Immediately Mikey left Black’s office, he went straight to the hospital to find out what the hell was happening. When he got there, the doctors were in surgery so he had to wait outside for some hours. He couldn’t afford to lose his best friend. He meant too much to him, nobody knew but he lived him, more than a brother and more like a lover. He could recount how many times that Michael had just manged to turn him on whenever he pushed his buttons. Although Michael was a mafia lord, he loved toying with Computers and IT gadgets that he was the brains and communication in any underground mission that they were having.
He closed his eyes as he recalled one of those times Michael had to help him to repair something. What some people don’t know is that Michael wasn’t a man with a silver spoon in the mouth just like Mikey. Nope, Michael used to work for Mikey as an IT guy in his own company, years ago when his father was still alive and ruled the company as the then CEO. His father had given him the temporary position of the CEO, so he could have a taste of the power and how it felt like. And that month was the worst month of his life as he kept on doing everything wrong and firing people yet Michael wasn’t scared of him one bit. He remembered how they had first met each other in his company.
FLASHBACK
NB: IT STARTED FROM MICHEAL’S POV THEN ENDED WITH MIKEY’S POV
Didn’t the temporary CEO Mr Bryan,{Mikey} tell you to meet him, in his office, what the hell are you still doing here? Are you trying to get fired the second time, in a day? Lily said changing the topic. Mikey was the name used by closest friends, but his real name was Mr Bryan.
Oh, shoot I forgot.I should get going. Don’t worry I will call you, once I ascertain, the problem. Michael said face palming himself as he headed for the door.
Oh, one more thing Michael, Lily said as he paused and faced back.
What’s up? He asked looking at them.
Try hiding those eye bags from Mr Bryan. Jacob and Lily chorused. “It is very noticeable, you didn’t apply makeup, to hide it, this time, did you.” She added
Nah, I forgot.Michael said waving them off, as he left. He took the elevator to the highest floor, where Mr. Bryan’s office was situated. He got to the empty hallway, he saw where the personal assistant, Andrea used to stay, but it was vacant, now. He wondered for a brief moment who could possibly replace Andrea.
Who in his or her right mind, would want to work with Mr Bryan, in the first place? Who in his right mind, would said yes to be his personal assistant, after knowing how he behaves irrationally, and he never apologizes, even if he is wrong.
Shrugging, he got to the door, and knocked, but there was no reply.
Taking a deep breath, he pushed the door open, and walked in, the office was empty, but he could see a note on the table.
Sorry, went out for some urgent business. The item, I want you to repair, is in my drawer, third cabinet. It shouldn’t take you up to 30 minutes. But there is a mini fridge beside the door, help yourself to some water, while you work. The note read.
“Who the hell answers Mikey?” Michael muttered to himself but just shrugged. It wasn’t his business to know. Nodding his head, he went to his table and sat down on his office chair, to open the drawer.
Immediately, he opened it, his mouth dropped open, in shock. Michael leaned in to get a closer look at the laptop, and more vulgar words flew from his mouth. What the actual fuck, happened to this thing. Michael thought, he was walking in a crime scene. What mad man, would do such thing, to an innocent laptop. The laptops, were scattered beyond repair, it was as if, someone put this through a wood chipper.
How in the hell, is he supposed to fix this in 30 minutes, he wasn’t freaking God, who could just say repair and it repaired? He tried to lift it, and a few keyboard keys fell out from, this scrappy plastic and metal mess.
There was no way, there was no fucking way in hell. There was absolutely no fucking way in hell, he could fix this in thirty years, much less thirty minutes.
Michael felt his phone buzz, in his back pocket.
Oh shit, he forgot that he was supposed to get in, with Lily, looks like she is curious already. Thank the fucking stars that Bryan was nowhere to be found. He picked the call, and placed it in his ears, trying to dismantle the mess in front of him.
Hey, Lily. Missing me already?
Nah, just called to check if, Mr. Bryan had changed his mind, and decided to fire you already. She said.
Very funny, you wouldn’t believe what the fuck I am looking at, right now. I am literally going to send you a picture, of this laptop, it has been smashed to pieces. Looks like someone put this through a wood chipper, and he expects me to fix it in just 30 minutes, because I am bloody Einstein. Michael said.
He heard one of Lily’s signature laugh on the other end of the line. That’s batshit. He does know, that there is no way, that you would be able to fix that under 30 minutes, much less thirty years. She replied.
My thoughts exactly. I think that is hard for rich people to see the common sense, and consideration, behind their entitlements. Michael said. Lily laughed loudly, as he could hear Jacob, doing only God knows what, in the back ground. He hasn’t gone back to his own floor, yet. I pray Mr Bryan would be looking for his ass right now.
Just then, he heard someone clear his throat, from where he sat. bringing down his phone, from his ears, slowly. He faced the direction of the noise and he met a pair of blue eyes.
Familiar blue eyes. Jesus on freaking crutches, crucify me now, it was Mr. Bryan, looking at him, with a scowled expression. He must had heard everything, he told Lily.
Immediately Michael stood upright from his seat, as if, it was mystically burning his butt.
It seems that the I.T guy is having problems, doing his job. Hell, isn’t that what you are being paid for? Mikey said, looking squarely at Michael, as he crossed his arms.
Ye-yes…no. Michael stammered out, he was frozen in place.
I called you here to fix the laptop, correct? He asked again, as Michael nodded his head. Why did this suddenly feel like an interrogation room.
Michael thought that his legs were about to give out, falling back into Mr. Bryan seat, was probably the last thing, he should do now.
Is it fixable? He asked again, as Michael was lost staring in his eyes. He wondered why he never noticed it in the first place. His eyes were the bluest eyes, he had ever seen. He realized that, Mr. Bryan had asked him a question, when he started waving his arms round his face.
When did he get so close already to me? Michael reasoned as he forced the words to come out of his mouth.
Y-ye-No. it is too broken. It would take years for me to fix it. I think, the best thing and the more efficient thing would be to get a new laptop.
He was looking at Michael, with such intensity, that he(Michael), couldn’t process, whether to stand or sit again. Beads of sweats, were starting to form on the base of Michael’s forehead.
Jeez, this man, was scary. He could imagine what Andrea felt, when she was with him, before being fired.
It looks fixable to me. He said simply, his arms still crossed.
This was probably the part, where Michael’s dad would have told him to straighten his face, because he went from worry to looking at this man in front of him, like he had lost his fucking mind.
I-I th-this isn’t fixable. Michael replied slowly. This was his boss, for crying out loud, and he narrowly missed being fired some minutes ago. It was the worst idea, for him to raise his voice at him, if it was someone else like Jacob. Hell he would have smashed the laptop on his head, already. Even Jacob hadn’t done anything or said anything this reckless before.
Looks like it went through a wood chipper, huh, Micheal? He asked looking at Michael, again, as a smirk was formed on his face.
Hell, he was enjoying this, that much Michael knew.
There was a pregnant pause. During, this moment, Michael’s eyes grew so wide, he thought that they were going to pop out of his socket.
Bryan had heard everything. Every fucking thing.
It would take time to retrieve all the parts. He said at last.
Well, I suppose it is a good thing, that you are on my company’s payroll, then isn’t it? Bryan said once more.
All Michael could do, was give the bloody temporary CEO, a fucking nod, because what else could he do?
MIKEY POV
After he had gone to the bathroom, to take care of a hard on, he went down to the lobby. It was then he realized that he had forgotten his keycard, in the office. As soon as he made his way, back to the floor, that was when he overheard the conversation, that was flowing out of his office.
I’m literally going to have to send you a picture of this laptop. It has been smashed to fucking pieces, Lily. Looks like someone put this through a freaking wood chipper. The voice said.
Wood chipper huh?
He was about to barge, into the room, but stopped himself short, in the doorway. There was Michael, sitting on his seat, of his desk, examining the laptop like it was a beaten up puppy. Looking at him, now, he didn’t look any older than his early, twenties yet the bags underneath his eyes were insane.
I think it is hard for rich people to see the common sense, and consideration, behind their entitlement. Bryan{Mikey} heard the man say. He decided that was probably enough bullshit, that he could tolerate for the day.
I cleared my throat, and Micheal looked up, from the desk, to me. It looked like my presence startled him.
His gaze was different… before I could put a handle on, what felt off, realization settled in, for him.
He looked like a deer caught in a headlight, I watched the phone leave his hands.
You must be the I.T guy. I noted
Y-yes. He croaked out.
Is it fixable?
Something about him, getting all flustered and uncomfortable, brought out the sadist in me. It was nice having people fear you, it really was. He proceeded to inform me, about how non-fixable, the device was.
“Looks like it went through a wood chipper, huh?” I said.
His face paled at the words. There was an uncomfortable silence, that hung in the air, before he finally composed himself enough to reply. It will take time to retrieve all the parts.
It is a good thing, that you are on my company, payroll, then isn’t it? Something flashed across his face. I recognized it instantly, as annoyance. He was now annoyed, because Jason, had the audacity to be annoyed with him.
