Chapter 391 The Unconcealable Secret

Isabella wanted to visit Rowan in Silvermist City, but finding a reason that Michael would agree to was a huge challenge!

She thought about discussing it with someone and called Kenna. Kenna's assistant answered, saying Kenna was busy but could pass on a message.

Isabella hung up and scrolled through her contacts several times, unsure of who to call.

Most of the people she knew who could help her were acquaintances through Michael, making it nearly impossible to keep it from him.

"Mrs. Johnson, we're home." Penelope, the bodyguard, reminded her.

Isabella snapped back to reality, surprised they had arrived so quickly.

Michael should still be at the office, giving her some time to think of a plan.

As she walked inside, she was startled to see Michael sitting on the couch, looking upset.

"Michael? Why are you home?" Isabella asked curiously.

Michael looked at her without expression, staring for a long moment without saying a word.

Isabella felt uneasy under his gaze and quickly forced a smile. "Michael, what's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Isabella, are you hiding something from me?" Michael finally spoke, his voice low.

Isabella bit her lip nervously. She was hiding something, but should she tell him?

"No." Her mouth moved faster than her brain, deciding for her before she could think it through.

Regret washed over her as she bit her lip and twisted her hands in her clothes, feeling guilty.

She and Michael had promised to be honest with each other, but here she was, lying again.

"Not going to tell me? Fine." Michael said, disappointment clear in his eyes as he stood up to leave.

Seeing the disappointment in his eyes, Isabella felt a pang of guilt. She chased after him and hugged him from behind, apologizing, "Michael, I'm sorry. I am hiding something from you."

Her sudden move startled Michael. He turned around, holding her shoulders and speaking loudly, "Do you remember your condition? You can't just rush like that!"

Isabella was frightened by his sternness and lowered her head, feeling sad.

Michael sighed, his anger dissipating at the sight of her distress. Nothing was more important than her well-being.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell. I'm just worried about you." Michael explained, sighing.

"Michael, I'm sorry. We promised to be honest with each other, but I hid something from you." Isabella apologized, feeling guilty.

"It's okay, I'm not mad. Just tell me what you're hiding," Michael said, his tone softening as he touched her cheek.

If anyone else had lied to him, he wouldn't forgive so easily. But she wasn't just anyone; she was the woman he loved.

"Can you tell me why you're upset first?" Isabella asked, needing a bit more time to gather her thoughts before revealing her secret.

"Let's talk in the bedroom." Michael said, scooping her up and carrying her upstairs.

"Michael, can you tell me why you're upset?" Isabella asked again after he set her down on the bedroom couch.

She had planned to listen to his issue, then use the opportunity to call Vincent from the bathroom and discuss how to tell Michael the truth.

But Michael surprised her by saying, "I already know what you're hiding. I can't believe you kept something so big from me."

His words hit her like a thunderclap. She wasn't sure if he really knew or was just bluffing.

Michael, seeing her confusion, took a deep breath and showed her a video on his phone that Terry had sent him.

Isabella was stunned by the footage and the conversation it captured. She had posted someone at the door to prevent eavesdropping but had forgotten about the room's surveillance.

"Now, can you tell me what you've been hiding?" Michael asked after the video ended.

He had a rough idea from the brief conversation but wanted to hear it from her.

"I'm sorry, Michael. I shouldn't have hidden it from you." Isabella apologized, lowering her head.

"Tell me everything," Michael said.

Isabella, head down, slowly recounted the entire story, from the beginning to their suspicions, without leaving anything out.

"That's the situation. But it's all just speculation; we have no proof. That's why I didn't tell you. Dad didn't want you to know either, fearing it would be too much for you if it turned out to be true." Isabella explained.

Michael laughed bitterly. "He thinks I'm as fragile as he is. It's one thing for him not to trust me, but you should have told me."

"I'm sorry, honey. I was wrong." Isabella apologized, reaching for his hand.

Michael pulled away and stood up. "Get some rest. I need to go out."

"Where are you going?" Isabella asked urgently as he reached the door.

"I don't know. I need time to process this." Michael replied, pausing.

"Come back soon. I'll be waiting." Isabella said, her eyes full of emotion.

Michael wanted to tell her not to wait up, but he knew she wouldn't listen. His mind was too chaotic to comfort her, so he left without another word.

After he left, Isabella sighed deeply and called Vincent to inform him that Michael knew.

"Why did you tell him?" Vincent asked, surprised.

"I forgot about the surveillance in the room. He overheard our conversation. I had no choice but to tell him the truth." Isabella explained, feeling guilty.

"Well, it's out now. With his personality, it was bound to come out. Isabella, is he mad at you?" Vincent asked, concerned.

"No, but he's very upset. He left and might come to the hospital to see you," Isabella warned.
