Chapter 132 THE VISIT

Chapter 132 THE VISIT
Godiva POV

"Yes, they got divorced. That was when Mr Mike moved back here with Hilda while Hakeem remained with his mum," Jerald explained with an affirmative nod.

"If Mr Mike left Mavic City since you were kids, are you sure he's going to remember you if we visit?" Dina asked curiously.

"Why not?" Jerald countered. "Back then, Dad always took Hakeem and me here for weekends and holidays. Even Hilda and I are close, just not as close as she and Ben," he added with a smile.

"What do you mean she's close to Ben?" Dina pressed dramatically, moving closer to Jerald.

"They practically grew up together, just the way I grew up closer to Hakeem," Jerald replied, shifting away from her.

After we cleaned up, Dina and Alex played a game of cards while Jerald and I lay on the couch beside them, catching up on everything we had missed in each other's lives since our feud. Surprisingly, Jerald didn't mention a word about what happened between Slosh and me. Instead, he told me about his boring skating experience at their park since he had avoided coming to our skatepark.

Alas, it was 2:00 PM, the time we had agreed to visit the Mikes. Jerald and Alex kept conversing while Dina and I changed into something less casual. We put on longer jeans, chic tops, and sandals.

We strolled to Hilda's house, chattering and laughing loudly, but fell silent the second we walked into the large, beautiful compound.

"Wow, so your brother and sister have been enjoying this much wealth in this beautiful house while you've been in the trenches," Dina teased in a whisper as we rang the doorbell.

"Just shut up, dude," I retorted under my breath, forcing a smile as Hilda swung the door open.

"Girls!" Hilda squealed, throwing herself at us.

We hugged for over a minute.

"What! Jerald, did you come with them?" she exclaimed, pulling him into a hug.

"Yes," Jerald replied with a grin.

"How?" she asked, looking at us in confusion.

"We are classmates, and she's my girlfriend," Jerald answered, wrapping his arm around my neck.

"Wow, what a small world! That means you know Hakeem, my brother, and Ben!" Hilda exclaimed, her face lighting up brightly.

"Hakeem is your brother?" Dina and I gasped in shock, pretending not to have known.

I almost burst out laughing at the stunned expression on Alex's face.

"That's really crazy," Hilda continued, smiling in disbelief.

"Since you know Ben, permit me to reintroduce myself," Dina announced dramatically. "I am Ben's girlfriend."

She finished with a theatrical bow.

"What? You're the mystery girl he spoke so much about?" Hilda shrieked before throwing herself at Dina again.

"He told you about me?" Dina asked, her face glowing with excitement.

"Of course he did. He described you as a rebellious junior when he started having feelings for you," Hilda replied, almost tearing up.

"I know you three are excited, but can you please suspend this and usher us in, Hilda?" Jerald interrupted, cutting our moment short.

"I'm very sorry. Come on in, everyone," Hilda said, stepping aside and opening the door wider.

"Why is the house so quiet?" Jerald asked, glancing around.

"It's just Dad and me, as always. Hakeem returned yesterday," Hilda replied as she ushered us into their dreamy living room.

The living room was as large as an entire block at the quarters. There were about three televisions, beautifully patterned couches, and a glittering fountain in the middle of the room.

"What a beautiful place you have," I managed to compliment, hiding my amusement.

"Thank you," Hilda replied, taking a seat beside Alex.

"How about Mr Mike? Busy as always, I guess," Jerald remarked with a smile.

"And who says I'm always busy, boy?" Mr Mike's voice echoed from behind us.

"Hello, Uncle," Jerald greeted with a smile as Mr Mike descended the staircase into the living room.

"Good day, sir," we chorused as he took a seat beside Jerald, whom I was seated next to.

"When did you arrive in town?" Mr Mike asked Jerald.

"Just yesterday," Jerald lied with a smile.

"Guess your friend didn't know you were coming. That's probably why he hurriedly left," Mr Mike observed.

"It was a last-minute decision," Jerald replied. "I needed to come be with my woman so she doesn't get snatched."

He pulled my head against his chest, but I forcefully pushed away.

"I know that. I caught all of your conversation by the door. I guess Hilda forgot to turn off the doorbell speaker," Mr Mike revealed with a grin.

"Wow!" Dina and I exclaimed, instantly becoming shy.

"That reminds me. I saw someone who looked just like you, and I almost thought it was your child. If I didn't know you only had Hakeem and Hilda, I'd have thought that was your child," Jerald teased with a laugh.

The comment caused all our eyes to widen.

"Probably just a lookalike. I don't have any child aside from my two darlings," Mr Mike replied, laughing hysterically.

As he spoke, my face gradually turned sour, and the atmosphere suddenly became uncomfortable for me.

I remained ticked off throughout the rest of the conversation. I just wanted to leave and confront Godmother to find out whether he was really my father.

I was sure he was.

He had turned pale before answering Jerald and denying my existence.

"We need to head back now, Uncle," Jerald said after we had spent over an hour interacting with Mr Mike.

"You all take care of yourselves," Mr Mike said, standing by the door after escorting us out.

"I hope to see you all soon," Hilda said, hugging us goodbye. "I'll get your contacts from Jerald."

"I guess Hilda knows nothing about his first woman," Jerald remarked the moment we stepped out of the compound.

"I guess so too. From the way he responded, he kept looking at her as though he didn't want her suspecting anything," Alex chimed in.

"So, what exactly was this visit supposed to tell us?" I snapped, turning angrily to Jerald, who had suggested the idea in the first place.

"I guess you weren't paying attention then," Dina muttered with a pale smile.

"Guess so too, because he mentioned they divorced because of something in the past when Alex asked about his wife," Jerald pointed out, gently patting me.

"Whatever. Where's your house?" I asked seriously.

"There," he replied, pointing toward a gigantic building a few blocks away from Hakeem's house.

"You go home. I'd come check on you later," I said soberly as I walked away, leaving them behind.

I guess he knew I wanted to be alone because he didn't insist on following me.

The moment we walked into the living room, I threw myself onto Godmother, who was watching television, and burst into tears.

"What is it, baby?" she asked in panic, looking from me to Dina and Alex.

Everyone remained silent and ignored her for a while before she repeated, more furiously this time,

"What happened?!"

"Erm... she... I think... erm... she may have figured out that Mr Mike might be her father," Dina stuttered.
