Chapter 44 Never Enough
Chapter 44 Never Enough
Morning light streamed across the floorboard of Kian’s bedroom. He blinked against the harshness of it and he groaned at the fog of confusion. His body was sore. His muscles screamed. He felt the excruciating burn on both his arms. Shifting against the bedding, he glanced down at his arms, trying to figure out why he was in pain.
His eyes widened as they focused on the sigil carved into his skin. He glanced over at his other arm and he found the same sigil in his skin. The deep lines carved was lit with the luminescent glow of rainbow moonstone.
What did Raina do?
It then washed over him. Everything that happened. He remembered the sheer of joy of being able to find each other no matter the distance to end in a nightmare. He had felt her panic and fear then her pain before he was knocked out by his own pain.
Raina, he called out through mind link.
His chest clenched. His heart raced. Desperately waiting for anything in return, but he didn’t hear anything. What was worse was that he couldn’t feel her anymore. Tears filled his eyes as the emptiness and loneliness overwhelmed him. The hollowness in the void that he felt deep in his being was too much.
She can’t be wrong.
She can’t.
He quickly mindlinked to Sebastian. I need you to check on, Raina.
What do you mean? Sebastian asked in confusion.
Tears escaped down his cheeks. I can’t feel her anymore. I can’t reach her.
It went completely silent for a moment until Sebastian mindlinked back, telling that he would leave right now. Kian knew he couldn’t leave. It would be too risky now especially with expectations of today. Too many eyes would be on him. How was he was supposed to get through today and do what needed to be done when his soul begged him find her?
Fear filled him at the possible reality.
If her soul no longer belonged to this world, he wouldn’t rest until he found who was responsible. He would paint the world mercilessly red.
He was dressed smartly. He looked the part, but his mind was not were it should be. He looked at the faces of he despised. The smug expression on faces that thought they won whatever fucking game they were playing. Giles, Rowen, Rhiannon, Elder Richmond, Donatello, Octavius, and all the other Elder Council members that openly defied his authority all stood united, waiting for the ceremony to start.
The pack was in attendance, but his pack knew something was wrong. It was in the air. That was how he knew who his true pack members were, but they all stood tense and strained, waiting for the danger and violence to erupt. Their Alpha was restless and they knew that blood would spilled.
When Mia walked in with a beautiful dress fit for a Luna, he couldn’t deny she looked beautiful, but he knew one lady that would look more exquisite than her. The hollowness in his chest still didn’t ease and his body knew the truth even though he prayed he was wrong.
Raina was dead.
She had to be.
He would start with the blood of those that betrayed them. He would start with the blood of those that thought they could force their will against him.
“Kian?” Mia whispered his name, standing right in front of him.
He smirked, looking her over. Play the part, he kept reminding himself. “You look beautiful.”
Hope flickered in Mia’s eyes at his words. He could almost taste the sweet pleasure of revenge when he would crush all hope and joy within them. Everything about was wrong. She was nothing like Raina and she truly thought she was better than his fated mate.
He offered his hand to her and she quickly accepted his hand with relief and excitement. Like the doting fool he once was, he played his part well as he led her to the front where the World Council members were. This old tradition ritual of claiming one another in front of the pack was outdated. He was glad that Raina never wanted the pomp. A feast for the pack would’ve sufficed, but this elaborate ceremony was just a show of bells and whistles.
A voice pushed through his mind finally. Alpha, Sebastian whispered. And he knew by how he addressed him. He knew at that single title that what he feared was true.
Kian squeezed his eyes shut at the confirmation. Don’t. Just don’t. Stay there. Make sure nobody touches her body.
I’m sorry I failed you, his Beta told him.
He didn’t bother to respond. His eyes opened and he took a deep breath, trying to keep calm. He couldn’t show his pain and grief, not yet. He would give into his anger first and he’d grieve the painful loss of his fated mate. The deep pain within his chest spread wider as he thought of all her memories. They flashed through his mind.
“Kian?” Mia once again questioned.
He gave her a small smile before he looked around at the crowd. “I have been in the presence of radiant beauty since I was sixteen,” he lied easily. Mia beamed at his words, eating them up like she deserved them. “She has been my guiding light. She helped me become the wolf I am today.”
Lies. All disgusting lies. He supposed throwing up on her exquisite dress was out of the questions. It felt wrong to be complimenting her when everything inside of him compared her to Raina. They were glaring opposites and he wondered how they managed to deceive him so long.
His eyes flicked to others who were boldly and self-righteously deemed Raina as unworthy. His heart ached, because she never got to prove them wrong. She never was able to stand up tall in all her glory and showcasing she had won against them. She would never get to see him murder Octavius to redeem her as his true Luna in the eyes of the world.
She never grow swollen and heavy with his pups. She would never birth their heir to their pack. They would never grow together as their family grew. They wouldn’t have that, because it was taken from them.
The devils were going to bleed tonight.
The world would fall in line. He would bring to the World Council to their knees, hunt them down one by one if needed, and watch the life drain from their eyes. He would take pleasure in it, because they had been to eager to watch the life drain for hers.
War was coming.
He was the war and he was the revolution. He would the world a better place for the next generation, because he knew that was what she’d want.
“I’ve gathered you to bear witness to your only Luna to this pack,” he finally said as his eyes sought Mia before they looked out the confused expressions on his pack’s faces. “Any imposters that had been paraded around was against my better judgment. Anyone who refused Mia as their Luna will suffer the consequences.”
He lowered his hand, a ceremonial gesture that would force his pack to bow to their new Luna by his Alpha aura. His heart ached when his pack followed his silent command. His eyes shifted, noticing that all his pack members had been forced to bow. It included Mia, Elder Richmond, Donatello, and Octavius.
The only ones that didn’t bow we not a part of his pack. They watched on with gleeful expressions at his power. He only smirked at their ignorance. Their eyes met his and he growled low as he approached them.
“Apprehend them,” he ordered.
The Deltas that were acting as security detail were quick to take a hold of the World Council members. The members struggled against them, but they held them tightly as they tried to fight back against them.
“Did you forget who we are?” Giles growled out furiously. “Did you truly think we came alone?”
Rowen shook his head. “You could’ve saved your entire pack from the destruction that will come.”
“Call off your warriors,” Rhiannon told him calmly. “Finish the ceremony and nothing will come to your people.”
“There will be no ceremony,” Kian told them, shrugging his shoulders. Even though his Luna was dead, he would honor her. His bloodline would end with him, but until his death, he would make their lives a living hell. “I welcome death.”
He tore open his shirt to reveal Raina’s claim. The World Council members’ eyes widened in shock at the realization that he was already claimed and his Luna was his fated mate. He moved right in front of Octavius, who was beginning to panic, but he couldn’t move since his aura forced his pack members to bow.
Grabbing Octavius by the collar of his shirt, he dragged him right in front of Mia until he dropped her brother down right in front of her. He kneeled down behind Octavius. His eyes were on Mia when he ordered her to look at him, but the order was for all the traitors to look at him.
Forced by the order, she looked at him. Her eyes took in Raina’s bite. Her mouth dropped open in shock at it. Her eyes went to her brother still bowed before her and her eyes began to fill with tears as if she finally understood. Kian lifted Octavius up by his hair then with his powerful jaw transforming he bit into the back of the wolf’s neck and tore out chunk of flesh and bones. Blood spurted all over Mia’s beautiful dress and pooled on the ground, soaking into the dirt.
His eyes never left hers as he allowed the lifeless body of her brother to fall in front of her. “No, Mia, it’s never going to be enough. I have only begun.”
Mia’s shock morphed into hysterical sobs as she crumbled before him. Her hands and her dress now soaked in her brother’s blood. He only watched her, feeling temporarily satisfied, because he knew after this sick thrill, he knew only pain and hollowness awaited him. He would never be the same, because his heart mourned for the one person that could ease his blood thirst.
The faction that the World Council members had hinted at stormed through. He lifted his aura power and he watched in pride when his pack members, even the ones that weren’t Deltas, were quick to help fight against them. Donatello was quick to grab Mia and whisk her off.
It was Elder Richmond that blocked Kian from going after Donatello. The rage coming off of the older wolf was familiar and Kian welcomed it wholeheartedly. The Amato bloodline would be wiped off the face of the earth when he was through. Richmond growled at him as he shook his head.
“You’ve made a grave mistake,” the older wolf told him angrily. “You’ve ruined everything over a bitch-in-heat that isn’t even worthy to--”
“She’s dead!” he roared. “And it’s your fucking fault!”
Kian transformed into his wolf having enough of him, but he was caught off guard when a familiar wolf pounced on top of Richmond. He watched as his father’s wolf and Elder Landon’s wolf began tearing Richmond limb from limb. He looked around and wolves were fighting. Blood was being spilled and he had more blood to spill as his eyes took on the only remaining World Council member that didn’t cowardly take off.
By the end of it all, the blood of the World Council member was soaking the ground beneath the paws of his pack members. They stood tall, driving out the remaining wolves that cowardly ran from them.
Raina would’ve loved this. She would’ve fought against the devils right by his side. She was no longer here to witness the destruction, chaos, and bloodshed. His heart burned and he howled in his despair and grief. Soon, all his pack members began to howl as one as they paid respect to their loss.
