CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY ONE
CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY ONE
I moved out of the way as Alaric slowly walked toward the woman who looked exactly like him, just softer and a bit more mature. It seemed the devil waited until she was in her late forties before he marked her.
“Mom?” He called to her, emotional and unbelievably teary.
“My son! Oh, I've longed and begged to see you since forever!” She cried as they hugged each other, her long, jet-black hair cascading his back.
“Everybody out!” I commanded, sending away all the prying eyes because I knew Alaric wouldn't want anyone to see him in such an emotional state.
Also, I felt so happy for them but it felt like I was intruding on a personal moment. He's been without her for centuries when they could have had a bond. I can complain about my parents all I want, but they were there, they provided as much as they could, and when I got the means, I was able to love them from a distance.
But he's been forced to endure the horrible parent while believing his mom was dead and even when he told her she wasn't, he made it seem like he was joking about it. It gave him hope, yet he knew he'd never convince his father to let her go.
As I closed the door behind me, I was happy we could do this and reunite them together. I can't even imagine the level of mental torment the woman must have been through, unable to see her child all these years while enduring Lucifer's existence, considering how messed up he was upstairs.
I went outside to see that they'd cleaned everything and one wouldn't even know lives had been lost here today. Either they were really fast at it, or I'd stayed for way too long in the bathroom with Alaric, and from the way my pussy was tingling, I'd say later is the case.
It was insane how the world kept flowing in the direction it was without knowing how many battles were fought, won, or lost under their noses. The idea that something lived inside me specifically for the purpose of keeping the devil away from harming this earth scared me. I mean, what if she decided she didn't want to be locked up in my body anymore and had main-character energy?
What would happen to me?
If we ever merged together, what part of me would be left behind, and what part would disappear forever?
I guess that's all dependent on how well Alaric does his job, I'm not sure I want to find out; she didn't seem anything like me at all.
While I was scared and docile, she seemed like she could hurt anybody that crossed her path; I didn't want to play the blame game crap, but I wouldn't have killed my father, not in a million years.
Killing that taxi man when Damien held me hostage, yes, I completely take responsibility for it but this one was so out of pocket I immediately knew that wasn't normal.
Getting an explanation for it now still didn't make the guilt any lesser and I might have to start looking for a new therapist.
I noticed some of the demons protecting me and some Fallen guys chilling with Octavio at the Security building Which was a large duplex that was connected to the gate and had a big verandah as well.
“Good evening my Queen,” one of the guys, Max, greeted me, bowing down.
“Don't do that again please,” I replied with a grimace.
I don't think I'll be any sort of royalty at this pace with how all of this obeisance and bowing makes me feel.
Octavio laughed at the whole thing.
“She's a chill girl that shoots out of her fingers, guys. No need to be scared,” he announced with a smirk.
“Do you hear yourself, bro? That's like a serial killer,” Malakai, a Fallen replied, hitting Octavio in the back playfully. They were all buddying up and while that made me happy, these two were acting really suspiciously.
The joke wasn't even that funny, yet they were in each other’s spaces. I narrowed my eyes at them a bit but was distracted by everything else.
Gradually I settled in with them, catching up and talking about everything.
Everything except what just happened, we'd lost some of our own people and it seemed nobody wanted to go down the route of sadness. Or maybe spiritual beings dealt with death differently, while we try to remember and preserve their memories, they do everything but that.
I'll try not to judge.
“What's up love bird?” I heard Kora's voice as she approached us, her face smiling for the first time in a while.
“Um, me?” I asked in wonder, pointing at myself.
“You're literally the only person here in a relationship and now that I think about it, that's fucking strange,” she replied as though this was absolutely normal and she hadn't hated my existence for the last two weeks or more.
“It's because love is so damn hard,” Octavio gushed, rolling his eyes.
“Is it?” Malakai asked, looking at him even though the question was supposed to be for everybody.
“It isss. Sex, however? Very easy, very attainable, and without stress. In fact, it takes away from the accumulated stress of life,” he replied cheerfully.
By Malakai’s crestfallen face, I jumped to my own conclusions, draw yours, my dear readers; I know what I'm seein,g, and from my perspective, those two are doing way more than Alaric and I.
I will decide how to feel about that later but for the moment, I had Kora's switch of attitude to deal with.
She joined us, engaging in conversations and trying to draw me into them but I was unresponsive.
She'd been pretty tough on me recently, and to me, that ship had sailed, so I didn't understand her sudden desire for interaction. Also, during the entire fight, she's been pretty sturdy on the fence which tells me her love for Alaric wasn't that deep. Yes, it exists, and compared to the rest of the siblings, a whole lot, but she didn't love him enough to go to war for him, so why hate me so much? Because it was easier?
Anyway, I wasn't planning to suddenly start jumping up and down at her command, she doesn't like me and she'd made that clear, I won't assume otherwise except given genuine reasons to; I've had people play with my emotions so much that I decidedly have to be the bad guy if I wasn't going to descend into sheer madness.
“It's been a crazy week, hell, a crazy whole year! I feel like we should all go out and celebrate!” She announced and everyone cheered up for her idea, throwing locations around.
“Nyx club it is!” She announced after they'd come to an agreement, “I can't wait to dress you up!” She cheered excitedly.
“I'm not going,” I stated, ignoring the sad response from everyone else. “I've had a pretty tough day but hey, you guys have fun for two, okay? I'll be going to bed early anyways, I still have a lot of things to do with Kiara tomorrow.”
“You're choosing these Fallen over us?” She demanded, saucy.
“Don't be ridiculous Kora, there's no competition. I'm not like you,” I replied with a smile and walked away from there before she could say a word, my heart beating really fast.
‘How do people do this bad bitch thing?’ I wondered to myself, as standing up for myself for a minute nearly gave me a heart attack.
I walked to the living room, trying to be as quiet as possible so Alaric and his mother wouldn't notice me, but that plan failed.
'Somebody, please beg the gods to add teleportation to my skillset,' I thought with a grimace.
