Fifty Three
Fifty Three
Marinette's POV
CAUGHT IN HER OWN TRAP
As soon as Lucy asked the question, my mind flashed back to my earlier realization that Lucy had feelings for Terry. I just confirmed my guess.
I knew that Lucy was trying to fish for information, to see if there was any romantic connection between me and Terry.
My instincts kicked in, and I quickly responded with a firm voice, trying to shut down any speculation. "No, Lucy, nothing is going on between Terry and me. He's just my teacher and a close friend."
My tone was deliberate, trying to convey a sense of finality and clarity. I didn't want to give Lucy any reason to think that there was something more between me and Terry.
Lucy's eyes narrowed slightly, her gaze piercing as she searched my face for any signs of deception.
But my expression remained neutral, my eyes locked onto Lucy's with a steady gaze.
"You expect me to believe you?! I see the way you look at him and why are you not talking?! Terry isn't here to support you huh?!" She said with a hint of mockery in her voice.
My voice rang out clear and strong as I stood up for myself. "I don't want to stand here dumb, but since Terry isn't here to speak for himself, I'll speak for myself," I said, her eyes flashing with indignation.
"Terry doesn't support me. He only speaks the truth and he is not a property to be owned, Lucy. He's a person with his thoughts and feelings. And besides, he didn't say anything about you, so don't you dare shout at me!"
My words hung in the air, a clear rebuke to Lucy's outrageous behavior.
I stood tall, my shoulders squared, and my eyes blazing with defiance. I wasn't going to let Lucy bully me or claim ownership over Terry.
Lucy's face turned red with rage, and she took a step forward, her hands clenched into fists. But I didn't back down. I stood my ground, my eyes locked onto Lucy's, daring her to come closer.
The air was thick with tension, the silence between them palpable. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, but I refused to back down.
I was standing up for myself and Terry, and I wouldn't let Lucy's tantrums intimidate me.
Lucy's face twisted in a snarl as she spat out her words. "I don't believe anything you say, Marinette," she sneered. "You're just a pathetic little liar trying to get attention. And if you don't stay away from Terry, I'll make your life a living hell."
My eyes flashed with anger, but I refused to back down. I stood tall, my head up and my voice steady. "I'm not afraid of you, Lucy," I said, my words dripping with defiance. "You can't intimidate me or threaten me. I am not going to back down or stay away from Terry just because you're jealous. He is my close friend, and I don't know if you seem to notice, but, he is also my teacher and boss."
Lucy's face turned red with rage, and she took a step closer to me, her hands clenched into fists. "You think you're so smart, don't you?" Lucy spat. "But you have no idea what I'm capable of. I'll ruin your reputation, I'll sabotage your relationships, and I'll make sure you regret ever crossing me."
My heart was racing, but I refused to back down. I knew that Lucy was trying to intimidate me, but I wasn't going to let it work.
I stood my ground, my eyes locked onto Lucy's, and my voice steady. "Bring it on, Lucy," I said, my words dripping with defiance once again."I'm not afraid of you."
Just as Lucy was about to respond to my defiance, Terry walked into the room, his eyes scanning the tense atmosphere. "What's going on here?" he asked, his voice calm but authoritative.
Lucy's expression changed in an instant, her anger and hostility replaced by a sugary sweet smile. "Oh, Terry, darling," she cooed, "I was just having a lovely conversation with Marinette. We were just discussing some intercontinental dishes."
My eyes rolled in disgust at Lucy's blatant lie, but Terry's expression remained neutral, his eyes narrowing slightly as he looked at Lucy. "Is everything okay here?" he asked again, his voice firm but polite.
I opened my mouth to respond, but Lucy beat me to it. "Everything's fine, Terry," Lucy said, her voice dripping with sincerity. "I was just about to leave, anyway. It was so lovely speaking with Marinette."
Terry's eyes flicked to me, and I could see the question in his eyes. What was going on here? But before I could respond, Lucy was about to walk out of the room, a sweet smile still plastered on her face.
"You know, you should wait to see the dishes. They are nice." Terry said while smiling at her
"Okay, if that's what you want." She said and started coming back inside.
As Terry instructed that the prepared dishes be served, I turned to head towards the kitchen and brought out one of the dishes it was piping hot, but before I could take a step, Lucy intentionally bumped hard into me, causing me to stumble.
As the dishes fell from my hands, I felt a surge of panic, worried that I would be the one to get hurt. Instead, the hot contents of the dishes spilled all over Lucy's hand, causing her to shriek in pain.
"Ah! My hand!" Lucy cried, clutching her injured hand to her chest.
My eyes widened in shock, but I couldn't help feeling a twinge of satisfaction. After all, Lucy had been trying to intimidate and manipulate me all the time.
Terry rushed to my side, concern etched on his face. "Marinette, are you okay? Let me help you."
But as Terry reached out to take my hand, I couldn't help but notice that Lucy's expression had changed. Her eyes had narrowed, and her face had twisted into a scowl.
"Terry, that lowlife just burned me and you are helping her?!" Lucy asked hissing, her voice low and menacing.
I felt a shiver run down my spine. I knew that I had just made an enemy, and I wondered what Lucy would do next.
Lucy's face turned red with rage as she glared at me, her voice rising to a shrill pitch. "You did this on purpose, didn't you?" Lucy accused, her eyes blazing with anger. "This was all a scheme, a clever trick to hurt me and make me look foolish."
My eyes widened in shock as she took a step back, my hands raised in defense. "No, Lucy, that's not true," I protested. "It was an accident, I swear. I didn't mean for the dishes to fall and spill on you."
But Lucy was beyond reason. She was convinced that I had deliberately tried to hurt her, and she was determined to make sure everyone knew about it.
"You're evil, Marinette," Lucy spat, her voice venomous. "You're a manipulative, deceitful person who will stop at nothing to get what you want. And what you want is to hurt me and ruin my reputation."
Terry stepped forward, his voice calm and authoritative. "Lucy, that's enough," he said. "This is getting out of hand. Marinette didn't mean to hurt you, and it's time to calm down and apologize."
"What do you mean Terry?! I am hurting here and you are there acting as if she is the one that was hurt."Lucy shouted,
"Terry, go and attend to her. I am just fine, and she seems more like she needs help," I said to Terry.
"I decide who I want to be with, and besides it's just a light burn," Terry said, staring down at me.
