Chapter 49 The Life I Choose Every Morning
Adrian's POV
I toss on our king-size bed. I reach out to touch Darcy but it's empty and I groan. Lazily, I open my eyes and sit up.
A low yawn escapes my mouth as I rub my eyes gently. I scan the room and she's nowhere in sight.
"Babe?" I call out but there's no response.
My gaze shifts to the wall clock and it's eleven o'clock. Thankfully, it's Saturday and I didn't have work to do today.
"Baby!" I call but again, silence is all I get. "Where's she?" I murmur under my breath and stand.
I brush back the hair blocking my face and walk into the bathroom. She's not here either.
I wash my face with just water before staring at myself in the mirror and slowly, the corners of my lips tug into a bright smile.
There are no dark circles. My lips are no longer chapped and my eyes aren't empty. Tears sting my eyes. This past week has been the happiest I've ever been in a long while.
With Darcy, it's easy and joyful.
A lone tear escapes and I wipe it off. Blinking back the rest. They are happy tears though.
I wash my face again and clean the water with a face towel. Picking out a shirt from the closet, I wear it and walk out of the room.
It's been a week since Darcy came back with us and resolved our issues. I bought a penthouse far away from the old house and now we live there.
I want a drama free life for us. Darcy does not complain but I know my responsibilities and I do not plan to leave out anything.
Darcy and Hazel are my priorities. Anything can come after them.
If Darcy's not in the bedroom with me then she can only be with the little princess of the house.
I twist the doorknob of Hazel's room. The room was dimly lit. Hazel is sensitive to white light, so I did not turn it on.
It's almost noon and she's still sleeping. I tiptoed to the side of her bed and Darcy is beside Hazel.
Hugging each other like someone would come in and steal the other person away. Darcy and Hazel pout, both of them were fast asleep.
My heart melts at the sight of the woman I love and my daughter, being comfortable in their own world.
I take out my phone from my pocket and take several pictures of them from different angles.
As I turn to leave the room, I mistakenly kick the lamp stand with my leg and Darcy groans. I freeze and squeeze my eyes shut.
"What the hell Adrian?" She mumbles with half open eyes.
I finally let out the breath I didn't know I've been holding, followed by a smirk as I walk over to her side.
"Don't you dare wake my baby. What do you even want?" She frowns.
"Let me remind you that I'm also your baby. Besides I'm here to steal a kiss" I whisper.
I bend down to steal a brief, yet sweet kiss. Fortunately, Darcy wants more. Quickly, she wraps her hands around my neck deepening the kiss.
A minute in Hazel sighs. Both our heads turn to look at her and she's wide awake already staring back at us.
Darcy pushes me away like we've been caught murdering someone. I look at her as my jaw drops. Trying to understand what just happened.
Darcy ignores me as she carries Hazel. After a while she looks at me with a straight face. "What are you still doing here? My first kiss for the day belongs to my darling Hazel."
I tilt my head, ready to argue but chose not to after I saw the look on Hazel's face. She's not smiling.
I stand up immediately and rush out of the room. My throat is parched and my heartbeat quickens. I enter the kitchen and pour myself a glass of water, drinking it at a go.
Seriously? Darcy is my woman, but somehow Hazel has more power than I. The only time I get to spend with Darcy is if she's asleep or whenever she allows it.
Of course, Hazel still likes me as her dad but she loves Darcy. If I'm already struggling and fighting for attention, what will happen if we have more children in the future?
They'd probably throw me out of my house.
Wait... having kids with Darcy? It's the first time I've ever thought about it.
Butterflies fill my stomach and I grin sheepishly. I mean every word when I say I want to build something real and lasting with her.
I shake off the thoughts to continue later but for now, I have to prepare breakfast for the women after my heart.
Avocado toast for me, French toast for Darcy and waffles for Hazel.
I bring out the things I'll be needing. I should start with the waffles. I measure the quantity of flour, sugar, baking powder and salt, whisking everything in a glass bowl.
In another bowl, I mix the milk mixture and add it to the flour mixture.
Three minutes later, I'm done and proceed to make Darcy's breakfast when both of them enter the kitchen.
"Making breakfast already," Darcy flashes me a smile and I nod. I wipe my hand with a towel and walk closer to them.
I cover Hazel's eyes and plant a soft kiss on Darcy's lips. I lick my lips and she chuckles shaking her head. Damn, the taste of her lips is intoxicating.
"Babe," she calls and I raise my head to look at her. She looks sorry about something.
"Hey what happened?" I ask with worry filled eyes and she bites her lower lip.
"I'm craving something else? KFC saucy chicken sandwich," she says.
I smirk looking surprise.
"Don't tell me that the reason for the sad face?" I ask, raising my eyebrow.
"You were so thoughtful to prepare breakfast and it seems like I'm ungrateful," she pouts.
"First of all, there will be many more breakfasts that I'll be making for you. And if you ever need something, anything at all, don't hesitate to tell me. You're my woman and it's my duty to take care of you," I smile and kiss her head.
Hazel gets fussy, throwing her hands in the air dramatically. I face her and peck her cheeks too. After that, she smiles.
She's indeed my daughter. Jealousy flows in our blood.
I clap my hands, "alright then, let's head to KFC, after all Hazel won't eat if you don't."
Darcy nods, "we're already dressed. Are you okay with going out like that?" She asks.
What's wrong with what I'm wearing? I check my outfit again. It's a powder blue shirt and a white short.
"I'm ready too," I announce but Darcy looks unsure.
"Alright, tell me love. What's the matter?" I demand.
She shrugs and sigh. "Nothing. It's just that a casual fit like this one... for a man of your status," she says.
"I understand what you mean. This has nothing to do with my status, beside I want to live a normal life just like everyone else. Anyone can say whatever they like," I pause.
"I want to spend time with my family and I will do that comfortably. We don't owe anyone anything, babe," I add and she hugs me with teary eyes.
"C'mon baby, Hazel should not see your tears else she will finally throw me out of the house," I teased and she swats my arm.
"Meet us outside," she giggles, walking away with Hazel still in her arm.
With this experience, I finally know what I want to do. What I want out of life.
