Immediately Michael dropped his phone and turned to Mikey who was driving this time around a Mercedes Benz as he said,
“I just got off the phone with Black, he said he will meet us at his office. He is headed there now.” He said but Mikey just nodded his head, lost in thoughts. Michael was still waiting for a reply and saw that none was forthcoming so he added,
“You still haven’t told me what went on after you got in the office. How was she?” He asked again, eagerly trying to get a reaction from him, but Mikey just shrugged and replied,
“She is fine.”
“Honestly bro, is that all you are going to give me? Talk to me what happened? We are best friends man, and besides this isn’t unlike you. Is there anything that I should know?” Michael said holding his shoulder but Mikey just shrugged it off and said,
“Nah I am good. I just…nevermind. Let us talk about you, I don’t think I have ever seen your girlfriend around?” He said as Michael raised an eyebrow wondering where this was coming from.
“That is because I do not have a girlfriend? Why bringing up this topic again? And out of the blues?” He said as Mikey wanted to replied but just clamped his mouth shut. Five seconds later, he replied
“Sorry, I was just trying to bring up a conversation, maybe I am just out of sorts today.” He shrugged as Michael nodded his head and said,
“Sure…I will just head over to the news then, till we reach. You need to get your lively spirit up and running before we meet Black. He will pounce on you and drag out the problem, himself.” He said more to himself as an awkward silence filled the air. Michael on the other hand couldn’t concentrate on why Mikey was acting this way, he was always the free spirited and lively one. But as soon he had gotten off from the closed door meeting with his bride to be, he had looked upset and moody and he was still troubled. Perhaps something had went wrong when he was with his bride, but if Mikey didn’t tell him what happened, how was he supposed to help him out?
He didn’t even know when they had arrived at one of Black’s companies when Mikey suddenly killed the engine and said,
“We have arrived.” He said in a cold tone as Michael nodded his head, removing his seat belt but Mikey had already gotten out of the car and slammed the door shut. Okay something was definitely wrong? Why was he behaving this way? Michael got out of his side of the car and closed the door gently but Mikey had already reached the company’s entrance. He walked up to him, nodding as the guards bowed their heads in greetings. Obviously they knew who they were. As they walked in, the receptionist Maya beamed at them and said in a nice voice,
“I am sorry but Mr Black hasn’t come in for the day. Would you like to wait while I make a call to him?”
“Don’t bother yourself. He is on the way here and we are expecting him.” Mikey replied flashing her a quick smile but Michael could see through that smile of his, he wasn’t fooling Michael. Michael knew that something wrong was about to happen or had happened but he just couldn’t place his finger on it.
“Oh well, in that case, you two can go up and wait for him in his office, I will have someone send up refreshments for you guys till he arrives.” She said smiling as Mikey nodded his head and stalked off to the elevator without even glancing at Michael.
Okay what the hell was going on? He wondered as he entered the elevator before the door closed as he turned to his best friend now stranger and asked,
“Mikey, there is something definitely going on, talk to me. I can help.” He said but Mikey just kept mute and still, until the elevator door slid open and they walked out straight into his office. Michael walked to the window and pulled the curtains aside as he spotted Black’s car stopping in the drive way.
“He is here!” Michael announced to Mikey who just nodded his head and said one word,
“Excellent!”
Michael frowned at this but he just shrugged and sat down, if Mikey was going to be a moody brat today, then so be it. But he had tried his best to coax him to talk and he didn’t want to, so he was going to leave him from now on.
Minutes passed as they heard the elevator doors chimed open and they heard the familiar footstep of Black walking towards the office. Michael stood up ready to greet him but Mikey stood up too. He had barely had time to glance at Mikey to even have an inkling about what he was doing when the door burst open and Black walked in smiling but soon stopped in his tracks.
“Black, it is so nice to see you, You married old oaf.” Michael said as he noticed that Black was rather staring at Mikey stunned. What the hell was happening?
“Black, what are you looking at?” Michael said as he followed Black’s gaze to Michael and his mouth dropped open too.
“Mikey, what the hell do you think you are doing? Have you got out of your mind? Mikey talk to me?” Michael said in fear as Mikey was pointing his Glock gun at Black.
“This is for my father.” Mikey said as he pressed the trigger as Michael rushed and jumped in the middle of them getting hit instead as he fell to the ground groaning.
Black suddenly got out of his trance as he yelled at Mikey.
“Mikey what the hell!” He said as he dragged the gun away from Mikey who was shocked. He hadn’t expected Michael to get himself in the middle.
“Damn you, Michael” He yelled as he ran to his best friend pulling him in his arms as Black looked utterly confused.
“Why would his best friend try to murder him?”
