Chapter 142 AUNT MIN
Chapter 142 AUNT MIN
Godiva POV
We had barely spent an hour at home. Dina was still fixing us a meal when my phone rang.
“Di, who's calling?” I asked from the sitting room where I was unpacking.
“It’s a strange number,” Dina responded from the kitchen.
“Alright,” I replied as I headed to the kitchen.
“Hello,” I said politely to the caller.
“Hello, you're speaking to Mrs. Young,” Mrs. Young said over the phone.
“Oh, hello... ma,” I responded hesitantly.
“Hello. Please, you're needed urgently at the mansion. I've spoken to your Mum,” she said, urgency evident in her voice.
I dashed into the Youngs' residence, running short of breath. The second I got in, I was welcomed by the terrifying sight of cops and a few people I didn't recognize hovering around.
“What the hell is happening here?” I muttered to myself. “Whatever it is, I need to leave now,” I continued, turning swiftly to go.
“Diva!”
Jenny's little voice called out excitedly as she ran toward me with her arms spread wide.
“Damn, why did she have to be here at this time?” I thought to myself, forcing a smile. “Jenny, honey,” I exclaimed happily as I picked her up and spun her around in our usual playful manner.
“How I missed you, kiddo!” I exclaimed, pecking her forehead with a smile that screamed nostalgia.
“I missed you a whole lot too, Div Div,” she said softly as I gently set her down.
“What is happening over here?” I whispered anxiously, bending down to her level.
“I don't know. Mom just returned with Jerald, and the house was thrown into chaos because the cops had been waiting ever since,” Jenny replied innocently.
“Why then am I being summoned?” I chuckled in disbelief as I stood upright.
“What did you say?” she asked innocently.
“Nothing,” I responded, faking a smile.
“Are you Miss Godiva Scott?” a cop asked, walking toward me.
“Ye... yes... yeah,” I responded, stuttering.
“Please come with me,” he said politely, leading the way into the mansion.
“Alright,” I responded, taking a deep breath as I held Jenny's hand.
“Excuse me, Miss, the young lady isn't allowed beyond this point,” the cop said politely, and I hesitantly let go of Jenny's hand, which had been a great source of comfort to me.
The walk from the entrance to the living room felt suffocating. I counted my steps as I followed the cop, my heart pounding loudly in my chest.
Walking into the large living room, I spotted Jerald sitting uncomfortably on a chair at the far end of the room. Mrs. Young sat beside a cop and Mr. Young, while seated on the bare floor in front of them, in handcuffs, was a strange woman.
I felt even shakier when Jerald locked eyes with me, only to look away immediately without a smile or gesture.
“Where's Ben?” I asked myself, looking around, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. Maybe seeing him would put my mind at ease.
“Hey.” Ben's voice came from behind, accompanied by a tap that startled me.
“Jeez!” I exclaimed, jumping slightly.
“Why so startled?” Ben asked with a smile, giving me a brief hug.
“Because I'm totally confused about what's happening here,” I responded, taking a deep breath.
Ben was about to say something when the cop who had escorted me in returned.
“Miss Godiva, do you mind if we ask you a few questions?” the cop asked, holding a pen and notepad.
“I really don't know...” I responded, looking lost.
“It's no biggie, Diva. Just tell them all you need to know,” Mrs. Young cut in, holding tightly onto Mr. Young.
“Miss Godiva, do you happen to know this young lady over here?” the cop asked, pointing at the woman in handcuffs.
Taking a careful look at her, I responded, “No.”
The woman in handcuffs didn't look familiar at all. She was an old, wrinkled Chinese-looking lady who was surprisingly curvy for her age.
“Do you happen to know if young Mr. Jerald was ever sexually assaulted?” he asked, taking down notes.
“Yes,” I responded hesitantly, looking at Mrs. Young to make sure I wasn't revealing too much.
“Miss, do you happen to know who abused him?” the cop asked further.
“Not exactly. I've never seen her before. All I know is that it was a scar too hard for Jerald to heal from. All he ever mentioned was her name—Aunt Min, his caregiver,” I responded more confidently.
As I spoke, I noticed Mr. Young nodding in disappointment while Mrs. Young wiped her tears with a neatly folded serviette.
“Alright, that's all for now. Thank you for your cooperation,” the cop announced before walking away.
“It's no problem,” I responded with a smile, heaving a sigh of relief.
“Were you scared?” Ben teased with a laugh as he handed me a cup of cola.
“If you were in my shoes, you'd have felt worse,” I responded, laughing as I took a sip of the cola.
“Want to say hi to Jerald before leaving?” Ben asked, pointing toward Jerald with his head.
“Definitely. I'm not sure if he told you, but we're back together,” I responded, smiling broadly.
“I guess that was the surprise he said he had for me when he returned. Too bad he got home to this,” Ben said, pausing for a deep breath before continuing. “Let's go.”
I turned to look at the Youngs. I wasn't sure whether to go with him to Jerald since I was certain Mr. Young—and maybe Mrs. Young—didn't exactly like me.
“Don't worry about them. They're obviously caught up in the moment,” Ben said, dragging me along as though he had read my mind.
“Hey, munchkin,” I teased playfully as I sat beside Jerald, who didn't budge.
“He's been this way ever since. I've tried cheering him up, but nah,” Ben said, shaking his head.
“You better talk to me, otherwise I'd kiss you in front of your dad,” I teased playfully.
“Just what I needed,” Jerald replied excitedly, pouting his lips for a kiss.
“The hell,” Ben exclaimed in shock, laughing as he walked away.
“You know I won't do that,” I said to Jerald, laughing.
“Can I at least hug you for a while?” Jerald asked cutely as he rested his head on my chest, his arms wrapped firmly around my waist.
“I guess she's the devil who exploited you,” I said, gently patting his head.
Without saying a word, he nodded soberly.
“You're strong, and I love you for that, my lil boy,” I said as I kissed his forehead repeatedly until he finally laughed.
“Are you trying to ridicule me by calling me lil boy just like Mom did earlier?” he asked, looking up at me.
“Oh yes,” I responded, giggling.
“Jay, I guess Dad already informed Lis's parents. Lis called to say she was coming with Hakeem now,” Ben said urgently.
