CHAPTER 111

CHAPTER 111
Hope you are finding it easy with work?
"Yeah, I don't do heavy lifting."
"Have you had a chance to discuss the vacation with your boss?"
"Not yet but I will talk to him before I leave the office. How did it go with Melissa?"
"Great. I will be going to pick her up shortly."
"Thanks!" Bonnie said before she could even catch herself. "Th Sophie's Daddy and it is my responsibility."
Sorry, I'm just not accustomed to people assisting. It's always myself or the nanny on her school runs."
"I see. I am here now and I'm sure you will get used to me assisting."
"Tiffany said I can bring a plus one tonight. Would you care to go with me to the dinner party?
Of course, already experiencing a panic attack over how I would let you attend the party alone."
Bonnie laughed.
"How was the doctor, Did you get through to her?"
"No baby, I only got through to her assistant who said she is booked up for today and that she would call me back on a date that we can come for the check-up.".
"Oh. Hopefully, she'll call you back soon."
"Yes, I don't know how I managed to miss it, but there is a sonogram at home. Will introduce you to it when I return, so you can see what your baby looks like in my belly"
"I'm not waiting."
"Don't let me break up your afternoon. We can talk later when you get back" "And don't leave without grabbing a really sexy dress."
Bonnie smiled. "I won't."
"Be careful, love you."
"I love you too." She hung up.
The rest of the day flew by so fast and before I realized, I was already in one of the city's finest boutiques searching for the perfect dress to wear tonight at my party. Once I got the dress, I paired it with matching high heels and handbag.
I paid for them afterwards then proceeded out of the store and went to my car where it was parked.
I tossed the shopping bag onto the back seat, put on my seatbelt, started the car engine, and drove off to go home.
It didn't take me long before I could sense a car behind me. My heart beat faster but I ensured I focused on driving.
Puzzled with whom to turn for help, I decided that it was best to steer clear of my phone and focus on the road.
I exhaled a sigh of relief when I no longer saw that particular car tailing me but my joy did not last long as a truck came out of nowhere in front of me. By this time, I knew there was nothing I could do.
"Daddy?"
"Yes, my love." J'onn turned his attention to his daughter.
"When is Mommy coming back?"
He smiled. "I know you miss her but she's going to be here very soon."
"Okay, I want her to kiss me before I go to bed."
"Are you getting sleepy already?"
Melissa smiled and shook her head. "I want her to play with me too."
Don't worry my sweet. She will arrive soon." J'onn placated his daughter. He was so damn sure that Bonnie was late because she had to drop by and do some shopping.
Melissa, on the other hand, was already in pajamas, getting more than ready to sleep.
"So I just wondered, do you have any name for your baby brother or sister?" J'onn couldn't help but ask his daughter.
The young girl nodded.
"Okay, go on then."
"If it's a boy, I'd like us to call him Matt or Oliver and if it's a girl, we can call her Elsie. She'll be sleeping in my room with me, won't she Daddy?" She gazed at J'onn with very hopeful eyes.
"Beautiful names. And if she's a girl, I'm sure you and her would eventually share a room when she's of age."
"Yes, Daddy, we're going to be best friends."
J'onn smiled with pride. "I have no doubt that you both would be."
He was interrupted by Gracie, Melissa's nanny who stood before them, looking very worried.
J'onn scowled.
Sir, I have to speak with you privately?" Her voice trembling as she spoke. "You have to come with me, Sir."
Even though J'onn didn't have a clue what was going on, he still did as told.
"I'll be right back, sweetie." He kissed his daughter on her forehead and left her alone on the couch to continue watching TV as he followed Gracie into the hall.
Something's wrong? You're cold?"
J'onn said when they were pretty far from Melissa.
"I got a phone call from Mr. O'Shea."
It took a while for the name to register in J'onn's brain.
"Bonnie's brother?"
Gracie nodded, folding her hands together.
"He said Miss Bonnie had an accident.".
What?!!!!" J'onn's voice echoed down the corridor, his chest thumping very hard as he gazed at Gracie who had tears streaming down her face with nothing but shock.
J'onn shook his head. "No, not possible. I spoke to her a few minutes ago as she was leaving the office. She mentioned she was going to the shop to buy a dress and then after that, home.".
"But it'side, Sir. Mr. O'Shea called me to inform me. He told me he is already at the hospital and he implored me to look after Melissa well until he is fortunate enough to come in to see her when he is discharged from the hospital."
"No, it can't be, not my Bonnie," said J'onn, still in denial. He shoved his hands into his pocket and brought out his phone, with shaking hands dialing Bonnie's number but it didn't go through.
"That can't be. Nothing will occur to my Bonnie. She's pregnant, nothing will occur to her." J'onn said, so much not wanting to lose his cool.
"I wish this were not true too but it is not. And Mr. O'Shea did not inform me how bad it is. He only said that he will be coming here to see Melissa after he finishes there."
"I am telling you because this is definitely not something to withhold from you. I do sincerely hope that Miss Bonnie and the baby are fine."
"Which hospital are they at?" J'onn asked with a very sorrowful heart, not believing this to be his new reality since he thought he'd found his happily ever after.
"It's Saint Mary's Hospital. It's very famous here. You can find the name on the map."
"Can you drive there or should I call you a cab?"
Gracie was forced to ask because of how lost he was looking. “I’ll be fine. Just please take good care of my daughter for me.” Gracie nodded, “I will.” “Thank you!” J’onn said, excusing himself and making his way back to the living room where his daughter was. The little girl was so unaware of what was happening that her attention was on the TV.
The moment J'onn got to where she was, he sat beside her and planted a deep kiss on her forehead. "I have to go pick mommy up."
"But why? I thought mommy was already coming home?" Melissa asked, getting sad. It was actually quite clear that she did not want her Daddy to leave.
"Yes, but she needs my help so I have to go assist her."
"Gracie will stay with you while I help Mommy, okay?" "You'll be back soon?"
J'onn nodded.
"Promise?"
"I promise, my love."
"Take care of Gracie, okay?"
Melissa nodded.
J'onn kissed his daughter's cheek before standing and departing, leaving Melissa in the care of her nanny.
When J'onn left the house, his eyes were filled with tears. But with great courage, he got into the car, entered the hospital's name on the map, and drove towards it in a state of mind and heart murmuring prayers.
Lastly, after what felt like forever, he was at the hospital. He dashed to the reception and requested Bonnie and was taken to the corresponding floor where she was being treated.
"You bastard!!! What are you doing here?" That ridiculously unnormal voice greeted J'onn as soon as he arrived at the reception on the third floor.
J'onn recognized the owner of the voice to be Bonnie's brother O'Shea.
“Babe, not now!” The lady seated beside him tried to hold him still but he shrugged his hands off her and got to his feet, approaching J’onn.
The floor was a VIP one so they were the only ones at the reception. “Get the hell out of here!!!”
“I’m going nowhere!” J’onn replied almost immediately.
"What the hell? Haven't you ruined my sister's life yet!!! If only she will listen to me and stay the hell away from you!!
"I have never tried to hurt her. Bonnie is my life and I will never do anything to ruin her. You can't tell me to stay away from the woman I love. I have a right to be here just as you do!"
No, you have no right to be here. All you've done is to cause my sister concern and trouble. Your mother almost caused her to lose Melissa and look at what's going on now? I promise you that I am going to kill you with my own hands if something happens to my sister.
"I know that you hate me but your hatred of me has nothing to do with me. It is pretty sad that you think I would intentionally harm Bonnie and my child."
