CChapter45: Last Warning

CChapter45: Last Warning
Shadows hold darkness in them and one such shadow was currently staring at Mr. Smith “You might be able to prove your innocence in the case, but keep in mind that this is not the only advantage of this power!”
It was a rather cryptic message as the voice was robotic and seemed like it was pre – recorded “Show yourself you bloody coward! Anybody can say that they are tough, while hiding behind a mask, but it takes a man to own up to his deeds!”
The dark silhouette stepped closer to Mr. Smith, but the mask obstructed his view “Your words have no effect on me, Mr. Smith, so stop wasting your breath. This was just a warning for you, if you continue down this path, things are going to be very different and very difficult! Think of your family, Mr. Smith.”
“I will fucking kill you if you harm my family!” Mr. Smith grits his teeth coz he knows he cannot harm a hair on this person’s head! This whole fiasco of his case proved as much. He had to act carefully and not impulsively!
“Your daughter is a pretty little thing” the masked silhouette scoffed “This is my last warning to you!” Mr. Smith thought of his beautiful daughter that was currently divorced, and it was his fault!
Before Mr. Smith could answer, the dark silhouette of the man disappeared into the darkness of the room they were in. Mr. Smith was blindfolded and taken out of the room a few minutes after. They were in an abandoned factory in a remote location.
His thoughts went to his daughter, and he tried calling her, but Giselle’s phone was not getting connected, when he glanced down at his phone, he realized that he had no network “Shit!”
He started walking on the deserted road when he was hit on the back of his head and lost consciousness.
Giselle was glancing at her phone and pouting like a kid, well her little friend was observing her every move and was making sure that she was not given any sugary stuff to eat “Zana, come on! That man was just joking with you!”
“Well, you are not supposed to have too much sugary stuff and that is a fact, Gi” Tanner butted in, and Giselle wished she had a shovel that she could use to shove his head in the sand!
“TANNER!” she called out his name in a warning, but it did not intimidate him in the least.
“No scaring dada with eyes” Zana stepped in front of her and waved her little fingers in Giselle’s face. Giselle wished she could grab a hold of the man responsible for her current predicament! If Colton had just kept his mouth shut, she would have been happily munching on some cake with this little girl! Instead, she was being glared at by the very same little monster!
Giselle remembered how dominating Colton was, he had her cornered and with Zana on his side! He had made sure that she ate healthy food, or she would bear the brunt of Zana’s cute little anger.
When he dragged her to a table and made her sit down along with Zana, Colton had let go of her and gestured for the waiter to take their order. When the order was served, Giselle realized that the food Colton had ordered was light on her stomach but yummy!
"Are you going to eat, or should I feed you myself?” Colton had a smile that screamed trouble to Giselle, so she immediately grabbed the spoon and started munching on the food, it was surprisingly very tasty!
Giselle’s pretty little face successfully changed from white to red and black. She opened her eyes wide and stared at him, gritting her teeth, “Colton, what do you want to do? Why have I never seen you control me like this before.”
Hearing her mention of the time when they were together, Colton’s eyes dimmed slightly, “Because you used to be very obedient and well-behaved before.”
He said this deliberately. Of course, Colton knew that it was all just for appearance that she was deliberately talking about their past. Colton had never tried to understand her before, nor had he made an effort to know anything about her! She was always the woman that got married to him for the sake of his money.
Giselle rarely did things that he didn’t like, for example, smoking and drinking, and not being at home on the weekends. Colton’s only understood her as someone that seemed to be accommodating even when he went back to the apartment once a week, she never questioned him, nor did she ever say ‘No’ to him!
Colton had taken Giselle’s submissiveness and her obedience as her approval of this feeling that was slowly growing between them. But seeing how the divorce was her initiative, he felt conflicted!
Giselle looked at him, the calmness on her face was slowly replaced by disappointment, her eyes gradually ridiculed him, and she lowered her eyes to hide the pain he had caused her “Indeed, I was very well-behaved and obedient… I never back answered you or did anything that you did not like.”
Flashes of her memories of that life caused her heart to ache. Hugging Zana on her lap, she lowered her face and said coldly, “That was a different time and a different me, Colton.”
How could she not be obedient? She had loved him to bits even when he gave her no priority! Their marriage was made fun of by him when he turned it into a deal, an agreement of four years! In the past three years, she had been counting down the days and hoping in her heart that he would change his mind and finally see her for the kind of person she is!
Alas, that day never came, instead, Giselle witnessed firsthand his betrayal when he left her in the hospital ward and fucked his girlfriend in that very same hospital! She was living a lie and she was sick of it, she never realized that she was suffering every day of their marriage and was going to suffer a lot more if she continued to stay married!
She lowered her head to feed Zana and did not look at Colton’s expression, only a few minutes later did she hear the sound of his chair scrapping against the floor and his footsteps receded. Not long after she looked up and saw him bringing his meal to her table.
Giselle’s heart skipped a beat even if she willed it not to and her face changed instantly, “Why did I not find you lingering around me like this before?” She mumbled to herself.
Colton smiled softly placing his food on the table, “I haven’t noticed that you are covered with thorns, Giselle. I just want to have a quiet meal with you.”
Heaving a sigh, Giselle took a bite of her soup “Your lover would be waiting for you at your earlier table and even Tanner would be worried about us!”
Colton glanced into the distance with a look of melancholy “I just want to be quiet for a while.”
Giselle subconsciously followed his gaze and found Wanda looking around with her dinner plate in hand, as if she was searching for something, and Giselle knew well what or WHO she was looking for.

Colton’s PoV
“But your girlfriend...” I raised my head up and looked at her with my brow raised. She looked nervous at first, but nevertheless she cleared her throat and gathered her courage “I heard that you are getting engaged, so you should be accompanying your girlfriend and not sit with a stranger.”
My hands that were holding the fork and spoon froze at her words ‘How did she know about my engagement?’ “Are we? Strangers?” I chose to put the focus on anything but my engagement as I am still conflicted about it even though I said ‘Yes’.
“We are at best, acquaintance, Mr. Black. You don’t know me well enough to be called my friend” It is true, I don’t know much about her coz I never bothered to know her before.
I could not look her in the eye, so I turned to the little girl, she was not bothered about our talk and just kept munching on her food “It is all in the past now, Mr. Black. You have moved on and so have I” I looked up only to see her staring at the little girl lovingly “We were never meant to be together. It was a foolish decision of mine that got us tangled up!”
“Do you regret it? Our Marriage?” I never felt so small and nervous as I am feeling now even when I was talking to the most notorious of the businessmen. I wanted to hear her answer and yet I was nervous about what her answer was going to be.
“What is the point of regretting a decision that was mine, Mr. Black. It was my decision, my choice, my life, and I was the one who chose to do what I did! I can’t regret it now, it’s all in the past!” The way she said that without so much as blinking made me wonder if things will ever be good between us.
I could not take my eyes off her even if I reminded myself that she hates me, loathes me, hell, I am basically non – existent for her, and yet I wanted to be close to her knowing well that we would end up getting burned “Everyone regrets the decisions that cause them to get hurt, Giselle.”
“True, but is there a point of dwelling on it? It will only drain me mentally and physically” She shrugged her shoulders and continued to eat her food like what she said just now is not something that mattered.
I know I hurt her, but how do I make it right? How do I change myself? How do I make her believe that though I did regret the marriage at the beginning, I kind of stopped regretting it as time passed. I believed that if I was kind to her, she would take me for granted and leave me for another man, but I failed to realize that I was pushing her away.
