?" Vance spoke before she did.
Viola took a deep breath to suppress the frustration she was feeling at that moment.
"What is it?" Viola was getting impatient. She didn't want to have a lengthy talk with someone's boyfriend lest she was accused of ruining a relationship somewhere.
"About yesternight, I'm sorry." Vance said. He actually apologized. Even he himself didn't understand why he did that, but he just felt that he needed to.
"Fine. I accept your apology. I should get going." Viola nodded at him and turned to leave .
After taking a deep breath, Vance spoke again;
"Can we be good friends?" He really wanted to keep her close to him. He didn't understand where that weird urge cropped up from.
"No." Viola said without thinking. How could she befriend someone's boyfriend, especially after being warned?
After saying this, Viola continued making her way out.
"Fuck!" As Vance said this, he punched the wall with all his might, causing blood to splatter all over.
"Sir, are you okay." Some nurses shrieked and went to help him.
Viola was also startled and turned to look. What she saw made her pale in fright and remain frozen in place.
