Chapter 40 Linus Faints
Olivia was also surprised. He actually denied wanting a divorce.
But it was probably just something he said for the sake of the family gathering.
Luca's tone was icy. "This is my home, and Olivia is my wife. You need to show some respect for us!"
"I..." Linda couldn't find the words, her face full of embarrassment.
Luca's tone turned commanding. "Apologize to Olivia and leave right now."
"Luca! I'm your sister!" Linda stared at him in disbelief, her eyes wide.
"And you, Windy," Luca said, his voice carrying a hint of disappointment. "From now on, you're not allowed to come here without my permission."
Windy froze. She couldn't believe he was taking back what he said earlier, right in front of Olivia. What went wrong? Luca's attitude had changed so drastically, showing no mercy toward her at all!
Windy lowered her head. "I'm sorry, Luca. I've disturbed you both. Linda, just apologize. Don't make Luca angry."
Linda didn't dare to cross Luca either. Gritting her teeth unwillingly, she muttered, "I'm sorry, Olivia." After that, she shot Olivia a fierce glare and stormed off.
Windy, with tears in her eyes, hurried after her.
The living room fell silent, leaving just Luca and Olivia.
Olivia's feelings were all over the place.
She didn't know what to say, and suddenly felt her body lift off the ground. It was Luca picking her up.
"What are you doing!" she exclaimed, grabbing onto his shirt. "Put me down!"
"Shh," Luca said as he carried her upstairs. "You look so pale. Why are you still pretending to be tough? Get back to your room and rest. Otherwise..." He raised an eyebrow. "You'll have to give me a child. Then you won't even think about getting out of bed!"
Olivia shivered in fear and didn't dare move.
Luca gently placed her on the bed and tucked her in.
He couldn't help but look at Olivia's face. She was usually stubborn or cold, but now she seemed a bit fragile.
Luca's throat tightened. Just as he was about to say something, his phone suddenly rang. It was the estate manager.
"Sir! Mr. Linus just fainted out of nowhere! We've called an ambulance, and he's on the way to the hospital. It doesn't look good!"
"What?" Luca's face darkened instantly. "Which hospital? I'm coming right now!"
Olivia sat up. "What's wrong with Grandpa?"
He hung up the phone and explained, "Grandpa fainted and was taken to the hospital. You..."
Olivia cut him off. "I'm going with you."
Luca paused for a moment and then nodded.
Olivia ignored her own weakness, grabbed a coat, and followed Luca out.
On the way to the hospital, Luca drove like a maniac, his face full of worry.
Olivia sat in the passenger seat, her hands clasped tightly together, extremely anxious.
In this family, the only person she truly cared about was Linus. When she and Luca got married, not everyone approved. It was Linus who stood firmly by her side, helping her earn respect in the family.
When her mother was still alive, Linus had always admired the tulips her mother grew. Her mother would pick the best ones and personally deliver them to the estate. Linus was always delighted and would chat with her mother in the garden. They were very close friends.
But now, this old man who had protected both her mother and her was suddenly in the hospital, and no one knew how he was doing...
Olivia's eyes welled up, and tears rolled down her cheeks.
Luca, while driving, glanced at her and saw the tears on her face. His heart ached a little. In his memory, Olivia rarely cried, at least not like this in front of him.
"Don't cry," Luca said, his voice softer than usual. "Grandpa will be fine. If he sees you like this, he'll be the one worrying instead."
She looked like a helpless child. "Luca, will Grandpa really be okay? I'm so scared..."
"He'll be fine," Luca said firmly. His right hand fumbled in his suit pocket, then pulled something out and handed it to her.
Olivia took it and realized it was a few pieces of fruit candy.
His tone was a bit awkward. "Eat some candy. I don't want you passing out from low blood sugar later."
She was stunned. Since when had he become so thoughtful? He was worried about her blood sugar dropping and even carried candy with him when they left the house.
Seeing she wasn't eating, Luca cleared his throat. "Don't get the wrong idea. I just don't want to deal with the hassle of taking care of you if you faint."
Olivia huffed, unwrapped a piece of candy, and popped it into her mouth.
Luca didn't say anything more. He gripped the steering wheel tightly and pressed down on the gas.
When they reached the hospital, they rushed to the emergency center.
The estate manager immediately came over, his face full of concern. "Young Master, Madam, Mr. Linus has been moved to a VIP ward. The doctors are checking on him now."
Luca frowned, staring at the ward door.
Olivia sat on a nearby bench, her fingertips ice-cold.
This time, when Linus collapsed, the manager hadn't told anyone else, only notifying Luca to avoid causing panic. After all, there were plenty of people in the family eyeing Linus's shares.
After what felt like forever, the ward door finally opened. The lead doctor came out and took off his mask.
"Doctor, how's my grandpa?" Luca stepped forward immediately.
"Please don't worry, sir," the doctor replied. "He's awake. This fainting spell was caused by a brief lack of oxygen to the brain."
Olivia let out a sigh of relief. But before she could feel relieved, the doctor added, "Eight years ago, he had surgery to remove a brain tumor. Although it was successful at the time, his immune system has weakened as he's aged. The risk of recurrence is higher than average."
Luca's face grew serious. "Recurrence?"
"Yes. Fainting is a warning sign you can't ignore. The next month is critical—we need to keep a close eye on him. He needs complete rest and has to avoid any major emotional stress."
"Is there a high chance it could happen again?" Olivia couldn't help but ask.
"There’s definitely a real risk," the doctor said, spreading his hands. "Emotional stress and external triggers are major factors, so for the next month, it's crucial to keep him calm and happy."
"We understand. Thank you, Doctor," Luca said gravely.
After seeing the doctor off, the two of them pushed open the ward door and went inside.
Linus was leaning against the hospital bed, awake but looking pale. When he saw them come in, he managed a weak smile. "I'm fine, just a little dizzy. I'll be okay after resting a bit."
"Grandpa..." Olivia walked to the bedside, her nose stinging with emotion. "You scared us to death."
"I'm okay, don't cry," Linus said, patting her hand gently, his gaze soft. "Seeing you two doing well puts my mind at ease. When you get old, it's easy to get sick. Don't worry too much."
He looked at Luca. "I don't have many wishes left. I just hope you two can have a child soon. If that happens, I'll be so happy—maybe I'll even get better."
Olivia and Luca exchanged a glance, both seeing the guilt in each other's eyes.
