Ethan's POV
TORN BETWEEN LOVE
"Ethan, you know that I would never say things that are not true." He said convincingly.
"I am not saying that you are speaking out of point, but it's just that you don't have any evidence to back up your statement," I said to him even though I knew that he didn't lie, but I also knew that he and Veronica didn't really get along well.
"I just saw her coming out of Raymond's office. They were up to something because they both were acting nervous." Fleur said again, trying to convince me, but it seemed like no matter how he tried, I didn't seem to believe him.
"You are overreacting; what happened is something different, and she already explained it to me," I told him, looking at his eyes, but disbelief is all I see in his face.
"She had to meet up with him to ask for his help and that was all. So whatever you are thinking of didn't happen." I said to him, this time, not looking into his eyes because I know him better than anyone else; he is a hard-to-convince type.
"But boss, how come you believed everything she told you and you are finding it hard to believe mine. I went into the office, and both of them were scared that Veronica started to explain even without me asking any questions." He said looking more serious than he was before.
"It's not like that, Fleur. It's just she told me the reason why she went to meet him and you know that Raymond is a very good friend of mine. I can't just start acting per what you told me." I paused, I was getting irritated at the moment.
I had a lot of things happening in my life and my personal assistant is here talking about how he suspects my friend and my girlfriend planning to do something bad.
"I don't what it is between you and Veronica, but I think it's high time both of you put an end to it. Fleur, we have many important things to take care of. Now is not the right time to be hating on anyone."I explained to him.
"Please, don't make things harder than it is for me if you can't relieve me of my burden, you should understand the pressure I am under right now," I exclaimed,
"Boss, I don't have a good feeling about their meeting In private, but since you said she already told you what her visit to his office is, I shall drop this case now." He said with a clear but distant voice; he sounded very cold at that moment.
"Thanks for your concern; I appreciate it," I said and got serious.
"So any information about Marinette??!" I asked him,
"No. I can't get hold of anything; she seems to have gone very far away from here. But I am still on it." He said, his voice laced with disappointment.
"I get it. Don't be so harsh on yourself. She might probably still be around, but you know her that she is someone who can stay indoors for long, and I guess everything that happened is still maybe causing damage to her." I said regretting both verbally and inwardly.
"How could I ever go of someone that precious? She truly is a rare gem, and I have to get my hands on her again, no matter what it takes. And this time I would treat her well and show her the love that she deserves from the start." I vowed inwardly to myself.
I stood up, headed to the large glass wall in front of me, and looked far into the city. It was a nice sight to behold, especially now that my head needs to be calmed down.
"Uhmmn... Boss, I have a question I'd like to ask you if you don't mind??" He asked raising his brows.
"Okay ask," I replied with a stern voice.
"When do you plan to marry Veronica?!" He asked sincerely.
Fleur's question caught me off guard. We weren't talking about my love life with her here, and my expression changed in an instant.
My eyes widened, and my face paled as if I had been punched in the gut. I looked like I had been confronted with a possibility that I had been trying to avoid. Actually, I have been trying to avoid it
My mouth opened, but no words came out. I fumbled for a response, my eyes darting back and forth as if searching for an escape route. I looked like a trapped animal, desperate to find a way out.
"Ah...I...uh..." I stuttered, my voice barely above a whisper. I looked like he was struggling to breathe as if the question had sucked the air out of me.
Fleur's eyes narrowed, his gaze piercing as he watched my reaction. He seemed to sense that there was more to my response than met the eye, and he leaned in, his voice taking on a curious tone.
"Ethan, what's wrong?" Fleur asked, his words dripping with concern. "You look like you've seen a ghost."
Confusion filled my head because I was hoping nobody asked me that question.
The realization hit me like a ton of bricks. I had been so caught up in the idea of being with Veronica, of trying to make our relationship work, that I had never actually stopped to think about the future.
And now, faced with Fleur's question, I was forced to confront the truth: I had never really planned to marry Veronica.
The thought of getting married to her had never crossed my mind, not even for a moment.
I had been too busy trying to navigate the ups and downs of our relationship, too focused on trying to make things work between us.
But now, as I stood there, I couldn't shake the feeling that I had been living in a state of denial.
I had been pretending that everything was fine, that Veronica and I were on the same page, when, in reality, I had been ignoring the fact that I didn't see a future with her.
It was a sobering realization, one that made me feel both relieved and anxious at the same time.
Relieved, because I finally dared to admit the truth to myself. Anxious, because I knew that I had to confront Veronica with this truth, and I had no idea how she would react.
I felt like I was torn between two worlds. I don't know if I had feelings for Veronica anymore, but one thing was for sure: Without Marinette in my life, I am not okay.
I need her in my life. Fleur kept on staring at me. He seemed to have many things to say, but he wasn't saying anything.
"Boss, I guess I better head outside to see if I can do something else. But I have to tell you this, don't let your feelings be cowered. " He said and left without my reply.
I was alone in my office, I didn't know what to do now. I wish Veronica could just get out of the picture and I could get Marinette back.
"I hope you are fairing well wherever you are. I miss you." I said to myself loud and clear.
