Chapter 64 - The Poison
~~~ Allaya ~~~
I snuggle in his arms, enjoying the feeling of Hayden’s naked skin against mine. We made love over and over again, after our little discussion about who should be the Alpha King. I’m aware he is still thorned about that, but pleasuring him seemed to have done the trick, at least for the moment.
“A werewolf pregnancy is three months long.” He whispers, sucking the skin on my neck.
My heartbeats are quickening. “W-why are you telling me that?” I push him aside with more strength than I meant to, slamming him into the wall.
He chuckles. “Easy, tiger! Why do you want to break my bones?”
“Sorry!” I show him the power of my puppy’s eyes, and it works.
“I meant, whenever you feel ready, I would love to have a small version of you.”
I confess that his words took me by surprise. The blood rushes to my cheeks, they are burning and I’m sure I look like a tomato.
“Y-you can’t know how much a hybrid pregnancy would take.”
Really, Allaya? THAT was your comeback line? You might have given him the wrong idea.
‘Is it wrong for him to believe you would love that as well?’ Pandora finds the worst moment to invade my thoughts.
When I don’t give her a response, she carries on. ‘I like him, he looks at us like he would worship us for the rest of his life. I bet he’d make a great father.’
‘Ohh, please!! You like Maddox!’
‘That too, and I won’t be a hypocrite as you are to not admit that I want to have his pups.’
My eyes find Hayden’s and there is so much love reflected in them, I feel that we could conquer the world together. Even though raising a baby seems much more difficult than winning a war, my heart agrees.
“I.. I’d love to have a small version of you as well.”
I don’t finish talking when he lifts my body in his arms and starts spinning me in the air, I laugh holding on to him.
“Put me down, I’m getting dizzy!”
“Your wish is my command!”
There is too much happiness racing through my veins, and I have that bad feeling I cannot explain. Like it’s too good to be true, and something bad is about to happen to burst our bubble.
“Don’t drift away, my love!” His fingers lift my chin, air leaves my lungs as I meet the hunger in his eyes. “Instead, let's work on making that baby!”
His lips touch mine, and I close my eyes to relish in the moment. My breath hitches as I feel his hand sliding in between my legs, cupping my pussy. There are so many emotions rushing through my body as he rubs my clit, then dives a finger inside my wet core.
I am thirsty for more. Much more.
He deepens the kiss, devouring my mouth, I drag him to the bed, but he decides against it. Instead, he grabs my ass and pushes me to the nearest wall, turning me on even more, I feel like I’m going to go crazy.
I enclose him between my legs, slide a hand between our bodies and grab his hard veiny cock. I caress it between my fingers guiding it to my opening, then I grip his ass and push myself in it.
Oh, dear God, this feels so good!
There is no way I would ever grow tired of having him inside me, I roll my eyes in pleasure and hold onto his shoulders. Our moans fill the room as he slams in and out of me, over and over again, until we get our release, and he fills me with his seed.
“I love you so much, Allaya! Give me a few minutes and we’ll go again!”
I don’t have time to enjoy his words as the rotten smell of death is tainting the air, and hair-rising vibes are impossible to ignore.
‘She is here.’ Pandora cuts into my thoughts. ‘Your sister is here and she already killed tons of vampires.’
“Hayden, get dressed! There’s trouble coming our way!”
I teleported to the Council castle immediately after that human told me everything he deemed to be useful.
Elena was always smart, which made her arrogant, and sometimes arrogance doesn’t work to one’s advantage, and this is one of those times. Morrigan has lived for one thousand years, I found it weird for him to have been fooled by a girl, and it turns out he wasn’t.
He used her ambitious nature to his benefit, and she proved to be blind to his schemes.
Alita sensed Landon’s presence and we reached him in no time.
“I’m so glad that you’re safe!” She goes directly into his arms. “Take this!” She hands him a small recipient, and he glances at her confused.
“What is this?”
“Don’t you trust me? Drink it!”
He opens the bottle and pours the liquid down his throat without thinking twice, Alita smiles in content. After all she’s been through, she deserves to be happy.
There is love and adoration in the way they stare at each other, which makes me miss Aurora more. She must be so worried, waiting for news at home.
Alita briefly explains to her mate what we found out and he looks enraged. Who wouldn’t be when the Head of the Council, the one that should have protected the supernaturals, grew plantations on poisonous plants that could eradicate all species?
I clear my throat, we need to keep going, their affection display can wait.
We make our way to Aria’s room, the one that Allaya occupies at the moment. There is another vampire corpse on the right side of the hallway, and three others on the left.
The door of my room breaks wide open the moment when we finish putting on our clothes, and I’m prepared for the worst.
It’s not just Elena entering the room, she has a hostage. Our mother.
Rage is stirring inside me, she dares to endanger our mother once again, she is truly a heartless monster.
“Mom? Did she do anything to you? Are you okay?”
I examine her body for injuries, but there are none. Instead, she looks weird, something is off. I know what it is.
‘She is under compulsion.’ Pandora chimes in.
‘I noticed.’
“Our mother has a little gift for you. A special potion. And if you don’t drink it, I’ll snap her neck before you could blink.” Elena utters, vengeance leaking in her voice, and she tightens the hold on our mother’s neck.
“What is that?” Hayden interferes, placing his body in front of mine.
“Ohh, just a little something that kills hybrids. I have one that kills wolves as well, but if my dear sister complies, I might not hand it over to you.” Her fiery glare returns to me, her eyes filled with hate.
I step in front of Hayden, pushing him away to the wall, rather forcibly, I want to keep him away while I try to figure out my next step. He is knocked up and he will be for a while.
Elena dissolves into an evil laughter. “My sister, the protector of any being on this earth. With your powers, you could do anything, yet you choose to do nothing, as always!”
“Elena, leave Aurora alone!!!” My father, along with my brother and Alita came forward.
“Step aside!” My sister threatens. “Or I’ll make sure to kill mom in a way that neither of you will be able to resuscitate her!”
“Why are you doing this, Elena? Your mother loves you!” My father pleads with her.
“Of course, she doesn’t love me! And if she does, she loves Allaya more! Everyone loves her more! Even the greatest monster of all, Morrigan, had feelings for her! Too bad he was so caught up on her and he missed the bigger picture! He had all my admiration until I found that submitting the hybrid, or getting rid of her was his weakness. I won his trust, and he revealed his plans to me. He showed me his lab and gave me the antidote. He believed that I will kill my lovely sister and rescue him, but I plan to kill him as well the moment I finish her out!”
“You don’t know what you are talking about. If you surrender now, you will go to trial and you might even live!” My father insists, and from what I can tell, he has some sort of plan.
“ENOUGH!” Elena roared. “What is it going to be, Allaya? Your life or our mother’s? Look how frail she is!” She digs a nail in my mother’s throat, blood drips down her clothes.
She did not hit an important artery, she just wanted to show me she’s serious.
“If you don’t decide quickly, I’ll snap her neck and then kill you all! I carry enough poison for all of you, and you cannot do a thing to stop me!” She opened the bottle that she declared to be poison for hybrids.
‘If it works for hybrids, it works for werewolves and vampires too.’ My wolf states the obvious.
‘I know.’
If I lose another mother, I won’t be able to live with myself again. If I lose another loved one, I won’t be able to recover from it. It’s already so hard to move on from Alexis’s death.
‘Don’t even think about it!’ Pandora warns, but I don’t see other options.
“Leave her alone and I’ll drink it.”
“No! No, you won’t!” Landon cuts in, but Alita is murmuring a chant to immobilize him.
“Why do you hate me so much, Elena? I never did anything to you! I loved you as a sister and a best friend! You were my rock, there were many times when you supported me!”
She yawns. “You’re boring me, Allaya. I never cared for the perfect you. I just pretended, hence here we are. Are you going to sacrifice our mother to try to save yourself?”
Her words cut deep into my heart. “Let go of mom and give me the damn bottle!”
My hands are shivering, I take another glance at my unconscious handsome mate, then signal my uncle Gabriel, who was hiding behind the door, to restrain Elena as soon as she gets distracted by my death. That way, she will not be able to hurt others.
I close my eyes, placing a spell on Morrigan’s Eternal Sleep coffin, nobody will be able to rescue him. Absolutely nobody. Then I take a mouthful of the poison.
Everything happens in slow motion after that. Gabriel holds Elena, Hayden wakes up and when he gets to terms with what happens, he growls painfully and catches me in his arms.
And I wait. I wait for the moment of my death to arrive. I imagined it to be different. I thought that the poison would burn me from the inside, but I feel absolutely nothing.
I open my eyes confused. “Nothing happens.” I declare.
“Yes. That bottle she took for the hybrid has a permanent antidote inside.” My father explains. “There was a human at the lab that replaced the contents before Elena arrived.”
“NO!!! She shouts out. “You should have been dead! Why are you still breathing?” She struggles to escape my uncle, but he is more powerful. “And how are you immune to the poison I carry? It’s imprinted on me, you should die for being so close to my body!” She questions him.
Gabriel chuckled. “Ohh, I took small bits of vervain my entire life to grow immune.”
“The one that will die by tomorrow is you, Elena. You thought you had fooled Morrigan, but he gave you a temporary antidote, just enough for you to do the dirty work and then drop dead.”
She has brought it on herself and I cannot force myself to feel pity for her. She threatened my mother, she tried to kill me, she posed a danger to the entire supernatural world.
I’m relieved that I won’t have to kill her myself.
“Lock her up in the dungeons until her time comes!”
