CHAPTER 11

MARCUS POV.

‘Where are you?’ I linked my beta as I was driving. ‘And a good morning to you too.’ Came the sarcastic reply before he spoke again. ‘The Luna is still at the house from last night. It’s her parents’ house.’ He linked. “Thank you, Mac.” I link back. I wondered again who the young man was who greeted Abby yesterday in the driveway. ‘It’s her brother by the way, if you were wondering.’ Mac mind linked me as though reading my mind. I smirked. ‘Thank you, Mac.’ I said as I drove over there. I knew the guy wasn’t a threat. My wolf inside didn’t see him as a threat.

When I got there, I made sure not to park at the same place as yesterday and I sprinted through the houses to the right one and I saw Mac casually leaning against a tree, out of sight from visible eyes.

“They’re about to have breakfast. The Luna is taking a shower.” Mac said and I looked towards the window that he motioned to with his head. “Thanks.” I said and I felt a tinge of disappointment that the window was closed. I wouldn’t have minded another peak at her. “They are going to take her for a check-up.” Mac said and I looked at him quizzically. “A checkup? What for?” I asked and Mac smirked. “She told her friend all about her amazing night with a stranger and her brother didn’t like that at all and insisted on getting checked out.” Mac said with a smirk. “Apparently, he doesn’t like the thought of her sister being picked up like some stray.” He said and I rolled my eyes at him. “Haha, funny.” I said and he chuckled.

“Thank you, Mac. You can go.” I said as I strained my head, trying to see the window and hoping for a glimpse. The window was frosted. “Do you want me to wait in the car or…” Mac asked and I shook my head. “No, you can sprint off back home and get some rest.” I said and Mac nodded and yawned tiredly on cue. “I guess I’ll see you later then.” Mac said and started to sprint off. I knew he was going to look at a wooded area before shifting and taking the long way home, around the town.

A moment later, as I stared at the window that was concealing my mate, I heard the water from the shower shut off and a shadow passed by on the inside. I inched closer, shaking my head at myself in my desperation to be closer to her. Suddenly the window opens and steam blows out and there she is. There is too much steam to see anything but I quickly had to dive out of sight as she nearly spots me. I hold my breath as I hear her at the window and I hope that she won't peak out otherwise she will see me and then what?... I had no way of explaining myself and I would end up looking like an ass and probably be labeled as a stalker.

“Probably the neighbor’s cat, Abby.” I hear her mutter to herself and I blow out my breath that I was holding in. I hear her move around as she gets dressed and as much as I wanted to, I didn’t dare peak again. I hear her opening the door and she leaves the bathroom. I sigh. I might as well go wait in the car. I thought. Sooner or later, she will have to leave then I can think of a way to accidentally run into her again. And this time I was going to make sure to take her apartment and phone number.

To my relief, I saw her, her brother and the girlfriend coming out of the house. She got into her car while the other two took another. I waited until they were almost at the end of the road, before I pulled away and followed them. True to what Mac said, they stopped at a clinic where the three of them disappeared into and I had to wait almost an hour before they came out again. I smirked as I watched her brother walk next to her. I already knew that Abby was healthy. I secretly hoped that after the night that she spent with me that there would be something extra, but even by werewolf standards, it would be too early to tell. Maybe in a week or so, but not now. I studied her brother. He was fit and looked after himself and looked like a well-put-together man. For them to spend time together at their age meant that they were close so I was going to have to win favour with him too.

I watched as they got into their cars again and they drove off. The one followed the other again and they turned into a parking lot with a little diner. “Bob’s Diner.” I read aloud to myself as I also turned into the parking lot. Careful to not be seen as I tried to think of a reason to accidentally run into her here… “What the fuck!?” I utter as I sit in my car, looking at the front of the diner. Kate and her little toy boy of a mate just went in! my heart started to hammer in my chest. Abby was in there and I was almost sure of it that there was going to be a confrontation between them. Should I go in or should I stay? I asked myself. If we go in then Kate will find out who our mate is and that would put a target on her back, but if I don’t go in then there is a chance that she could get hurt with whatever confrontation that is about to happen and there was a chance that it could slip out that she met me on the night of the party… “Fuck!” I utter as I quickly get out of my car, slamming the door loudly and march up to the front door of the diner. The door creaked as I opened it and just as I expected… Kate was gloating and making a scene in front of my mate with her brother and his girlfriend.

“Or you’ll what?” The brother’s girlfriend challenged and I was mildly impressed by her standing up to Kate. Kate wasn’t impressed at all and she grabbed the girl by the front of the jacket that she was wearing. “Kate! No, she’s a friend.” Josh cried out to Kate just as Abby and her brother leaped to their feet, but I had seen enough and I had to stop this before she hurt someone.

“KATE!” I said in my alpha voice and to my satisfaction, Kate immediately let go of the girl and she stepped away as though scolded by an elder. Even though she was of alpha blood too and tried to claim what was mine, I still had a higher rank than her. Her face paled as she stared at me with wide eyes and her mate stood frozen at her side. Even for a human, he was cowardly. How could Abby have had feelings for this man? I wondered as I stared at him. He looked even more ruffled than yesterday.

I feel Abby’s eyes on me and I feel a jolt in my groin as I feel her eyeing me up and down.

“What the hell do you think you are doing!?” I demanded, my voice still in alpha mode and I saw anger cross Kate’s face at being addressed in such a manner. “This is none of your business, Marcus!” She snapped at me. I knew she was trying to put on a brave face and when her eyes darted to the diner door behind me, I knew she was either looking for a way out or she was making sure that I was alone.

“That is not what it looked like to me.” I said, folding my arms in front of myself to make it clear that I was making a stand and I was ready for whatever she was going to throw at me. “Please, she didn’t mean any harm. We only came here to get something to eat.” Josh, her mate said as he stepped up. “We will go somewhere else.” Her mate said and took Kate’s arm but she shrugged him away. “I am not leaving and you can’t make me.” She snapped.

She was right. I can’t make her leave without causing an even bigger scene and I was afraid of what she would do if she did stay. I looked towards Abby and smirked at her. ”Hey beautiful.” I said and Abby smiled at me as all heads snapped to her simultaneously. “Sorry I am late but now that I am here…” I spoke and it took her a moment to catch on. “We can order.” I said and I brushed past a shocked-looking Josh before I took a seat next to Abby and kissed her on the lips. For a moment she looked breathless as I was sure that those same tingles from our touched lips brought back memories from our night together.

“Y-yeah… oh, you’re just in time. I was going to order the blueberry waffles with the vanilla ice cream.” She rambled, playing along. This made me smile at how good she was able to read me and it was a reminder of how perfect she was for me. “I hope you don’t mind my niece joining us though, I really didn’t know that she would be here.” I said and looked at her brother and his girlfriend. Ignoring a dumbstruck Kate.

“Hi there, we haven’t met. I’m Marcus Moonlock.” I introduced myself to her brother, extending my hand towards him. Her brother seemed to be stumped but he snapped out of it. He took my hand, shaking it. “Nice to meet you. I am James Charter and this is my girlfriend, Audrey Summers.” James introduced himself and his girlfriend. Audrey sat herself back down in her chair, staring at me with wide eyes.

I looked at Kate and her mate. They were standing there, speechless, in complete disbelief. “Well? Are you going to join us or not?” I taunted her mockingly and wrapped an arm around Abby’s shoulders. I loved the feel of her body heat as she leaned into my hold. Her ex looked at her with a pale face as he stood frozen next to Kate. I enjoyed the look on his face as realization entered his eyes to what Abby was to me. Kate looked ready to blow her top. “THIS IS HER!?” She exclaimed angrily and pointed a finger at Abby.

“Yes, it is and I will make myself clear only this once...” I spoke. I needed to get the message over to Kate loud and clear. “Her family and friends are under my protection.” I said and Abby shivered in my hold and I noticed her head turning to look at me curiously. I knew I was going to have to explain myself to her later.

Kate looked like she was about to retort. I expected her too so I was surprised when she turned and stormed out of the diner. Josh stood there, staring at Abby and I didn’t like the look in his eye. He was looking at her worriedly as though she was in danger and that was just insulting to me. I would never hurt her. “I think you should leave too.” I said just as her ex opened his mouth to say something. He quickly closed his mouth before turning and following his fiancé.
