Ninety Three

Ninety Three
After the council bowed and the tension in the chamber began to settle, Ezra turned toward Lira. The dark intensity in his eyes softened, just slightly, enough for her to see the man behind the prince… the one she loved, feared, and had fought alongside for so long.

“You’ve grown stronger,” he said quietly, his voice low enough that only she could hear. “More dangerous than I imagined.”

Lira smirked, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. “You think I didn’t train while you were gone? You were gone for a long time, Ezra.”

He stepped closer, his presence overwhelming, his dark aura wrapping around her like a shadowed cloak. “I know,” he murmured. “I watched from the edges, in the veil, and I saw you. Every move you made, every battle you won… every risk you took. You’ve changed, Lira. You’re no longer just my shadow… you’re your own storm.”

Her chest swelled with a mixture of pride and longing. “And you… you’ve changed too. Darker, harder… but still you. Still my Ezra.”

He reached for her hand, his fingers brushing hers in that familiar, electric touch. “I’ve seen too much. Lost too much. But seeing you now… it’s enough to remember what we’re fighting for.”

Lira leaned into him, feeling the steady strength in his chest beneath her palm. “I was so worried… when you were gone, I…” Her voice faltered, the weight of everything they had endured pressing down.

“I know,” he whispered, pressing a kiss to her temple. “I felt it too. Every moment I was gone, I was with you in memory, in the edge of every battle I watched. You never knew, but I was there.”

They moved together, hands intertwined, sharing a quiet, intimate moment amid the chaos of the council chamber. It was a pause in the storm, a moment of fragile peace.

“I missed this,” Lira admitted, her voice soft. “Just being near you.”

“And I missed you,” he replied, brushing his lips briefly against hers in a fleeting, tender kiss. “More than anything.”

They lingered in that closeness, the world outside…the council, the Siphon, the endless threats…. fading for just a heartbeat. Here, together, they could breathe. Together, they could plan, fight, and survive.

Ezra pulled back slightly, his forehead resting against hers. “Tell me everything,” he said softly. “Every move you made while I was gone. Every battle, every choice. I need to know how you became what you are now.”

Lira smiled faintly, eyes bright. “It’s a long story, but I’ll tell you… everything. Every secret, every power I’ve learned, every ally I’ve gathered. You’ll see how much I’ve grown.”

“And we’ll face the next storm together,” Ezra promised, tightening his hand around hers. “No council, no Morwen, no Siphon… nothing will stand between us again.”

For the first time in what felt like centuries, they allowed themselves to simply exist side by side, two warriors bound by love, loss, and a shared purpose that neither could escape. And in that moment, Lira knew that no matter what came next, they would face it as one… storm and shadow, blood and fire, together.

Ezra held Lira close as they stepped out of the council chambers, his hand resting lightly on the small of her back, guiding her through the corridors. The dark intensity in his gaze softened every time it fell on her, a quiet reassurance after everything they’d endured.

“Valen,” he called over his shoulder, his voice low but commanding. “Drive us to the penthouse. Make it quick, quiet.”

Valen glanced at him, a flicker of surprise in his eyes, but he simply nodded. “As you wish, Prince.”

Ezra led Lira outside, the city lights shimmering beneath them. The night was quiet, almost peaceful, a stark contrast to the chaos they had just survived. She leaned into him, the warmth of his body grounding her, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat under her hand a comforting anchor.

Once they reached the car, Ezra slid in beside her, and Valen took the wheel. The quiet hum of the engine filled the space, and for the first time in days, they allowed themselves to simply breathe. Lira rested her head against Ezra’s shoulder, feeling the tension in him slowly ease.

“I can’t believe you’re really here,” she murmured, tracing patterns along his chest. “After everything… I thought…”

“You thought I was lost,” he finished for her, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head. “I wasn’t. I never left. Not really.”

She tilted her head to meet his eyes, and he caught her gaze with that slow, steady intensity that always made her heart race. “I don’t want to let go of you again,” she whispered.

“You won’t have to,” he promised, brushing a strand of hair from her face. His fingers lingered on her cheek, tracing the line of her jaw with a feather-light touch. “We have time now… at least a little. Just us.”

Lira smiled faintly, her fingers curling around his hand. “Then don’t waste it.”

He leaned closer, lips brushing hers in a slow, lingering kiss, soft but charged with all the passion and relief they had both been holding back. Her fingers tangled in his hair as the car hummed through the city, the lights flickering across their faces.

Ezra’s hand slid to the small of her back, pulling her closer, and she pressed into him, letting the world fall away. For a few stolen hours, there were no councils, no battles, no Morwen—just the quiet intimacy of two people who had survived storms and found each other on the other side.

Valen’s eyes flicked to them briefly from the driver’s seat, a subtle smirk on his face, but he didn’t interrupt. He knew this moment was theirs, and nothing he could say would intrude on it.

The city passed by in a blur of lights, but inside the car, Lira and Ezra existed only for each other hands entwined, hearts beating together, and a quiet promise of more to come when they finally reached the penthouse.

When the car finally pulled up to the penthouse, Ezra paused for a moment, holding Lira close.

“Let’s not waste another second,” he murmured, and together they stepped inside, the doors closing behind them as the night wrapped around them, their own private world of warmth, desire, and quiet reprieve.
