CHAPTER 14
ABBY POV.
“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?” I asked but it left my lips more like a command and the man winched. “W -we were attacked.” He said and the waver in his voice let me know that he didn’t want to tell me that, but my thoughts went straight to Marcus. “Where’s Marcus!?” I asked, but again it sounded like a command and he winched again. “He got injured, they took him to the hospital.” He said and he made eye contact with me then before lowering his eyes to my shoulder as though not wanting to look me in the eyes. “WHAT?” I said and I was about to brake when he stopped me. “NO. Keep going, I need to get you to safety.” He said and I sped up again even though I wanted to turn around. “But the hospital is the other way!” I said and he shook his head, confusing me. “Not that hospital... we have our own.” He said he suddenly grabbed the wheel and tucked it towards him. I was about to yell at him until I saw the biggest wolf I have ever seen in my life and I immediately knew that it wasn’t my imagination earlier. The Wolf charged towards us and I let go of the wheel as the man turned it for me and the car swerved around the beast of a wolf. “Keep your eyes on the road and stay alert… they are everywhere!” He said as I shakily took back control of the wheel and stepped harder on the gas. “WHAT the hell is happening?” I asked again and chanced a glance at him, but to my horror, he looked dazed as he sat and stared in front of him. “HAY!” I yelled and slapped him on the shoulder and he came out of it. “Are you okay?” I asked and he nodded. The alpha knows we are coming, he will send extra warriors to protect you on your way.” He said and I was stumped. He must have hit his head hard because I didn’t understand a word. I gaped like a fish at him before focusing back on the road and just in time too. There were men, dressed similarly to the man sitting in my car, running into the road. And not just in the road, but next to my car as though they were escorting me on foot but how the fuck was that possible? I looked down to the speed I was driving and my head snapped to my blond-haired passenger. He didn’t seem to notice what I saw as strange and he deemed as completely normal. I swallowed nervously. What the hell did I get myself into? I asked myself as I continued to drive along the road.
Something crept over me… it was like a feeling that something was about to go wrong. I stepped on the brakes and the car skidded over the dirt road just as a wolf jumped out from behind the trees. This wasn’t the same wolf beast as before. This was a black and white wolf with golden glowing eyes as I made eye contact with it.
I knew that if I didn’t stop the car, then he would have collided with us and I somehow had the feeling that I had just derailed his plan. The two men that ran beside us, immediately leaped onto the beast, but what shocked me frozen was when those same two men turned into massive wolves themselves.
Three different colored wolves rolled around in the dirt road in front of my car, pawing claws and snapping their jaws at each other. They stumbled into my car, making it hop and I screamed in panic as I shook out of my frozen state. “Come on, we are going to have to make a run for it.” The blond man said as he threw his door open and was already getting out. I looked at him like he was out of his mind and I wanted to tell him that but something inside stopped me and made me reach out and take his hand that he held out to me. Without any effort or hesitation, he pulled me from the driver seat and out the other side just as the three wolves came tumbling onto the car this time, crushing it under their weight. I had no time to reflect on it as I was suddenly picked up and held bridal style by the blond man and he started to run. He went around the fighting beasts and started down the road and I was relieved to see the huge house that was visible in the distance.
There were others running across the acres of grass and some of the houses that stood on the property were burning. A coldness swept over me when I saw not one, but a few bodies lying around and I wasn’t sure if they were dead or alive. My stomach turned as nausea pushed up in my throat. What have I gotten myself into. That thought wasn’t the first time that it popped into my head, but I also knew that I was in it now and that I had to get myself out of it.
“We’re almost there.” The man said and I looked at his face as he kept running with me in his arms. The cut on the side of his head looked deep but seemed to have stopped bleeding.
“SHIT!” He suddenly exclaimed just before something collided with us and we went tumbling. I hit the ground hard and it took a moment for me to catch my breath. I looked up and saw the man pinned under a wolf. He was holding the wolf by the neck as he tried to push him off.
“RUN.”
