Chapter 122: Stranger Coincidence
Chapter 122: Stranger Coincidence
Sylvia's pov.
The room settled in a tense silence, my heart sat in one as well, filled with worry, despite knowing her for only a short period. If something had truly happened to her then whatever it was, it would come for us as well.
Ezekiel released a sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose, “For now, let's widen our search and be more careful, Annie? I need you to take a head count of the others in the school, and then reach out to the pack as well.”
Annie nodded, determined to get this done and get her friend back.
“We also need to keep an eye out for Peggy,” He voiced out.
I pinned him down with my gaze before letting it shift towards Annie who I surmised had a questioning look, “Who is Peggy and why do we need to keep an eye out for her.”
My gaze locked with Ezekiel's lasted more than a second as we communicated whether or not to let Annie in on Peggy's secret.
I didn't want to but it seemed Ezekiel had his own plans, “She's the hunter who tried to kill Sylvia.”
Annie dragged her gaze towards me briefly before they returned to Ezekiel, “If we know this bitch is a hunter, why the fuck is she still alive?”
“No one is touching her,” a silent anger rose in my chest as I growled unknowingly,
They both were taken by surprise and my sudden protection, however, Annie seems to find it amusing, “Ahh, is it the little girlfriend of yours you run around with?” A chuckle escaped her lips.
“Well it's a good thing I don't take orders from you love,” a sly smirk stretched across her face, crossing her hands over her chest as though daring me.
There was no way I was going to let Annie get her hands on Peggy.
Before I could say anything more, Ezekiel chose this moment to step in, “That's enough.”
“Annie, you are not to touch Peggy for whatever reason,” he said in the most relaxed manner I have ever seen him.
More of a command.
It took Annie a second before she reigned back, “Yes Alpha,” no questions asked.
And then it clicked, Ezekiel was now the alpha and she had to follow his commands no matter what. In that instant, I saw Ezekiel in a whole new light.
I didn't know why I wanted to protect Peggy so much, she had literally shot me twice before I fell into an abyss and died. But for some reasons…
“We would investigate her, find out more, in the meantime we need to keep each other safe,” Ezekiel continued.
Keeping each other safe, I needed to check on my pack, perhaps they would know something.
But apparently, it wasn't just Amy missing, someone they called Shane was too as well, I didn't know him that well though.
Apparently, he was one of Ezekiel's pack members.
"He disappeared two days ago," Ezekiel said.
I frowned.
"Two days ago?"
He nodded grimly.
"No one thought much of it at first. We assumed he was handling something on his own." Two days ago was the day before the full moon.
"But now?"
His jaw tightened.
"Now we aren't so sure."
A cold feeling settled in my stomach. One person could be an accident, two, perhaps a coincidence.
Especially when both belonged to the same circle of people.
I'd skip the second and say this was all planned.
Annie immediately began suggesting areas that hadn't yet been searched. The discussion quickly shifted toward expanding their efforts and that she would get right into it immediately.
The determination in their voices was reassuring, but it didn't erase the growing sense of unease creeping into my thoughts.
Eventually the conversation came to an end.
There wasn't much more to discuss until new information surfaced.
Annie left briefly after that, leaving Ezekiel's and I alone, I couldn't help but fall into his arms while he circled them around me, kissing the top of my forehead, “It'll be fine.”
I calmed down for a second before narrating my encounter with Peggy when we got back, “She kept questioning me about you, if anyone should be careful, it's you.”
I didn't want anything to happen to him.
“I'll be fine, I promise.”
That was the same thing my father said, and I never saw him again.
Right after, I found myself wandering across campus alone as Ezekiel had more duties to attend to.
The afternoon air was cool against my skin, but my thoughts remained occupied, missing people, my friend being a hunter that went after my kind.
I shook my head.
At least the one good thing to come out of all of this was my work with Dr Maksim, and a chance to save my mother and give her the life she should have had, maybe even more.
Lost in my own head, I nearly walked past Michael before noticing him.
He called my name first, turning, I spotted him approaching from across the courtyard.
He seems to be seeking me out quite often for a pack that didn't want me around and almost killed me.
After exchanging greetings.
Then he casually mentioned something that immediately caught my attention.
"Eve still hasn't come back."
I blinked. "What?"
This wouldn't have been shocking to me if it weren't for what I already knew.
He explained that Eve had been absent for several days. At first nobody was worried, thinking she would be back, but she never did apparently.
Three disappearances.
Three people gone within roughly the same period.
It was definitely more than a coincidence.
There was more, his brows furrowed as though contemplating whether or not to keep going. “What is it, Micheal?” This wasn't the time to be holding things back.
“There's also been…” he seemed unsure but continued either way, “Like strange things have been happening lately,” his eyes shifted around us as though scanning the perimeter.
“Everything's…weird.”
