Chapter 123: The Block

Chapter 123: The Block

Sylvia's pov.

His words stuck to my mind like glue in a paper, replaying in my mind and I couldn't even pause it.

Wolves were lashing out.

His suspicions were contagious because there was absolutely no way he would have them if there wasn't some form of truth.

About how they partially shifted, how they couldn't control it, lockers have been damaged, claw marks left behind in its wake, rumors about the sounds of growls during classes have been passed around quite a few times.

Patches of fur around the school have been identified and no one knows where they came from.

Micheal left shortly after, leaving me with much more to worry about than earlier.

Class went on usually, my body might be present, but my mind was not, it couldn't have been especially when Peggy entered the room making her way towards me.

I forced a smile to my face, greeting her as politely as I could, “Hey you.”

She went on and on about how her day had been stressful and hopefully this was the last class she was having, “Oh yeah, why?”

Probably taking wolves to your secret hideout so you can torture them or what?

Oh Peggy, why did you have to be a hunter?? Just why?

I couldn't help but feel a pang of pain in my chest that she was the very threat to my existence.

“Nothing much, just classes, I can't really wait for the semester to come to an end,” she really wasn't giving me anything here.

I could as well just go straight to asking her if she really was a hunter and save myself the struggle, but that would also mean I would be revealing myself.

I groaned internally at the dilemma, she was the only one who would know about the disappearances. But would that also explain the strange behaviours of wolves.

Most likely.

“True, I really want to return back home to my family, I really miss them,” I carried the conversation not wanting it to be one-sided

Peggy patted my shoulders, “Oh yeah, where do they live?”

For a second, my blood froze, was this a set up? Was she about to start interrogating me again?

Luckily, I was saved by the professor in front who called both of our attention.

We both apologised for disturbing her class.

The conversation died down from there and I thanked the moon goddess, I really didn't want to reveal more than was necessary knowing who she was.

Class ended and we both walked out of the class. Peggy was headed to the diner but I didn't feel like working for the day and decided to just stay back and study.

Without a second thought, she pecked my cheeks and was on her way.

Again, how could you be a hunter?

If it wasn't for the fact that she had shot me herself, I would have never believed it. With so much hatred in her eyes, like she had a personal vendetta against me specifically.

Perhaps I didn't know who she was other than what she was letting the world know. If I was going to investigate her, I might as well start now.

With that thought in mind, I decided to start from her records in the school, perhaps I could find something there.

Making my way across the school until I arrived at the administrative block where all students' records are kept. Inside, a number of students still roamed freely.

I couldn't just walk and ask for a student's details, could I?

All records must be digital so all I needed to do was get my hands on one of the computers.

“Hey Sylvie?”

I turned around so fast, I thought my head would snap off, “Gary?! What are you doing here?” I didn't really think there was anyone that would know me to be present.

Gary smiled, shrugging his shoulders, “I work here.”

My eyes widened in shock and confusion, “You work here?”I repeated more slowly confused on the context.

Wasn't he working at the diner any longer?

He chuckled softly, “This is an extra curricular activity for me, I still work at the diner though,” he cleared up.

Hmm.

He went on talking about how he needed to keep his grades up and it would look great in his resume or something, “What are you doing here? You never come to the administrative block?”

He brought my thoughts back to the present, now I realised I couldn't possibly tell him the real reason as all three of us were friends.

I couldn't also tell him I was here trying to dig into Peggy's life because what if he was also one of them.

A hunter.

There was no telling who was who any longer and I needed to be careful before I spilled my secrets to the wrong person.

Gary arched a brow, cocking his head to the side questioningly.

“Uhmmm, I was……” nothing, I couldn't come up with anything, “I needed information on something,”

“Oh yeah, what's that, perhaps I can help you.”

I pressed my lips together in a thin line, well technically you could, and I wanted you to, but at the same time, I didn't want that.

Sighing in defeat, “It's for Dr Maksim, it's for our project, he says it's confidential for now but I need access to students' records.”

I finally came up with something, hopefully he doesn't go seeking confirmation.

“Oh yeah, I heard about you and him working together,” this took me off guard.

He chuckled once more, “Relax, not a lot of people do, just a few of us know about it.”

He pulled me along to a computer at the front station to the side, “You can use my computer, but make sure to log out once you are done, we don't want anyone going through these records without authorization.”

He smiled at me and I couldn't help but want to kiss this cute boy. He walked away after that and I was left to his own devices
