Bonds Intrusion

My heart surged, relief flooding me as Matilda's eyes fluttered open, her awakening pulling me from my vigil by her bedside, my hands gripping hers gently, my clothes slightly wrinkled from hours of waiting.
She's awake. The sight of her stirred my soul, my gratitude overwhelming, the coincidence of her recovery right after my own feeling like a twist of fate binding us closer.
I leaned in, my arms wrapping her tightly, my voice a soft whisper. "Thank you for everything." My words were heavy with emotion, my eyes locked on hers, gratitude shining.
We pulled apart, her smile bright, her silence sparking curiosity in me. Why is she so quiet?
"How do you feel?" I asked, my tone warm, concern evident, my hands resting on my knees.
Her voice came, gentle, her smile unwavering. "I'm fine now. I'm just glad you're awake and seem okay."
Her words warmed me, my heart easing, but questions lingered. "I heard from your aunt. It was a huge risk. Were you sure of my feelings?" My voice was soft, my gaze searching.
She nodded, her eyes steady, her voice firm. "I felt it deep inside that you love me. I was ready to risk everything, even if you didn't."
Her confession hit hard, my breath catching. She loves me that much? My heart swelled, a fierce resolve igniting, to protect her, to fight for her, no matter the cost.
She'd risked her life for me, a sacrifice I'd never forget. Why does fate keep testing us?
The door opened, Aunt Helen entering, her face lighting up. "Thank the spirits you're awake!" she exclaimed, rushing to hug Matilda, her arms tight, her joy infectious.
I stepped back, my smile soft, watching their reunion, my heart warmed by their bond.
Helen's voice broke through, her tone cheerful. "I brought homemade food. You both need to eat to regain strength." Her words stirred memories of my mother, long gone, my chest tightening with nostalgia.
I sat beside Matilda, our hands sharing the meal, my fork moving slowly, the act intimate, unfamiliar.
When was the last time I shared a plate? Years ago, with my parents, before they were taken.
The warmth of the moment soothed me, my guard lowering, my Alpha aura softened by her presence.
Helen's voice shifted, serious, pulling our attention. "I need to talk to you both." Her tone was grave, her eyes intense, and we turned to her, my posture straightening, my curiosity piqued.
"I had an encounter, not a dream, but a warning," she said, her words heavy. "Alpha, you promised to handle things, but don't you think war will come because of you two?"
Her question pierced me, my breath steadying, her concern mirroring my own fears. She's right, trouble is coming.
"Yes, some will oppose us, but I'm choosing myself for once," I said, my voice firm, my gaze steady.
"I've always put the pack first, sacrificing my happiness. This time, I choose Matilda." My declaration was bold, my heart set, my eyes flicking to her, her silence heavy with emotion.
Why is she so quiet? Helen nodded, her smile approving.
"Stick together, fight for each other. That's your only way to survive." Her advice was firm, my resolve strengthening.
Matilda turned to me, her voice steady. "I'll fight with you, for us. Just lead, and I'll follow." Her words fueled me, my arms pulling her into another hug, her strength anchoring me.
Why does she trust me so completely? The door swung open, shattering the moment, and a familiar voice rang out, chilling my spine.
"Good morning, Mr. McAllister and Ms. Lawson!" Inspector Harrison greeted, his grin wide, his presence unexpected.

Unease swirling as I sat up on the hospital bed, my hands gripping the edge, my blouse slightly creased from lying down.
Inspector Harrison's sudden arrival jolted me, his grin unsettling, his presence an intrusion.
Why is he here now? The coincidence of his appearance, right after our emotional moment, felt like a deliberate twist from the universe, testing our resolve.
I forced a smile, my voice gentle. "Good morning, Inspector Harrison." My greeting was polite, masking my worry, my eyes flicking to Blake, his posture calm.
Harrison's gaze shifted to Aunt Helen, his tone probing.
"I heard about the shooting near your place and checked your apartment. Were you not told?" Helen's face softened, her voice calm.
"My apologies, I forgot to mention. She hasn't been well." Her excuse was smooth, but Harrison's eyes narrowed, suspicion clear.
"Last time, you said she wasn't home, and now she's unwell in the hospital." His words dripped with doubt, my pulse quickening.
Someone's feeding him information. Before I could speak, Blake's voice cut through, sharp and commanding, his Alpha aura radiating, his eyes blazing.
"Is there a schedule for falling ill, Inspector?" His question was bold, his irritation evident, his hands clenching.
Harrison grinned, unfazed, his tone casual. "I'm here to check something. I heard you were both at the shooting, and you, Mr. McAllister, were hit."
My breath caught, fear spiking. He knows too much. My mind raced, worry mounting, the bullet's mark a secret we couldn't reveal.
"Aren't you invading our privacy with unverified claims?" I asked, my voice steady, courage hiding my panic, my hands folding tightly.
Harrison's grin widened, his confidence unshaken. "That's why I'm here, to verify."
My heart sank, his certainty unnerving, but Blake spoke, his tone defiant, his gaze piercing. "Where did your source say I was hit?"
Harrison laughed, stepping closer, his voice firm. "I'm not checking just one spot. I'm examining all of you."
My voice rose, sharp. "You have no right, Inspector."
Blake's eyes gleamed, his tone unwavering. "I'll show you what you want, but you'll face consequences."
My fear surged, knowing his wound hadn't fully healed, my hands trembling. He reached for his shirt, his movements bold, when the doctor entered, his voice stern.
"What's happening here?" Harrison shrugged, casual. "Just taking a look."
The doctor's gaze hardened, his tone commanding. "Do you have a warrant?" Harrison hesitated, his confidence faltering, and the doctor stepped closer, his voice firm.
"Leave now." Harrison turned, his grin returning, his voice taunting. "McAllister, I'll see you around." He walked away.
