Chapter 89

Chapter 89
Ruby

Behind an old house the wolf suddenly stops, lowers his head and I climb down. I collapse immediately since my legs are numb from all the clutching I had to do. I'm glad though we are out of the forest.

The wolf transforms back, and I hand him his clothes. He then offers his hand to help me up.

“Where are we?” I ask.

“I think we will be safe here for the night.” He says calmly.

“Do you know this place?” I ask. Despite trusting him. I have a bit of worry, what if Möbius finds us? I don't want to picture what he will do to us.

“Yes I do, it's one of our training hideouts my pack warriors use. We build these so we can store food just in case anything happens while they are training. So I'm sure there is some food in there.” He explains. Pack warriors?, is he their leader. “You need some rest and food then I will take you back first thing in the morning is that alright.” He asks. I just nod, my tummy does the talking it's just rumbling all through. I'm hungry that it hurts. I wonder what kind of food they store in such a place.

The house looks old and abandoned, it's a house made of wood. Its porch is filled with dry leaves, it's evident that no one has been here in a while. He walks ahead of me, climbing the few stairs towards the porch. He then looks for something, I bet the keys, on top of the door. I can't really see well, though. Without my wolf I practically can't see a thing. Were it not for the moon, I wouldn't be able to take a single step forward.

Shortly the door swings wide open, and I'm right behind him. And sudden light shines as he switches on the lights. The inside is captivating. Everything seems so clean and neat, it's like someone lives here. There is everything one needs to survive. A couch in the middle, an American kitchen. A dinning area right next to the kitchen and even a running fridge.

“Wow” I exclaim.

“Are you impressed?” He asks smiling. It's the first time I've seen it since we met. He looks young maybe even younger than me. He is tall and muscular, and quite attractive. If my eyes weren't set for my mates I would have considered him.

“I didn't expect it would be this way. And by the way, what's your name.” I ask. I can't continue calling him 'he'.

“I'm Alfie, my lady.” He extends his hand to meet mine, but I freeze. Alfie… why does this name sound so familiar. Why does it make me feel warm? It's so strange.

“Miss… miss are you alright?” His worried voice brings me back to reality.

“Huh? Ooh, I am fine… I just…" I try speaking, but I don't find the words. “I'm Ruby.” I decide to just say my name instead.

“Ruby? Have we met before? It's just that I feel like I know you.” Alfie asks the same question that I have been asking myself.

“To be honest I don't really know.” He just shakes his head as someone who was in really deep thoughts before proceeding to offer me a seat. I finally feel okay after sitting down, my thighs were killing me.

Alfie enters the kitchen and makes some porridge with dried fish. It isn't that great, but it's better than staying hungry. Afterwards he offers me a place to sleep.

“Don't worry I will be awake the whole time.” He says assuring me to sleep. It's odd, but I believe every word that comes from his mouth.

It takes me a while to fall asleep, the couch is comfortable and the cloth Alfie got me to cover myself is warm enough, but the thought of Zama betraying me like that keeps me awake. I've trusted her all my life, she has been like a sister to me, I can't believe she did that to me. What could be her reason?

Why is my life this chaotic? I truly miss my mates, I wish they were beside me right now. I want to be in their arms so badly. I want to feel their warmth. I want Damien's literally hot body, I want Rowan’s chilly arms around me, and I want Owen's massive body shielding me. I want to feel safe, I want my mom.

“Hey, please stop crying Ruby.” Alfie's voice makes me realize that I've been sobbing. I feel so lost.

“I'm sorry, I couldn't help it.” I say as tears flow down my eyes quietly.

“I promise to protect you Ruby. I will make sure I send you back safely, so please trust me.” His voice so reassuring, his words give me a little peace. I fall asleep with ease after his soothing words.

A loud bang wakes me, I open my eyes to totally darkness. OMG what's happening, am I dreaming? I try to call out to Alfie, immediately I try to speak, a hand covers my mouth so tightly.

"Shhh! it's me Alfie, I think Möbius found us. You gotta be quite he can't enter inside the house is enchanted only wolves can enter." Alfie whispers to me. By this time my heart is beating so fast I feel like it will jump out of my body. Alfie pulls me so close to him and embraces me tightly. I want to pull away from him but my body is frozen out of fear.

"Calm down Ruby, I'm here I will protect you." He whispers. I can feel his breathe fanning my forehead as he rubs circles on my back with his palm. It makes me so uncomfortable rather than calming. It feels like I'm cheating on my mates. I regain my composure and pull myself away from him.

"I'm sorry Ruby, I didn't mean to disrespect you." He apologizes.

The shuffling outside grow closer.

"I know you are in there." Möbius shouts, I flinch. He is really here, What are we going to do?
