Chapter 32
Chapter 32
Kathrine woke up to knocking on the front door a few days later. She had fallen asleep on the couch after being sick most of the morning when the guys had left for their pack duties. She groaned as she went to the front door and opened it enough to see through a crack. She rolled her eyes as she seen her mother standing there with Letha with what seemed like a million packages on the porch surrounding them.
"I'm not really up to visitors right now." She said as she went to close the door again but her mother's hand caught the door and kept it from closing.
"Don't be ridiculous. We're not visitors. We're your mothers." Lacey said as she pushed the door open and shoo'd Kathrine back from the door so they could come inside.
"What do you want?" Kathrine asked on a sigh then when she seen a pack member starting to gather the packages to bring them in she frowned. "Why is Jake here? You know Toby and Jarold are going to lose their minds when they come home and smell him inside."
"They'll smell us too. Don't worry about him." Letha assured Kathrine. "Now which room is going to be the nursery?" She asked brightly as Jake hovered by the stairs to be directed to a room.
"We haven't decided which room will be the nursery. I don't want him upstairs. They're going to freak bad enough having another male in this house. Just put the stuff down by the door. The fathers will take care of the stuff for the babies when they get home." Kathrine said and gestured to a corner of the living room close to the stairs.
"We just want to help you guys out." Letha said, trying to console Kathrine with a pat to the arm and gentle squeeze. "Don't be so difficult."
"Don't be difficult? Don't….be…difficult?!" Kathrine said disbelievingly the first time then screamed it the second. She didn't even feel bad when Letha's color drained from her face and she took a fearful step back from Kathrine.
"You and your husband have run rough shod over me from the very beginning of all of this. Given me and my mates absolutely no say in any part of this. Then you take it upon yourself to announce to the entire family and apparently pack that I'm pregnant without even discussing it with me first. Now, even though I was very clear the other day about not wanting you to do exactly this, you show up and call me difficult?!" Kathrine said advancing menacingly on her.
"Kathrine…." Lacey interjected in a consoling tone but was cut off by a glare.
"No! You're just as bad. You were right there when I told you both not to do this. That me and my mates would take care of this. These are OUR babies. Not yours. You will not run the show when it comes to our children. Get out of my house and do not come back unless or until you are invited by me and my mates." Kathrine screamed at them.
Letha started to say something to argue with Kathrine but by that point Jarold and Toby came through the door as their wolves snapping and growling at Jake and the two women. Toby stayed back and between the others and Kathrine as Jarold growled and lunged toward them clearly telling them to leave the house. No sooner than Lacey, the last over the threshold, had crossed onto the porch did Jarold nose the door so forcefully that it slammed in her shocked face.
Kathrine was panting in anger as she glared at the door as if she could still see their mothers and Jake standing on the porch. Toby nuzzled her stomach and licked her hand wanting her to calm down. Jarold shifted and approached Kathrine cautiously, unsure how she'd receive him at that moment. He could almost see flames in her irises.
"Kat?" Jarold called her name gently as he slowly approached her. Toby, still in his wolf, was gently nosing her hand trying to encourage her to pet him.
Neither had seen her in such a state of rage, her pregnancy hormones had made her very unpredictable the last few days and the twins were still trying to figure out how to handle her. A couple minutes and gentle strokes from Toby's nuzzle and Jarold's gentle voice calling her name finally brought Kathrine out of the red haze she was seeing. She shook herself and reflexively started petting Toby's soft fur as her eyes moved from the door to lock with Jarold's.
"Back with us now?" Jarold asked gently, though there was an edge of relief in his voice that brought her shame. She had clearly startled them in such a way they came in wolf form prepared to find her being attacked or something. She wasn't even sure what was being communicated down the bond if it was just emotions or words. But whatever it was they came prepared for battle.
"Your dad's gonna be pissed." She muttered as she felt herself starting to calm down and deflate her body. She had been on the verge of attacking and she didn't even know if it would have been her mates or their mothers at that moment that would have gotten it.
"We're plenty pissed too. You had very clearly expressed your wishes and they went against them. So he can be pissed they weren't welcomed all he wants. It isn't like they weren't warned." Came Toby's voice and she jumped because she hadn't realized he shifted back to human form.
"They brought a bunch of stuff for the babies." She told them gesturing to the corner where the packages were stacked. "Let me guess, what set you off was they were trying to get you to let them set the nursery up?"
Kathrine nodded and renewed a glare to the front door where she could still smell the scents of their mothers. She all but growled and bared her teeth at the door.
"Heeeey, stay with us. Getting this upset isn't good for the babies. Why don't you lay back down and try to relax. Toby and I will take these things upstairs." Jarold said as he cupped her face and gently pulled her attention back to him.
"Or we could all take the things upstairs." Toby offered as she gave a disgusted look at the couch.
"That is an even better idea. We can go through the stuff and see what all they brought and what we like out of it." Jarold said as he bent down to pick a stack of packages up.
"Ok, we can do that." Kathrine agreed as she followed suit.
