Chapter 15 pov
Seeing Kaelrix, my whole body trembled as memories flashed violently through my mind. My lungs tightened, refusing to breathe properly.
“What’s going on here?” he asked coldly, and Candice, who had been walking close to Versus before, immediately stopped. They both separated like two children caught misbehaving.
Kaelrix’s expression was frozen, clearly irritated by his brother’s act.
“What’s going on here? I don’t like repeating myself,” he muttered, his tone too cold and chilling. I sat with my head down, frowning so hard my forehead hurt.
“Don’t ask me,” I wanted to say, but I stayed silent, trying to keep myself calm.
“It’s Versus. He’s trying to stir up unnecessary trouble, meaningless and stupid,” Candice replied, his jaw clenched tightly. Honestly, I had never seen this side of Candice before, and a small part of me found it interesting.
“I’m asking what the hell is going on. You two shouldn’t get on my nerves,” Kaelrix threatened.
Jeez. My blood was boiling with rage. Who the hell did he think he was? I just wished I could slap him so hard that his arrogant face would reset itself.
“Versus wanted Elinra to be in his room when she’s clearly okay here. I mean, he doesn’t even like her. Only the moon knows what he would do to her,” Candice said, glaring at Versus with a deadly seriousness.
Kaelrix moved his lazy golden eyes to Versus and sneered.
“Really, you fool? You don’t like her, so why pretend you care?” Kaelrix asked sharply.
“And who gave you that wrong information?” Versus replied with a grin, unfazed. Kaelrix ignored him and returned his gaze to me, his eyes dropping to my injured leg.
Then he shifted his gaze back up.
“Is your leg hurting?” he asked, and I lifted my head slowly.
Really? Was he actually asking about me?
“Huh?” I asked, completely dumbfounded.
“Don’t make me repeat myself, donkey. I said is your leg hurting?” he snapped again, and the veins on my forehead nearly popped out.
“First of all, I am not a donkey. You don’t have the right to call me that. Secondly, I do not need your concern or care or anything at all. Now leave me the hell alone!” I yelled, unable to contain the rage burning through me. His face twisted in disgust.
“Who cares about you? Don’t feel special. I just wanted to know if you are healed enough to go through with your second punishment since you are a deaf animal,” he shot back.
Ouch.
My heart actually hurt. For a foolish second, I thought he was asking for my well-being.
“I’m not an animal. And if you force me to do any punishment again, I will kill myself so that someone like you will never have the guts to punish me again,” I snapped.
He chuckled coldly.
“Please, when you want to kill yourself, inform me so I can prepare a poison without an antidote, so you can die peacefully.”
Oh, so he was tougher than I thought.
Fine.
“Thanks, but I don’t need your poison. Staring at you is worse than poison,” I clapped back.
Candice and Versus looked completely puzzled as Kaelrix and I fired insults back and forth like two possessed wolves.
“I’m out. Please, before tomorrow, die,” Kaelrix barked, and stomped off, slamming the door shut so hard the walls vibrated.
“You know, I’m still wondering how you’re still alive. If it was me or Candice speaking to him like that, we would be digging our graves by now,” Versus said suddenly after Kaelrix left.
“That’s because you guys aren’t bold enou—”
“Shh. Next time you won’t be lucky. Keep provoking him and you’ll see your head on the floor. You should learn morals,” Versus cut me off before I could finish.
He walked toward the door with his hands behind his back, like some old professor, and left.
Leaving only me and Candice.
“You should be careful, dear. Kaelrix is dangerous, and no one ever knows his next move. I care about you, and I don’t want anything to happen to you,” Candice said softly, touching my cheek as he sat beside me.
“I’m sorry. I couldn’t help it. He’s so annoying,” I replied, and Candice chuckled.
“You’ve got quite a temper,” he said, gently caressing my cheek.
Kaelrix’s POV
I paced around my room, slamming my fist against the wall in pure rage.
She didn’t even let me check her foot. Is that how stubborn she is?
“How can someone be this stubborn?” I lamented, rubbing my temples.
“I wonder why you care about her foot so much. I mean, you caused it, so you shouldn’t care if she gets paralyzed,” Kai suddenly said.
I shut my eyes tightly, trying not to explode.
“Kai, what is your problem with my life these days? I would love it if you went mute for weeks or months like you normally do,” I growled.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t. Things are getting interesting, and I can’t leave the disco scene,” he replied playfully.
I inhaled deeply, ignoring him, but… what he said made sense. Why did I care about her foot? It wasn’t supposed to be my business. It wasn’t supposed to concern me at all.
Minutes passed, and I heard distant footsteps. Candice was leaving the room. Perfect.
I stepped out quietly, heading toward her room. The door was unlocked. I slipped inside, shutting it silently behind me. I strode toward her bed and found her sleeping peacefully… beautifully.
Immediately, I lifted the sheet covering her legs, and my chest tightened painfully. The wound was deep and ugly. Was I truly this evil? Had my hand done this to her?
I knelt and touched her leg gently. My healing ability flowed instantly, golden energy wrapping around the wound. The skin began closing, healing rapidly. Within a minute, the wound vanished, replaced by fresh, unblemished skin.
“Her hand too is injured,” Kai said, and I reached for her hand.
A deep cut ran across her palm.
Did she dig her nails into her own skin this hard? This deep?
This girl… she was something else.
I sat close to her, unable to help the small chuckle that escaped me. She looked so much better when she was sleeping. Her pitch-black hair fell gracefully over her face, matching perfectly with her red full lips and pointed nose. I tucked the hair behind her ear and couldn’t stop myself from smiling.
Wait. Was I smiling?
What was wrong with me?
Suddenly I heard footsteps. Candice again.
I took one last look at her face, memorizing the softness there, then slipped out silently and headed straight for the seer’s cage.
I needed answers. I needed to know what was happening to me.
